Some time ago somebody asked for re-labeling of disks after format.
Here is a useful utility to do this (works on floppies and harddisks).
It may also be used to get the most important information about
this disk. Since I have no access to the ...binaries... groups, and
I suppose others on Bitnet don't have as well, I post this to the
digest. BTW: What is the use to have extra ...binaries... and
...sources... lists, if they are available only to a restricted group
of users? There are other sites of this type, e.g. UH-INFO or
CANADA01 on "my" side of the net (BITNET/EARN). Just there (UH-INFO)
I have posted a longer file/disk-listing program "INSPEC".
This is about 22K, so I hesitate to send it here. If you cannot access
UH-INFO, tell me where to send it to reach more people. Even better:
Tell me of a site that can be accessed from all networks (is this really
impossible?). -- For now here is the program VOL:

VOL.TTP allows display / deletion / change / creation of volume label
(plus display of some disk info).
Call from shell:

VOL <drive> <name>

drive a = A:, b = B:, c = C: etc. (default a, if no arguments given)

name new volume label; the old one is deleted, if existing.
if you only want to delete the label, use a minus (-) as
name. If <name> is omitted, only label + info is displayed.

warnings: when a label is deleted, GEMDOS buffers are
reinitialized for the corresponding drive; as a consequence
any open files are lost. So DON'T USE IT within a program
having still files on this drive open!

examples: VOL = display info for floppy A:
VOL F = display info for disk F:
VOL b - = display info and delete label for floppy B:
          VOL c HD.C = display info for drive C:, label it 'HD.C'

You may copy the program and use it, but I take no liability
for any result, and you must not make profit from it without my
written consent.

Any comments to WALDI at DHDIHEP1.BITNET or F15WAL at DHHDESY3.BITNET.
