November 3, 1988 The Hollywood Font from Softworks West is an Art Deco typestyle created for use with any program that supports GDOS fonts. It makes an excellent addition to the Swiss, Dutch, and Typewriter styles supplied with most GDOS programs. Create documents with distinctive titles, banners, and captions using this attractive font. The Hollywood Font comes in 7, 10, 12, 18, and 24 point sizes. Some GDOS fonts only use the 94 alphanumeric characters directly available from the keyboard. The Hollywood Font has 180 characters defined using most of the extended character set including all of the European character set, special symbols (copyright, trademark, mathematical, etc.), and others. To make the Hollywood Font compatible with as many programs as possible we've also defined special symbols such as the carriage return used by Word Up from Neocept, Inc. The Hollywood Font will work with these programs: * Easy Draw - Migraph, Inc. * Publisher ST - Timeworks, Inc. * Fleet Street Publisher 1.1 - Mirrorsoft * Word Up - Neocept, Inc. * Microsoft Write - Microsoft/Atari Corp. * Degas Elite - Batteries Included/Electronic Arts * Paint Pro - Abacus AND ANY OTHER PROGRAM THAT USES GDOS FONTS! The Hollywood Font can be used on monochrome and color (RGB) monitors. You can use any Epson or Epson compatible 9 pin printer with the fonts (i.e. Panasonic, Citizen, Star, Gemini, etc.). You can also use the Hollywood Font with any laser printer capable of 300 dot per inch output in a graphics or text mode (Atari SLM804, Hewlett-Packard Deskjet, Hewlett-Packard Laserjet or Laserjet II, HP compatible laser printers such as Microline 1000, etc.). Printer fonts for 24 pin and 150 dpi laser printers are currently under development and should be available soon. Contact us for info on release dates. The Hollywood Font retails for $19.95. Directions for installing GDOS fonts are included along with information on troubleshooting suggestions on making GDOS more user friendly. [SPACE] We realize this limits use but at least you will get a taste of what we have to offer. To Install The Font... 1) Place the correct screen and printer fonts in your font folder (usually named GEMSYS or GDOS.SYS). 2) Load the ASSIGN.SYS file from the working copy of your GDOS program into a wordprocessor or text editor. 3) Type in the appropriate data as listed below. Be sure you type the information in exactly as listed. Additional spaces, carriage returns, or symbols added to your ASSIGN.SYS file may keep the fonts from loading correctly. a) COLOR MONITOR USERS (Low resolution - paint programs only): Look for a line of text which reads, "02p screen.sys" Directly underneath this line of text type, "SWHW18LS.FNT" (leave the parentheses out). This will allow paint program users to run a gigantic Hollywood Font for titles and signs. b) COLOR MONITOR USERS (Medium resolution): Look for a line of text which reads, "03p screen.sys" Directly underneath this line of text type, "SWHW18CG.FNT" (leave the parentheses out). c) MONOCHROME MONITOR USERS: Look for a line of text which reads, "04p screen.sys" Directly underneath this line of text type, "SWHW18.FNT" (leave the parentheses out). d) EPSON/EPSON COMPATIBLE 9 PIN PRINTER USERS: Look for a two digit number followed by the name of a printer. EXAMPLES: 21 printer.sys (Timeworks Publisher only) 21 FX80.SYS (All others have printer name) Depending on the manufacturer this could be any two digit number or printer name but the samples given above are commonly used. Directly beneath this line of text type, "SWHW18EP.FNT" (leave the parentheses out). e) LASER PRINTER USERS: Look for a two digit number followed by the name of a printer. EXAMPLES: 21 printer.sys (Timeworks Publisher only) 25 DESKJET.SYS (All others specify name) 27 SLM804.SYS ( " " " ") Depending on the manufacturer this could be any two digit number but the above samples are common ones. Directly beneath this line of text type, "SWHW18LS.FNT" (leave the parentheses out). 4. Your completed ASSIGN.SYS file should look similar to this (I've left the names of other fonts out put in the name of the font for each resolution). PATH= A:\GEMSYS\ 00p screen.sys ; Timeworks Publisher doesn't use this line. ; --START OF SCREEN FONTS-- 01p screen.sys 02p screen.sys SHHW18LS.FNT 03p screen.sys SWHW18CG.FNT 04p screen.sys SWHW18.FNT ; --END OF SCREEN FONTS-- 21 FX80.SYS ; Timeworks Publisher this line is 21 printer.sys SWHW18EP.FNT 31 META.SYS [PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you have not placed the printer font name below 31 META.SYS as it will not print. The printer font must be typed in below the name of your printer.] 5. Save the ASSIGN.SYS file on the root directory of your boot disk in ASCII format (some wordprocessors use WP Mode - turn it off before saving). 6. Reboot your system and the fonts should load for normal use. 7. Enjoy the sample!
