Mod-A-Log Freeware Demo Version Programmed in 100% Pure Assembly Copyright 1992 by: Mark Wallaert Mod-A-Log: With the proliferation of Soundtracker/Noisetracker programs that have stormed into the ST market lately MOD files have rapidly become a hot file for collecting and trading. If you've never heard a MOD file, go find yourself a player and a couple of songs and see what you have been missing. The quality of sound from these on an ST (or better yet, STe) is definitely worth a listen. There are literally thousands of different songs out there covering just about every type of music you could want (and if they don't cover it, you can always make some yourself). However keeping track of your collection, not to mention trying to get a list made to show others, is no simple task. Well, until now that is. Mod-A-Log will take care of the worst parts of it for you and makes weeding out duplicates a breeze. Mod-A-Log will search for files with the extension .MOD. Each time it finds a file it will note the file name and size then open the file and read the song name stored within. This information will be stored to a list. It will do this for each MOD file found, one file per line. This is an easy way to catalog and update your collection of songs as well as making a list to trade with others. The three fields of information (file name, file size, song name) make finding duplicate files with different names much easier. A file called MOSHBIT.TXT should have been included. This is a sample output file generated by Mod-A-Log and includes a list of all the MOD files available on the Mosh Bit (though the file area grows almost daily). This will show you how output from the program will look. The Workings: Mod-A-Log has been made as straight forward and self explanatory as possible (who reads the docs anyway right?). After you have been presented with the title info, the next step is simply to use the file selector and point out where you want the program to look for Soundtracker/Noisetracker files. Change the path to where yours are and click OK. The program only recognizes files that have an .MOD extension, if you have any MOD.xxx files they will have to be renamed for the program to recognize them. You will see the information for each file being printed to screen as it finds them (what you see is what you get, not bad eh?). After all of the .MOD files in that directory have been cataloged you will be prompted if you want to search another directory, the default is yes. If so you will get the file selector again to choose the new path. When you are done cataloging your Soundtracker files (or if you've reached the demo limit/filled the buffer) you will be asked to specify the output file to save your list. You will be presented with the file selector again so you can choose where the file is placed and what you want to name your list. Mod-A-Log will check to see if a file with the name you entered already exists. If it doesn't find one the file will be created. If it does find a file with the same name you will be asked if you wish to append to the file (use this to update your list) or reset the file (note: this will destroy the old file and create a new one), the default is append. If you have a file that you don't want to alter or lose, cancel will exit the program so your file isn't destroyed. When you are completely finished Mod-A-Log will present you with a summary showing how many files it has cataloged this session and the total size of all of those files added together. Something is Wrong: If you have any trouble or find something wrong, please contact me either by e-mail or a letter and let me know whats wrong. I recommend trying different auto-folder/desk-accessory setups to see if theres a conflict with something. If you manage to track down an incompatibility I'd appreciate the information. I do plan to continue supporting and upgrading the program as well as working on a few more ideas I have . Disclaimer: While I've done my best to produce the smallest, fastest, and most stable code possible, I certainly don't claim to be the perfect programmer. If you decide to use this program, you do so at your own risk. This program has been extensively tested. But that was on my setup, not yours, and things can still slip past. The programmer cannot be held responsible for any error or loss that may have occurred through use of this program. Registration: The Demo version of Mod-A-Log is Freeware. It may be distributed at will providing the documentation and program are included together and that neither is altered in any way. The demo version has a limit of 20 files.
