Seems FTL wanted to "check it out" on a Mega before shipping. FTL rep said that the boxes are ready, the manuals are ready, EVERYTHING is ready. Should be IN store sometime this week! I've found one on each level with an appropriate lock (three or four so far). Having a lot of "fun" mapping level 10 (some might call it 11; I don't count the Hall of Champions) - - the "Turn Back" level. Incredibly slow service and I can't blame the ost office as I'm only a few hundred miles up the coast from them. Actually they didn't send me my disk back...mine was blue and I got a white one from them. I'm HOPING that FTL has corrected the bugs at the end of the game and that my new disk is a corrected version. Reasons for my hoping that my new disk is a new version: I bought my disk in december and all of the files on the new disk are dated 01-07-88. When I save the program the options menu has version 1.1 on it. I think my original had 1.0 on it...or is my memory faulty? Just had a friend of mine crash his disk too...that protection and slow turn- around time has got to go. Darlah: Why doesn't FTl mosey on in here? ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 26 Tue Jan 19, 1988 H.NICHOLS at 21:17 EST RED.STAR - Thats a good question - I would think there has to be a limit on the number of items that it can keep track of or graphically put on top of each other but I haven't found that limit. The screamers in that one room near the end of level 3 and the worms just before that do regenerate. Since there isn't any readily available food or water in the next two levels past 3 I have gone on extended hunting expeditions and I have gotton tons (and I do mean tons of food) in the chest, I must have stacked it 15-20 or even greater in the same spot and it still keeps track and still regenerates. I really saved up a bunch of food for safties sake - another nice feature of the scremaer regenerating room is you can have your people stand toe to toe with them (they never were really able to do alot of damage) and gain advancements in fighters capabilities. I know because I did an ATT and it said FTL JAN 15 as last access date a few categories back. I talked to FTL on the phone and they told me they like to READ what's going on but don't WRITE much. (The fellow called it "video grafitti" I believe - haha!!) They are here though! I wish someone would tell us what the difference between 1.0 and 1.1 is! And I must say, DungeonMaster is the PERFECT example of what's wrong with copy protection. The program has some SeRIOUS bugs at the end, and it's so heavily protected you cannot copy it with anything. SO you send the disk off for an update, and can't play for awhile. Therefor the honest user is punished. BOO! ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 31 Wed Jan 20, 1988 M.DEVLIN [Mark] at 18:33 PST Oh well...that's life...how does one "fluxacge"(???) that black/grey guy? Also, any tips on slaying the spagetti creatures? Nice touch those, wasn't i surprised when I hid behind a wooden door. Also, the way they mix up their spells is good too. Comment: I mapped a good part of the cross level in search of the skeleton key (which I found purely by accident after I'd given up). I can say it was by far the least fun I've had playing this game. You just can't get into that way. I'd reccomend every one try to do it without mapping - I've made it this far without. I don't know what the difference is between my 1.1 and my old 1.0. I'm hoping that they fixed the bugs but don't know for sure. I'm only on the level below the firestaff level so it'll be awhile before I find out if the endgame is buggy. FTL didn't answer my letter that I sent with the disk...too busy reading video grafitti, no doubt. Zilcho, nada, nothing with the disk...I wouldn't even know that I had 1.1 if I hadn't noticed it. I never had any problems saving and loading games like some people have had and since that was the first problem mentioned I suspect that if anything was fixed on version 1.1 it would be that. Just a guess though. I'm still steamed that it took them 11 days to replace my disk. Rick ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 37 Thu Jan 21, 1988 CAPT.COOK at 22:05 EST Mark - Naw. the killer puddles are blue. BTW, I've decided that the rock squids are earth elementals, the killer puddles are water elementals, the fire pit creatures are fire elementals. Now, has anyone seen an air elemental??? Oh, and BTW Mark (Devlin), the only place I've seen the water elementals is in 1 passage of the cross area. -CC ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 38 Thu Jan 21, 1988 HTCOLONNA at 22:20 EST Maybe ghosts are air elementals. And all we have to do is send our disks in and wait for the return!!! YEAH, FAT CHANCE!!!! As for the protection....forget it! I happen to know that the pirates circulated a file that cracks dungeon master about 3 weeks ago, but nobody would pirate it! That's right folks, the pirates refused to circulate the game. They all agreed (I guess) that FTL is doing exactly what all computer users want all companies to do: turn out super high quality software, at unbelievably low prices. I won't mention names, but some of the biggest software companies have a policy where they can take any game, now matter how bad, and if they spend enough money on full page color glossy ads, and what amounts to lying about the quality of the game, they can sell enough to make a living. FTL is the kind of company that all companies should use a model, and everyone I know is willing to support them. But, the protection is useless. The pirates were able to make their own backup copies, WE CAN'T !!! WE (The Honest Users) have to wait a long time for our upgrades, the pirates don't! The protection didn't stop the pirates from doing anything. Had they wanted to circulate it, they could have, no problem. But we can't copy it...... Ah well, it is a great game, so I guess we can forgive them.... John Satriano ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 40 Thu Jan 21, 1988 M.DEVLIN [Mark] at 22:13 PST Those "floating ropes" (as I call them, I guess you guys call them the spaghetti(sp) creatures or whatever) are hard... This door trick also works on Mummy's, Screamers. Another way to kill em is to let them follow you to the shortcut or shortcut back then go through and return, it may take several trys but kills em fast. If you really get stuck, you can just restart, and pick the same characters, then keep an eye on the floor, and if your light starts to go, remember the FUL spell is a magic torch. I don't think there is a way to use more keys than you need (I mean, I don't think there is a sequence you have to follow up there, I fooled around and restarted many times and always go through.) -CC ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 51 Sun Jan 24, 1988 J.SATRIANO at 01:49 EST Naturally, when I said the pirates wouldn't circulate it, I didn't mean ALL of them, but I have PD access on several boards I suspect of being pirate fronts, and I have seen messages from a lot of them saying they refused to pirate it. From what I understand, the VAST majority of them bought it, of course there are people who will never change.... a pity, but a fact of life. Anyway, my point is that the copy protection did not stop them. So, why bother to put it in? FTL probably spent a lot of money just on the routine, and really all it accomplishes is screwing the people that bought it. Now, we can't have a backup to play while waiting for the new version. Can anyone make sense out of this for me?? John Satriano ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 52 Sun Jan 24, 1988 M.DEVLIN [Mark] at 00:46 PST Why not just get the program that cracks and make a backup for yourself? That isn't illegal unless you give it out... ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 53 Sun Jan 24, 1988 K.BISHOP at 10:05 PST I haven't seen the program that will allow a backup to be made but I do know that there is a broken version going around now. Disgusting but true. J. Satriano: I agree that the protection only hurts the buyer (well, and maybe the casual pirate). It sounded like you thought there was an organized network of pirates who actually had some "honor" and wouldn't pirate a great game. I don't know too many people with STs but from my experience at work with PC and Mac people pirateing is as much a game of one-up-manship as it is of acquiring software. If one has a great, copy protected program and is able to copy it then that person has something that other people want and is in a position of power so to speak. I've met people over the years who have literally NEVER bought a piece of software. They'll wait until they can copy it or wait for a broken version. DM did last a month or so before being broken though, I guess it must be some kind of record. I consider their after 90 days (talking about FTL now) policy of charging $10 for replacing a damaged disk excessive. Michtron and most others charge $5. At $10 FTL is making a profit going to making a profit because of their copy protection. $5 and a faster turn around time would be much better. Rick ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 54 Sun Jan 24, 1988 RED.STAR at 13:16 EST Piracy.... Actually, I'm very impressed that FTL was able to make copy protection at all. So far, all the ST disks I have seen can be duplicated, protection and all, with software. I'm sure that the month that FTL's protection remained in tact gave them a few buyers more. When I had my Atari 8-bit, I used to be a massive pirate, amoung other illegal computer concepts... Anyway, just a comment here:] If the data on the disk can be read, it can be copied. If it can't be read, then can't be used in the first place. By far the best protection scheme I have ever seen is the idea of the "key" that goes into the joystick port. This way, the users can make backups. However, ANY protection can be broken. Such is life.... Of course, I am reformed now, and proudly own many pieces of software. Games like DM are worth the money, games like Airball on the other hand.. Good day. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 55 Sun Jan 24, 1988 CAPT.COOK at 15:54 EST Topic Police! Run everybody! What do I have to do to get past them. thankyou. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 78 Sun Jan 31, 1988 COREY [COREY.COLE] at 04:44 PST Has anyone else had a character (one of the front rank fighters, at close to full Health of 400-500 points) suddenly die in an encounter, without anyone else in the party being hurt? Any idea whether this is the result of some sort of spell or just a critical hit? It's pretty intimidating when it happens! It's happened about four times to me now, twice against Materializers (what FTL calls the "Astral Ropes"), and twice against Fire Elementals. The second time, I looked around carefully, and there were no other monsters in the vicinity except the Fire Elemental (unless, of course, if there *are* Air Elementals, and they're invisible). I wouldn't call the "Rock Squids" Earth Elementals. Maybe the monsters on the Firestaff level (although I think of them more as Stone Golems). I wouldn't call a Ghost an Air Elemental, either. But that's just my opinion as a long time D&D player. We (I, my wife Lori, and our friend Kennita, both of whom normally hate computer games) are getting close to the end. We had to abort our last expedition, as we'd lost the Firestaff in an area where we couldn't get back to it! We played on for awhile, and did find the Power Gem, though. What a wonderful game! FTL, in a conference on CI$, says they are going to try to come out with 4-6 new scenarios *a year*, using the same game system, but not necessarily in a D&D/fantasy vein. We'll see. Has anyone noticed characters' maximum Mana gradually dropping, perhaps as a result of saving the game? Several characters have lost 2-8 Mana points over the last few expeditions. Any ideas what could be doing it? ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 79 Sun Jan 31, 1988 COREY [COREY.COLE] at 06:18 PST On the "Astral Rope" (FTL calls them "Materializers") level, some of the buttons have *very* remote effects. You have to press a loose brick in one part of the level to open the room (small one in the center of a much larger one) with the key to one of the "colorful" locks. After you've defeated the Knight there, search his possessions for the next key you need. Then you need to push an obvious button with non-obvious effect. It opens a room way at the other end of the dungeon with another Knight and some items you will probably want/need. This was by far the deadliest level up to that point. We finally came up with strategies that would work against each of the monsters on the level, the Materializers being the most deadly. However, the next level makes this one seem like a cake-walk! Did you find the Darc armor? Not sure if it's needed, but I like the concept of having one character wearing Lyte, and the other in Darc (Hissssa, of course!) "Balance", you know! Green gem: You pushed a switch, which dropped the chest containing the gem down to the next level. Push it again to close the pit, and find a way to get the green gem back where the chest was originally (behind the grate). There are at least 2.5 ways of doing this. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 80 Sun Jan 31, 1988 CAPT.COOK at 12:50 EST Or don't push the switch at all, then the green gems never leaves! Argh! There are some very useful items there. My take on the next level down is that it is a death trap. If you haven't thoroughly explored the Firestaff level yet, now is the time to do it. Then I'd proceed to the bottom level (mind you, I've only tried this in a very odd way. I know at least four routes to the bottom level, and can't say whether any of the other three will get you killed). There is something you need down there, which will probably prove useful on the Fire Elemental/Demon level. Oops, just saw your "Golem" message. There are just four Ra keys that I know of (the fourth is on the Firestaff level). As to killing Golems, I took a tip from John Satriano -- fill your fighters full of Ku potions, with maybe a few Ros potions thrown in for good measure. Then hack the golems to bits. Also, they're slow, so you can use any techniques you've developed for fighting slow, non-spellcasting monsters. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 86 Tue Feb 02, 1988 DARLAH at 11:09 EST Looks like I have to buy this program. BTW, they are neither crabs nor spiders - not enough legs to be either. -CC ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 88 Tue Feb 02, 1988 HTCOLONNA at 21:08 EST I never really got the horn of fear to do too much interesting. I'm not sure what it is. To tell you the truth, I do think that alot of these things are having an effect, but no one knows exactly what the effect is. For instance, 1 necklace may decrease some monster's ability to hit first blow. Unfortunatley, there's really no way to know what's happening. The horn of fear may increase chances of a monster running before dying (some do run as you have noticed). The only real solution would be 1) alter the program to inform a user somehow of what each item does OR 2)have the user to conduct vast studies of what each item does. Very time consuming, and unlikely, considering that every user is rushing to finish the game. The bottom line is, however, (I could write an essay on this), even though you're not sure exactly what an objet does, it adds to the exciement and "mystery" to the game. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 89 Tue Feb 02, 1988 J.D.THOMAS at 22:12 EST Hmmm. Bill: The purple worm level was the most time-consuming for me (and probably most people); take heart! Get your wife hooked on the game so she'll play with you. Mine keeps track of spells, whether people are getting hurt, and contributes to strategy, while I do the keyboarding (I dodge monsters better). In the "I hate cowards", you're in the right place, but you need to make it through the curtains (there's another on the other side of that door). How can you get the door open from here? I did it the first time by getting the mouse in just the right position, moving and clicking.... but there's a more reasonable method you've used before -- still need to get your timing right, but there's more leeway. Reminds me of the time when I started "shading" my work hours more and more until I was on a 25-hour work week (programmers can sometimes get away with that, at least for a while), because I was spending every available moment either creating scenarios for D&D or playing in the CalTech Warlock D&D games. Now, I use 3 different save disks, so I just switched, and it worked with the second one I tried. I have no idea what caused it, but you may try formatting a couple of disks just in case. Note that the DM format is nothing special - ie, you don't have to format them in DM, in fact, I use Twister formatted DS disks (just cause that was what I had handy). Monsters seem to have a slightly harder time hitting you (they do a bit less damage). The spell doesn't appear to last very long, though it's hard to tell since there's no visual feedback from it. The big advantage is if you want to sneak past an area entirely without encountering monsters. Most can't see you, so won't attack, unless you attack first. Our front rank fighters typically carry 6-8 top-level healing potions each. That, a few fireballs, and discrete use of "freeze life" got us through the spiders. As for a hint book, FTL is definitely coming out with one -- it was written by Tracy Hickman, co-author of Dragonlance Chronicles, etc. -- a very good writer. I don't know whether it has maps though -- they don't seem like something that would normally be put in a hint book. I'm looking forward to finding out about Lyte and Darc, among other things. Ron: To get the first Vorpal Blade, you need to push a button that doesn't look like a button; looks like something that's never been important anywhere else. I got tired of trying to remember which word was which symbol. The file will be number 5967 when it clears sysop approval. I only listed the 25 spell that I knew and (mostly) tried out. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 135 Tue Feb 16, 1988 CAPT.COOK at 21:31 EST Steve, I'm sure you read the newsletter where they said they didn't use everything they had in this system, in Dungeon Master! I can't imagine what they have up their sleaves , but I'd be willing to pay for it sight unseen. FTL has made a convert of me. -CC ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 136 Wed Feb 17, 1988 RLMCDONALD at 01:00 EST FTL is comming out with a mini adventure in early march. It works as an expansion disk to the Dungeon Master disk. It will be available to registered owners of DM. No price as yet, call FTL for further details. Excuse the mess, my finger slipped. The hint book will be out in March, will be about 60 pages, but no maps I think Ron ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 137 Wed Feb 17, 1988 COREY [COREY.COLE] at 01:55 PST Hmm, not sure I like the idea of posting a graphics spell list. I have such a list for myself, but... it seems to me that needing to enter the spells with graphics characters, but learning them as words, constitutes a sort of "piracy protection". I get really angry when I see messages (very rare here, fortunately) from which it is obvious the sender does not have the manual, therefore has stolen the game. It's very satisfying to see the consternation of a pirate when they try to figure out how to cast a "Ful Bro Neta" spell without having the manual! ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 138 Wed Feb 17, 1988 J.CHINNOCK at 18:16 EST I agree with Corey, DM is one of the best games made for the ST. It upsets me to see people pirate it. As for a mini-adventure coming out in march, sounds great!!! Well, off to play Air Warrior. ------ John ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 139 Wed Feb 17, 1988 J.HARRELL at 23:57 PST HELLO EVERYONE. I HAVE FINALLY MADE IT AROUND TO THE 15TH LEVEL. IT LOCKS UP WHEN EVER ALL CHARACTERS RECIEVE DAMAGE AT THE SAME TIME. ON THE DOOR..,THERE ISN'T A DOOR THERE,I CHOPPED IT OPEN BECAUSE IT WAS LOCKING UP BEFORE. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 145 Tue Feb 23, 1988 TIM.BARR at 19:24 MST Corey, I never thought of that when I uploaded the file. But, some of the spells that are on my list were trial and error or from one of the earlier lists. And, the earlier avaiable lists were done in symbol order anyway. But this will all be moot when (or if) the DM help book is available, unless FTL will only sell it directly to registered onwers. Anyway, my spell reference has come in handy when some monster comes and beats on me, and I need to know a spell fast. Especially if the one I just tried doesn't work. Oh well, it is now time for me to sign off the system and try to defeat the 7th level (one below the Firestaff level). ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 146 Sat Feb 27, 1988 H.BATTLES1 at 02:33 EST Hello everyone. I've been reading the messages on Dungeon Master. It is an excellent game. I just finished a review on Comput about it. I've made it to level 10. So far I have had no problems wwith lock up. I still can't wait for the hint book. I talked to FTL today, and they said the hint book wouldn't give too much away. You still have to work for it. Has anyone made a map of the levels after #7? ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 147 Sun Feb 28, 1988 COREY [COREY.COLE] at 04:21 PST I have the entire dungeon mapped (with the exception of level 13, where I was generally a bit *ahem* too busy to think about mapping. Be prepared for some work on level 12 also (counting Hall of Champions as Level 1), incidentally. But the maps are all on paper, and I have no scanner. The lockups generally only occur in the "endgame", when you are fighting Lord Chaos and take certain sets of actions (for instance, *don't* try to close a door on his head!) I had the game lock up once in a freak situation on level 12, but was never able to duplicate it. Just make sure you save from time to time and you'll be fine. I'm looking forward to the hint book, even though I've finished the game, to fill in some of the plot line details (such as, just who were the knights of Lyte and Darc? You'll be encountering some of their belongings soon, don't worry, this "clue" doesn't affect game play at all.) I'm also looking forward to the mini-scenario (for registered owners only), which is also supposed to come out in March. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 148 Sun Feb 28, 1988 SANDY.W [RT SysOp] at 14:38 EST We have a complete set of Dungeon Master maps uploaded by M.STETTER. Ceck out file #6074 and #6075. Enjoy! ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 149 Sun Feb 28, 1988 J.LYONS-II at 21:40 EST SYSTEM ERROR 60!! SYSTEM ERROR 60!! Run for your lives!! The Bugs are here! (And you thought flying snakes were bad). I need some advice, preferably from someone from FTL. I sat down tonight ready for another marathon session of DM, but every time I load my saved game and begin play, the game locks up after about 60 seconds, and I get "SYSTEM ERROR 60" at the top left of the screen! Yikes! I first assumed it was a corrupted save file, so I trashed it (sigh) and renamed the .BAK file there to .DAT and reloaded. No luck! It resumed like it's supposed to, but locked up after 60 seconds (this is a different file this time). In case an FTL Implementor is reading this, here are some odd symptoms the game displays in the 60 seconds before the error message occurs: 1) All monsters are frozen. (Great, right?) 2) When a character takes a swing at these locked-up monsters, the weapon box goes half-tone (like normal) but never recovers. Also, the blow never connects (no whoosh or damage). 3) Character movement through the dungeon is unimpeded.(Quick, map!!) 4) I happen to be on level three (Hall of Chumps=0) in front of the short cut sign and keyhole. I ran to the coin slot, made a deposit, ran back to the keyhole, inserted the key, and nothing happens. I assume from my perusal of the hint stuff here and there thet some sort of teleporter should appear, but no. Also, in case you may wonder, I have kept the write-protect tab ON (I can see through it, yup). It came that way and has stayed that way. One other thing you may or may not think, there has been NO HANKY-PANKY with the game disk or save disk files, I'm not into unauthorised copies. I almost forgot: I posess Version 1.0. Can you help me?? I'm going through withdrawl already! Yikes!! J.LYONS II ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 150 Sun Feb 28, 1988 THUD.ROOTER at 21:20 PST What happened to room #2? I think this might have been fixed in version 1.1, but I think you have to send them your master disk to get it, and wait a week or so. Not sure you'll be able to withstand the DT's doing that! Anyway, you might give FTL a call; I think their number is on the newsletter that came with D.M. ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 152 Mon Feb 29, 1988 J.LYONS-II at 18:43 EST COREY- Thanks, I'll give them a call. I think the problem is in the master disk now, because I restarted from a cold boot and hit ENTER as opposed to RESUME and after entering the Hall of Champions the game locked up, System Error 60, nuts. Note that I did not use a save-game this time. I did this after sending message #149, or I would have mentioned it there. Thanks again. (You've got to tell someone who understands.) I certainly hope that others who have played this game will recommend this game to everyone, even the non- gamers. I have been playing video and computer games from the very beginning and I have never spent as much time on a game ever. If I had been playing this game in an arcade I would have spent the equivalent of my whole computer system just to complete it. I'm sure I have spent over 100 hours (fascinated)to complete the whole thing. All this for just $30.00. That works out to 30 cents per hour. Compare that to a Movie!!! It took five days from send to recieve, I guess that's pretty good. Of course, the game is the same in general, but there are some improvements that I have seen questions about in this RT. The best improvement by far is the "sleep" function; instead of taking forever for your people to re-energize, now it only takes about 10 seconds, mabye 15 for some badly wounded/winded characters. A marked improvement! Also, I assume the endgame bugs are squashed. I am now at the "screamer regeneration room" and am pumping up my people for the rest of the dungeon. Just for fun, try and have one of your Adept level Ninjas bash the screamers to death...with screamer slices!! It's like poetic justice or something, and a real hoot. Forget the 'purple worm dance'. It's too hard-I just fireball th' suckers . I haven't laid a blade on one yet. Now if I can just get past those opening/closing pits on the next level... Happy Dungeoning! My question for a hint: I'm at the gate next to the fountain across from the "...one wish" etching in the wall. How do I get the gate open and how do I get the wish? ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 210 Sat Apr 09, 1988 M.GIAMBRUNO at 15:55 PDT Hail and well met, adventurer. What does one normally put in a fountain in hopes of receiving a wish? ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 211 Sat Apr 09, 1988 M.GIAMBRUNO at 16:00 PDT I have seen some references to the Eye of Time on this board, which is supposed to be located in the Arena, but I've had no luck finding it. Is this something that was only in v1.0? I have v1.1. What is the consequence of not putting the green gem back? I left it in the chest on the floor where it fell- was I supposed to return it to the spot behind the steel grate door? Finally, speaking of grates, is there a way to open the grates in the floor? Off to level 9... ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 212 Sun Apr 10, 1988 NCHEBERTJR at 08:28 EDT I HAVE PLAYED ON BOTH VERSION 1.0 AND 1.2. THERE ARE A FEW DIFFERENCE IBN THE GAME AND THE EYE OF TIME IS ONE OF THEM. IN 1.0 YOU WHERE ABLE TO GET TWO OF THEM ONE IN THE ARENA AND THE OTHER IN THE DRAGON AREA. IN 1.2 IT IS ONLY IN THE DRAGON AREA. SO MAYBE THEY DID THE SAME THING IN 1.1 . I DID NOT FIND AWAY TO OPEN GRATES THEY ARE JUST FOR LOOKS AS FAR AS I CAN SEE. THE GREEN GEM WHEN PUT BACK JUST OPEN THE DOOR BEHIND YOU AND THERE IS A SWITCH FOR THAT LATER NORM ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 213 Sun Apr 10, 1988 W.HALANS [Bill] at 10:36 CDT I may be way out of line here but I hope not. I (we) (first off this is not from Bill Halans it is from his wife Beverly Law) and I am the one playing DM. He doesn't like RPG and I love them and never anyone to talk to about them. Then someone told me about GEnie. Yea for GEnie. Now for some hel p I hope. I am on the 3rd level in the Hall of Time is of the Essence and I cannot get around the pit close to the blue gem. I've tried about every thing including jumping and could use some help from the "old and wise ones" ALSO HOW do it get into cat 21 top 2 I believe it is? I don't have my manual yet. Thanks Bev Law ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 215 Sun Apr 10, 1988 M.GIAMBRUNO at 10:38 PDT Beverly- I can't help you out on the capture, as each terminal program is different. However, the first batch of messages was arc'ed and put in the games area of the ST Roundtable libraries. As to your question in Time is of the Essence, I guess you must be talking about the end of the hall with the gem set in the wall and a pit to your left. If so, manipulate the gem switch and turn your party to the left immediately. you will see a transporter mist appear briefly. Since you can't reach it (because of the pit), how else might you get something through it??? Good luck! ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 216 Thu Apr 14, 1988 B.BAIRD at 01:12 CDT PLEASE give me access to #21-the dust has died down a bit but I have no idea as to hoe to get past 'When is a rock not a rock' . Now on to the reason for this letter. The Difference in the upgraded Version are slight but they do have a bearing in the game as you go through. 1) At the begining of the game there are more small stone that you can pick up and use to throw at the monsters until better equipped. 2) When you get down to Level 11 (the knight level) in one area you will see a sign that says IF you run you will be chased down and kill (something like that) In ver 1.0 you had 2 doors and when you entered into the doors it opened a secret wall and there where 2 more spiders waiting for you. Well in the ver1.2 they put a door there and it makes it much easier. Although they did make it a little tougher in another where instead of having to kill one set of 2 knights you have to kill 2 sets of them without the assistance of doors. That part I like alot. 3) they have taken the RING OF TIME from the level 7(ghosts open arena area) 4) In the RA LEVEL they have removed the Lock Picks..put that was no lost they did nothing anyway. Well that's all I remember if anyone else has played both Version each once and can remember anything feel free to add to my list Later Norm ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 219 Sat Apr 16, 1988 W.VAUGHN at 11:35 PDT I need HELP! The Third level is the "Meet your Doom", or "Purple Worm" level... The Fourth level is the "Treasure Stores" level, and the Fifth level is the "Riddle Room" level... Well its C.EISENSCHMI Thanx ---------- Category 9, Topic 74 Message 247 Wed May 18, 1988 R.RETELLE [BobR] at 23:48 EDT Ike, when you successfully Fluxcage and Fuse Lord Chaos, you'll know it.. what usually happens is that he'll escape from the cage before you can use the FLUX option of the FireStaff... either that, or you didn't get him on all sides... (If you hear the "Transporter sound", like when you step into a "Blue Mist", it means Lord Chaos has teleported himself out of your reach... and you have to try again...) The problems in Ver. 1.0 of Dungeon Master would make the game just lock up, and freeze... other than that, I haven't heard of any problems... (I'd tell you how I did it, but that would probably be more suitable for Category 21...) BobR ----------
