Subject: The Moderators Offer Thanks for the Roll Calls and Hopes

Whew!  How our field has grown!  In the past, a Roll Call would produce
at first 10 or 15 replies; then 25 or 30; and this year, up to 50 new or 
relocated participants.

But the most recent Roll Call, issued last week, has produced literally
*hundreds* of replies!  And the mix is increasingly heavy with people
actually working in the field.

To all of you who replied, please accept my thanks in advance.  I may
not be able to reply directly to all of you, but the Roll is an amazing
and historically invaluable document that will be of definite value to
those in the future who remark on our field.  You have made it possible.

There are some big changes going on at the HIT Lab and with me personally
that will affect the shape and substance of sci.virtual-worlds, in a
positive fashion.  Mark De Loura and I will let you know as we proceed.

Thanks from both Mark and me for a wonderful 18 months as your moderators,
and the best to all as the Winter Solstice approaches and the new year
beckons a richer time to come.
