FileNet instruction by Topac. I don't promise anything with these, but I
think this should be a quick easy way to get up and running. Included with
this archive is FILENET.FAQ. If what I say doesn't work, try it.

To set up FileNet:

Set up FileNet as a network in INIT.

Rename NETWORK.EXE to NETWORK0.EXE, then unzip WWIV.ZIP into your BBS root
directory. Of these files you may need to edit: net.ini and net.cfg.

Back up NET.INI and NET.CFG if you already have them set up.

Unzip FNET.ZIP and NET.ZIP into your FileNet directory (the one from INIT).
Out of this batch you should only have to edit CALLOUT.NET, just like any
other network, CONNECT.99, and for your newsgroups edit NEWS.RC.

Using FileNet

You need to change CONNECT.99 in the FileNet directory. Replace node 141
with your own node number.

In NET.INI you may need to change the things noted. They should be fairly
obvious. Look at the documentation for your internet server to find these
settings. You'll probably want to delete my comments too.

In NET.CFG you'll want to look at changing PORT, DIAL, MODEM INIT
(I recommend looking at the string your internet program uses. This can be
intolerant of extra feedback from the modem.), SCRIPT1 & SCRIPT2.
If you can't figure it out, try running LOAD.BAT.

To get newsgroups and internet e-mail:

Make sure the ALLMAIL in your NET.INI is set to Y.

You need a login batch file. In it put the following command, modified
as indicated.

  EXP S32767.NET C:\WWIV\FILENET\ 301 quixotic owt.com FILENET

  | | | | | | |
  | | | | | | |_____ Network Name.
  | | | | | |_____________ Domain Name.
  | | | | |_________________ Your ISP Username.
  | | | |______________ Your FILEnet Node Number.
  | | |_________________________ Path to your FILEnet directory.
  | |______________________________ Packet name for Outgoing Mail / News.
  |______________________________ Command to run Export module ( EXP.EXE ).

To subscribe to a news group, go to //BE and make a sub for it. Set
yourself up as the host. The subtype must be numberic.

Go to your FileNet directory.

In NEWS.RC you subscribe to news groups by listing them here:
alt.bbs.wwiv 1849 10000
rec.arts.sf.starwars.info 0 10002

Where the first column is the name, the second is the last post your system
has read, and the third is the subtype you assigned it in //BE. If you
want a list of news groups put "newsrc" in the first line of this file.

You need to add 32767 to your N*.NET file. Go to your FileNet directory.
Find the file created by //BE, in my example for alt.bbs.wwiv, the name
would be N10000.NET. Then add 32767 to the file, and save it.

Lastly, if it isn't in there already, add 32767 as a node in your
CALLOUT.NET.

Your users address will be yourISPusername@yoursite.yourdomain (handle) or
sysopusername@yoursite.yourdomain (realname).
