                        Think 'N Do Group (*)
                                and
                            ACM SIGCHI

           at California State University, Northridge

Program:
        There will be two presentation. The first is a demonstration of
the NeXT computer, given by Brent Loschen, a systems engineer with NeXT
Inc. The second is a demonstration of the Focal Point 3-D Sound System
by Bo Gehring, President of Gehring Research Corporation, Torono.

NeXT:
        Among its many innovative capabilities, the NeXT computer
contains a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), making it ideal for speech
processing applications. Brent Loschen will give an overview of the NeXT
computer and demonstrate the use of the SPHINX speech recognition system
in a voice activated mail application.

Focal Point 3-D Sound System:
        The Focal Point 3-D Sound System processes sounds in real time
to make them come from anywhere around the listener on stereo headphones
or loudspeakers. Up to four separate sounds can be positioned or
animated with the mouse and simultaneously heard in 3-D. This technology
was developed by Bo Gehring during the early nineteen eighties to reduce
the clutter in airplane cockpits and is now incorporated in the USAF
super cockpit and several virtual environments ("Cyberspace")
applications. Gehring Research Corporation is actively developing 3-D
audio for a variety of aerospace and entertainment applications.
