         Running FrontDoor with Windows 3.1

There should be no problems running FrontDoor with the
official release version of Windows 3.1.

FrontDoor runs well with the normal COMM.DRV coming with
Win 3.1. To get full throughput in a multitasking situation
you have to use a 16550 UART on your serial card. Now go
to the [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI file and install:

        [386Enh]
        COM2FIFO=True

If you are running on COM2.

You only have to load your FOSSIL-driver in the task you
open your FrontDoor batch. Be care when installing your
FOSSIL-driver. Portredirection DOES NOT work with Windows.

        Example:

        You can't say: X00 0=COM2 B,0,38400....
You have to install: X00 B,1,38400...

One word for users of 4DOS:

You have to include a SET COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM to your BBS-batch.
Otherwise Windows will detect an error if you want to shell from
the FD-Mailer. Please see the example FD.PIF in this archive.

If you don't run 4DOS you can tell Windows not to use any XMS-
        memory.

         Virtual Memory

A great thing in Windows 386 enhanced mode is the support of virtual
memory on a harddisk. Its great for normal applications, but not for
running a BBS. You have no control in what way Windows accesses this
memory. So if you have about 5 Megs of virtual memory, Windows
may swap this RAM to the harddisk during a filetransfer. The result
will be a lot of CRC errors in the transfer.

Do not run any virtual memory when you want to run a non windows appli-
cation like FrontDoor. Buy more RAM ;-)

Go to: CONTROL -> 386 -> Virtual Mem , and click on 'None' for the
        virtual memory.
