The following is a rough draft of some new docs I'm
putting together for NetSEX. I would appreciate some
constructive criticism about the following document....
----------------------------------------------------------------

                                   *** NetSEX ***

          1. How to install NetSEX
1.1 Setting up your Fidonet mailer

The first step in becoming a fidonet gateway is to set
up a fidonet node. You will need the following software to
               do this:

A front end mailer. (BinkleyTerm, Front Door or D'Bridge)
                  A mail processor. (QMail)
A nodelist processor. (XlatList or ParseList)
A fossil driver. (OPUSCOMM or X00)
A fidonet message reader. (MsgEd or MegaMail)

Note that items in parenthesis are a few examples of
packages that are currently available. Some software may
require a special setup beyond what I have listed above.
All of the software listed above comes with complete
documentation on it's use. Print out all the documentation
and bind it together, read it twice, and keep it for future
               reference.

The front end mailer handles the actual transfer of
fidonet messages, scheduling of BBS events, accepting
fidonet calls, and making fidonet calls.

The mail processor handles the packing, unpacking, and
routing of fidonet mail. The mail processor must create
messages in the *.MSG format described in the Fidonet
               technical document FTS-0001.

The nodelist processor handles the processing of the
fidonet Nodelist which comes out weekly.

The fossil driver is a special serial software package
that most front end mailers need to handle the serial I/O on
               a wide variety of hardware.

The fidonet message reader is not absolutely necessary,
but it is the best tool for determining where problems are
occurring if you are unlucky enough to have problems.

It is also recommended that you read the document
POLICY4.TXT which describes fidonet policies (including how
to get a fidonet address). This document should be
available on your fido RC's system. If you don't know
who your local fidonet RC is, try asking the Sysop of one of
the Fidonet BBS's in your area. RC stands for Region
               Coordinator.

One more thing you will probably need is a person who
                                        -<1>-

has set up a fidonet system before. Fidonet is ** MUCH **
harder to set up than WWIV. Expect to spend more than six
hours putting together your basic setup if you try setting
things up yourself. Having the help of an experienced
person could cut this time in half.

1.2 Acquiring a NetSEX node number

To operate as a full gateway you will need to acquire a
special node number that will be used to identify your
gateway in the WWIV nodelist. Once your fidonet address has
appeared in the fidonet nodelist send mail to 1@5317
requesting a NetSEX node number. Be sure to include your
WWIV node number, your Fidonet node number, and your USENET
address (if you have one). Requests will only be accepted
from Sysops (1@...). At the same time you send in your
request for a NetSEX node it would be a good Idea to also
send mail to your AC and GC notifying them that you plan to
               become a Fidonet gateway.

          2. Once you have your NetSEX node number

Once your NetSEX node number has appeared in the WWIV
node list you are ready to set up the gateway software.
Place the NETS105.EXE file in your WWIV directory and edit
the sample FIDO.NET file to suit your needs and place it in
your data directory. See the documentation in the file
called FIDO_NET.txt for information on how to configure your
FIDO.NET file to suit your needs.

2.1 How to gateway a fidonet echo (sub).

The first thing you need to do to receive a fidonet
Echo on your WWIV node is to subscribe to the echo from your
fidonet Hub. Once the echo is being sent to your system you
need to configure your FIDO.NET file to handle the new echo.
You should add a new line in your FIDO.NET file similar to:

               SUB: 627 5317 C:\BBS\FIDONET\AREAS\NEWECHO NEW.ECHO Y

This line will cause NetSEX to convert fidonet messages
found in the directory C:\BBS\FIDONET\AREAS\NEWECHO to WWIV
messages in sub type 627. The converted messages will be
sent to system 5317 (which will be the host for this new
sub). The 'Y' at the end of the line means that messages
posted on sub 627 from a WWIV node other than your NetSEX
node will be converted into fidonet messages. If you do not
want messages posted on WWIVnet to be sent out over fidonet
set this last parameter to 'N'.

Once you have your FIDO.NET file properly configured
you need to set up the configuration for the WWIV host of
the sub. NetSEX nodes (600 - 700 range) cannot host subs,
so the host system should create a N627.NET file in their
data directory that contains the following information:

                    600

This setup will work if node 600 is your NETSEX node.
If there are any WWIV subscribers to this sub they should
also be listed in the N627.NET file. As such:

                  600
                  5311
                  5315

This would mean that the Host node, node 5311, and node
5315 will be subscribing to this sub. Subscribing nodes
should have the hosts address (not the netsex node's
address) listed in their corresponding NN627.NET file.

The key thing to remember in Gating a FIDONET echo is
that the NetSEX node will appear to be a subscriber to the
WWIV sub from the standpoint of the rest of WWIVnet. The
usual procedure is to have your Local WWIVnet node host the
Gated subs, but it is possible to assign another host.
