System Prerequisites

• Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000 (a.k.a NT 5.0)
• WWIV 4.30.
• 16 MB RAM (32 MB recommended).
• 2 MB Hard Disk space.
• Mouse or compatable pointing device.
• 16 color VGA monitor (or compatable display device) 256 color's recommended.

Installation

• Decompress the archive file containing WNodeStatus into a directory on your hard drive. (WNodeStatus can be installed into your WWIV home directory, however this is not required)
• WNodeStatus is now ready to be launched from either a command prompt or via the Windows Explorer.
• You may optionally put a Windows Shortcut to WNodeStatus into your startup folder in Windows.
• MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL are required. These are installed with most Microsoft programs (such as IE4, IE5, NT Service Pack 4, etc.)

Using WNodeStatus

General Use

General use of WNodeStatus is fairly straightforward.

1. You launch the application
2. If you do not yet have the Registry Key configured for WWIV 4.30, WNodeStatus will prompt you for the directory containing WWIV (i.e. C:\WWIV)
3. WNodeStatus will minimize to a SysTray Icon located next to the clock in your Windows TaskBar.
4. WNodeStatus will refresh the status of each of the Nodes configured in WWIV every 10 seconds.
5. You may optionally configure WWIVNodeStatus to play a sound file (WAV) when a user logs on, logs off, or a WWIVnet compatable network transfer occurs.

De-installation

• Remove WNodeStatus.exe and Readme.html from the directory where you decompressed it.

Source Code Availability

The source code to WNodeStatus is generally not available (due to the fact that it is not commented/documented/organized enough) for me to release it to the general public with my name on it. If you have needs where you feel the source code to this product would be beneficial, contact me at one of the methods in the Feedback section of this documentation and I will make arrangements with you. There are no guarantees about the arrangements, however more than likely they would include something along the lines of the following:

• Don't laugh at it.
• Don't post it on the Internet.
• Don't laugh at it.

WNodeStatus is written with the following tools:

• WWIV BBS Software 4.30
• Diet Pepsi

License and Registration

WNodeStatus is a Freeware product for use with WWIV Bulletin Board Systems v4.30. You are free to use this product. If you like this product, and wish to show support for it, then just send me an e-mail message (from one of the addresses listed in the Feedback section of this documentation.

It is rather unfortunate that in our society authors even have to include such as this, but there are those out in the world who require us to include such stupid precautions in everything we do.

WNodeStatus is provided as-is, without any warranty, either expressed or implied. Just like a large majority of freeware software released to the general public, WNodeStatus is guaranteed ONLY to use up valuable disk space.

In no event shall the author (that's me) be liable to you or anyone else for any damages, including (but not limited to) any lost profits, lost savings, or any other incidental or consequential damages arising out of the use (or inability to use) this program.

For those of you who would like a more simplistic version of what was presented in the previous 2 paragraphs, here's the reasonable down to earth version:

This program works on my system, and the systems of my Beta testers. If it doesn't work for you, c'est la vie; I'm out of the picture. As Wynn Wagner III put it, "Use it at your own risk, but if it breaks, *YOU* have the pieces."
