Product Summary:
----------------
MazeDnd is a most Unique DnD/RPG game for WINServer BBSs! This game has a strong esoteric
bent with lots of action, adventure, extras, interaction, romance and a FULL screen Maze Grid
for Dungeon Exploration! The game is designed with the utmost flexibility where you can change
MANY of the options, screens, menus, characters, and even the name of the game to suit YOUR
needs! It has all the excitement and competition of ANY RPG or DnD game available today with
monsters to defeat, items to collect, an Inn, a health spa, a Psychic Skills Strengthener,
marriages, gangs, good vs. evil, and surprises and secret features for both the player and
the SYSOP! The SysOp sets the goal of the game, all screens are redesign able, along with all
items and monsters. Game includes two main groups (Good vs. Evil), over 26 Masters of Esoteric
and Historical fame, a 5,000 room dungeon, 170 monsters, 256 items, Message bases,
private and public, fist fights, weapon fights, Number Guessing game, lottery, full SysOp menus,
top 20, automatic high score saves, and many more features...

Setup:
------
1. Unzip the program file into your WC5 folder and will automatically create folders for MazeDnD as
well as a subfolder for Displays and for Dungeons. It is VERY important that you understand that
by default, it will create a MAZEDND folder with TWO subfolders: DISPLAYS and DUNGEONS.
If you would like to copy the folder to a different location, make sure to copy the two
subfolders as well. You can rename the folder MazeDnD to anything you like just make sure
to provide the name and location in the parameter in wcMenu and in ANY door menu software like
      GameMenu4U (A Product by PC PURSUITS http://www.pcpursu).
Important: Use an unzip program that supports long file names
      and directory paths.
2. Copy the 3 WCX files into your Wildcat folder, e.g., c:\wc5.
3. Add a WcMenu menu option for "MazeDnD". Important,
Please make sure to specify the folder from step 1 in the parameter by default it creates
      MazeDnd under your WC5 folder.
NOTE: If you use GameMenu or some other menuing add on, make sure to
include the folder name in the appropriate parameter field as well.
4. Now you can enter the game and the rest of the folders will be created along
with the required files. If you want to customize the game, see the Custom Game
part of this documentation. At this point, you should set a goal of the game,
but it is optional. Read GOALS to see how this part of the game works.

The game is ready to play at this point but there are MANY additional options you can set,
define, and customize! I recommend playing it first in default mode before tweaking the Dungeons,
monsters, items, classifications, Masters and such... The only exceptions are that you might
want to edit the WHOS.DAT, CHAT.DAT, and SYSOP.DAT as described under "Optional Setup".

Optional Setup:
---------------
The MazDnD.wcx can be renamed to any name you would prefer as long as you
keep the .wcx extension and make sure to point WcMenu to it, e.g., DnD.wcx
BUT since I have a GAMENAME.DAT file which allows you to change the name
that gets displayed in your Who's Online and in your Activity Log, then
renaming this file is probably a moot point.

All files are stored in the game folder where you installed "MazeDnd"
and in various sub-folders as defined.

The following files can be modified/created to override certain defaults (please note,
do NOT change the names or locations of the files, only the contents):

1. The first is called SYSOP.DAT. This file as generated contains the single
word "SYSOP". This file is used to designate what security levels have access to the
Sysop commands of this program (some people like to allow their Co-Sysops to have
access to these powerful and useful commands). You can manually add names or security
levels to this file with any text editor. It is NOT case sensitive, but make sure to
leave in the entry for SYSOP so that you still have access these features>

2.	The second, CHAT.DAT, is NOT generated but can be created with ANY text editor.
The first line should contain the name of a third party wccode chat program like wcTele.
The second line contains the parameter for the third party chat program (if needed).
This file is optional, and if not provided then the game uses the default chat.

3. The third file, WHOS.DAT, is NOT generated but can be created with ANY text editor.
The first line should contain the name of a third party wccode WHO program like SeekingU.
The second line contains the parameter for the third party WHO program (if needed).
This file is optional, and if not provided then the game uses the default WHO.

4.	The fourth file is the Noadult.dat which is not generated. There are a few spots in
this game where some adult activities take place (things of a sexual nature). They occur
mostly in the Health Spa. If you wish to disable these more adult oriented textual scenes
then create a file called Noadult.dat in the MazeDnD folder (the game folder under the
WC5 folder).

See the Customizations Section below for more options!

How to register and the benefits of registration:
-------------------------------------------------
There 5 second delay upon entering the game which will be removed, your BBS name will be displayed
indicating that it is registered, and you will help support the shareware concept and the future
development of feature rich products by PC Pursuits! In addition, certain powerful Sysop commands
and features are disabled in the unregistered version. Also, the game won't go beyond level 4 and it
can't be won until registered!

When you purchase a registration key, simply create a file called REG.# under your MazeDnD folder
using ANY text editor and put the registration key on the first line of the file. Or You can enter
the key using the "Z" option on the Sysop Menu.

The cost is $25 by check or money order by mail! Email at bbssysop@pacbell.net for package deals.

All future upgrades are FREE! We also working on offering a support message base, support forums accessible from the web, and a support mailing list which can be joined from the website:

Dungeon Information and Optional Configuration:
------------------------------------------------
There are 100 dungeon rooms in each level of the game. The game is shipped with 100 levels,
so that means there are 10,000 dungeon rooms in the game. Not all rooms are accessible by users,
while some contain monsters, gold, items, trap doors and exits. You, the SysOp can modify these
dungeons to your hearts content, adding or removing gold, items, monsters or even exits. Trap
doors can be added to all levels except the first level. If a trap door exists in the first
level, it is ignored.

Dungeons also give the user a place to sleep. This is safer than sleeping in town. If sleeping
in the dungeon, they can only get in a fight if someone stumbles across them and wants to fight.
The users hidden in the dungeon information is stored in a file called #.##.dat under the
DUNGEONS\USERS folder. Whereas the # means the level number and the ## means the room number.

If you encounter a monster while roaming through the dungeons, you will have to kill it before
you can proceed further in the dungeon, unless there is a way around the monster. If you fight
the monster and get defeated, you are dragged back to the entrance to the level to recoup. If
you find gold or items, you automatically pick them up.

In designing the dungeons, or modifying them, press the hotkey of $ and you will be asked for
a dungeon level to edit or create. If you pick a non existence level, a blank dungeon will be
created. You then move around with the arrow keys drawing the maze. You can press G, I, D or X
at anytime to place Gold, Items, Trap Doors or an exit.

You can also press the R key to refresh the display while editing the dungeons. This will
display all the items, gold, exits, etc.

Dungeon Rules:

1. You can have more than one exit for each level.
2. You can have only one monster per room.
3. You can have only one item per room.
4. Item numbers are from 1-256.
5. Monster numbers are from 1-256.
6. As a rule, you should put the stronger monsters on the higher levels.
7. Items, monsters and gold added AFTER a user has already explored a level, can be found if
the user goes back to that area.

There is NO limitation on the number of levels, only disk space. Make sure each level has an
exit, especially if you use the RANDOMIZE dungeons part of the program.

If you modify a dungeon by changing the layout, you MUST delete the players maps to that
dungeons. In other words, if you change DUNGEON 5 so that there are new ways to go, and players
have already explored this dungeon, you should delete all the DUNGEON_5.DAT's under the user's
DUNGEON folders. You should not modify the layout of dungeons when a game is in progress. You
can add new levels at anytime.

Monsters Information and Advanced Setup:
----------------------------------------
The monsters play a very important part of the game, in fact, they can be the goal of the game
if desired. There are 170 monsters, and they are completely configurable by the SysOp. The
monsters each have a name, hit points, experience and gold.

NOTE: Due to a weird way that strings are handled, monsters 11 and 13 are not available to put
in the dungeon. If you try to put in one of these monsters, the next highest number will be used
instead.

The name is what the user sees when they encounter the monster.

The hit points is the base on what the monsters actual hit points will be in battle.
The dungeon level is added into this number and it is also randomized to simulate stronger
monsters of each breed.

The gold is the amount of gold the monster killer gets if they kill the monster.

And of course, the experience points are how many experience points the user gets for killing
the monster. It is also used in how much they lose if getting defeated by the monster.

Modifying the monsters is easy, and there are actually several ways to do this. Below is listed
the numerous ways to modify the monsters.

First, let me explain the way this works. There is a file called MONSTER.DAT in your MazeDnD/DATA
folder. This is the actual file that is used by the game. If you delete this file, a new one
will automatically be created based on the information contained in the file called NEW
MONSTER.DAT located in the MazeDnD folder. This file is editable with a text editor, but I
suggest you use the monster editor built into the SysOp menu.

There is also a file called MONSTER NAMES.DAT located in the MazeDnD folder. This is just a
list of the monster names. This file is used to create the NEW MONSTER.DAT file, but NOTE!!
The NEW MONSTER.DAT file is NOT created automatically. You must go into the SysOp menu and
create it if you delete it, then go delete the MONSTER.DAT file in the DATA folder.

Creating a NEW MONSTER.DAT file.

Inside the SysOp menu, you will see an option called re-rate monsters. If you select this
option, you will have the monster names counted and displayed and then ask for minimum and
maximum values for each monster attribute.

The first attribute that is asked for is the Hit points. If there are 160 monster names, I
suggest you enter 1 as the minimum and 160 as the maximum, as this value gets increased
automatically by the program on the higher levels. In this instance, using those numbers,
monster #1 would have 1 hit point, monster #3 would have 3, monster #55 would have 55.
NOTE: If these monsters were placed on level 1, then 1 would be added the hit points.

The second attribute is the Experience, followed by the gold. Same formula works for these.
I used 5000 as the maximum for experience points and 36000 for the gold in the default setup.
This can be changed at anytime.

If this option, re-rate monster is used, the MONSTER.DAT file will be created automatically
for you.

You can also scatter monsters at random throughout the dungeon by using the Scatter Monster
option found in the SysOp menu.

You can also modify NEW MONSTER.DAT file with a text editor or with the built in monster editor,
but please note that the new MONSTER.DAT file will NOT be created unless the current one is
deleted and you re-enter the program.

If you create a nice monster set, please send it to me, I would be happy to include it with the
distribution files and give you credit for it.

Scatter Monsters:
This option can be used to add spice to the game. This option is used through the SysOp menu
and will scatter monsters throughout the dungeon at random. You will given the option to decide
on how many monsters will be placed on each dungeon level. Monsters cannot be added to room 1.

The number for the rooms are as follows:

1 11 etc..
2 12
3 13
4 14
5 15
6 16
7 17
8 18
9 19
10 20 etc...

There is also the LEVEL*10 option, which means that only monsters 1-10 will be placed on level1,
2-20 on level 2, etc. Any levels above 25 will have any monster placed on it.

There is also an option to clear out all the other monsters on each level. This WILL NOT clear
out any monsters that are the goal monster. If you do not clear out all the monsters, you will
build up quite a few in the dungeons, making it very hard to get through the dungeon, but this
option is there in case you want to not clear it out.

A special file called MONSTER LOCATION.TXT
will be created showing you where all the monsters are located. This is a text file and can be
viewed with any text editor.

Inn Information
---------------
The Inn serves as a place to rest and get some fluid for the users. It also is a place to
increase a players attributes by drinking.

There are 16 ingredients that form a combination of 96 drinks. Each drink can raise or lower
one or more of the users attributes. Each user is allowed to have 3 drinks per day.

You can modify the attributes that are raised or lowered by modifying the DRINK VALUE.DAT
file.

Below is the beginning of the DRINK VALUE.DAT file, below it will be an explanation.
0
Charm
Constit
Dexterity
Intell
Strength
Wisdom
1
0
1
0
0
0
0
2

The first 7 values are just for reference and are required by the program to be there. Next
are 7 numbers. The first number is the drink number, followed by 6 numbers that are the actual
changes that are made to Charm, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Strength and Wisdom.
You can enter negative numbers or positive number, just make sure you keep the same amount of
rows as in the original file or you will have some screwed up drinks.

You can also modify the file called DRINKS.DAT if desired. This is the ingredients to all the
drinks that are displayed when a user creates a drink. Each of the 96 drinks, when created,
will allow the user to name this drink and save their name as the inventor of the drink.

If you change any of the drinks, you MUST delete the DRINK VALUE.DAT and the DRINKS.DAT file
located in the MazeDnD/DATA folder and new ones will be created.

Tech Note:

There are 96 different possible drinks, and the way this works is as follows:

Each ingredient has a number from 1-16. As a user picks each ingredient, the number of it is
added. When they are done, this is the drink number. So, actually, adding 3 ingredients #3
together will be the same as adding a #6 and a #3 together. With 96 possible outcomes, this
should keep the users busy.

Goal Information and Setup:
---------------------------
First and MOST important, to get to the SYSOP menu; enter ! at the Main Menu.

There are many possibilities for the goal of the game. There are three
types of goals to set: Find The Objects Goal (up to ten items from 1 to 256),
Kill the Monster Goal, or Date Goal (set the game up to run for NN days and the HIGHEST rated player
once that date is reached WINS the game).

You of course can have your own side contests if you wish. You can even define a Prize
see Prize.dat).

Find The Objects Goal

This goal can have up to ten objects for the user to find. You can set it just to be one item,
or any number up to and including ten. You then scatter the objects around the dungeons and the
first player to find all the desired objects wins the game. To check the status, the user can
press T from the main menu and the program will show what items are required and how many that
user has.

Kill the Monster

You can instead, set a certain monster to kill. Pick a large mean monster and put it down in
the lower dungeons, even guard it by several other monsters. The game ends when this monster
is defeated.

You can have more than one of that type of monster in the dungeon, and multiple copies of the
items needed can be scattered throughout the dungeon.

You can also optionally set the prize for winning the game. This is done from the SysOp menu
and is contained in the file called PRIZE.DAT. You will be notified by e-mail when the game
is won and the game will be restarted at this point.

Files Used and How to Take Advantage of them:
---------------------------------------------
These are the files that are located in the MazeDnD folder and what they do. Some of these are
created when certain things happen in the game, so if some are not present, do not worry.

Age.dat - This is the file that contains the minimum age of the users that are allowed in the
program. If this file does not exist, then no age check is done. You can simply create a file
with this name and put a number in for the age, or use the SysOp option to turn this off or on.

Armor.dat - This is the default list of armor. You can modify this file if you wish. If you
modify this file, you MUST delete the one located in the MazeDnD\DATA folder and a new one will
be created when you enter the program.

Chat.dat - If this file exists, it would contain the name of the chat room to run if you are
not running Wildcat's default chat room. The file MUST contain 2 lines in it, the first would
be the name of the chat program to run, without the wcx extension. The second line should be
blank or it should contain the parameter required by the program to make it run.

Defaults.dat - This is the game defaults used by new users. This is the minimum and maximum for
each of the attributes the new users have. Modify this from the SysOp menu only. You could use
a text editor, but if you get the information scrambled the program may not function correctly.

Drinks Value.dat - This is the values for the drinks when mixed together. See the Inn for more
information on this file.

Drinks.dat- This is the main ingredients for the Inn's drinks. You can modify this file. See
the Inn for more information regarding this file.

Email.dat- This file contains bbssysop@pacbell.net and if someone picks F from the main
menu, they will be placed in Wildcat's message editor and can compose a message reporting bugs
or offering suggestions to improve the program. If you have NET access, this should send it out
to me directly and then I can respond to the person. If you do not have NET access or wish not
do employ this option, simply delete the Email.dat file and mail will be sent to the SYSOP of
the board instead. You can also put in any name there you want to. Note that this function DOES
NOT check to see if the user is a valid user on the system.

Gangs.dat - This is the list of the gangs that are in the game, you can edit this file, but you
would also have to modify the users that are in a particular gang. If you know that there are no
members of a certain gang, you can delete the gang name from this list. You can add gang names
to this list if you wish.

GoAway.dat - This file can contain names or security levels in it. If the user's name or
security level is in this file, they will not be allowed into the game. This is an easy way to
take away abusers access to the program. This file does not need to exist, if it exists, it is
checked. Capitalization is not important. Just create this file with any text editor and enter
the names or security levels each on a different line.

A file named MazeDnD GO AWAY.BBS will be displayed if this file exits. This file should be
located in the DISPLAY FOLDER of MazeDnD. This file does not get shipped with the release, you
can create it optional with WcDraw. If this file does not exist, then the user will be told that
they are not allowed into the program and to ask the SysOp for a reason or how to get access.

Group1.dat - This file is used as a catch all in the first installation to create default sub
classes. Group1 is used for the first group, the "Dwellers in the Light" and group2 is used for
the second

group called the "Subterrainean Beings". You can modify this file as you see fit.
Group2.dat - See Group1.dat

Items.dat - This is the actual list of items in the game. This file will be copied over to the
MazeDnD\DATA folder if you delete the one located in the DATA folder. If you do any modifications
to this file, do it in the game folder.

ItemsValue.dat - This is the value of the items when they are sold in the general store. In
this file is just a list of prices, starting at item 1, all the way down to the final item. You
can change the value of any particular item you want.

MazeDnD.HLP - This is the file you are reading at this time.

MazeDnD Armor Shop.bbs - This is the screen that is displayed when you enter the Armor shop. You
can redesign the screen as you see fit. See Custom Setup for more details on this option.

MazeDnD Doctor.bbs - This is an optional screen that you can create and copy over to the MazeDnD
DISPLAYS folder and will be displayed with the user enters the Doctors office. Note that this
screen is not included with the release program, but the option is there to display it if you
want to create one.

MazeDnD First.bbs - This is the screen that is displayed when you enter the game for the very
first time. You can redesign the screen as you see fit. See Custom Setup for more details on
this option.

MazeDnD General Store.bbs - This is the screen that the users sees when they enter the general
store. You can modify if to match your system if desired. See Custom Setup for more details on
this option.

MazeDnD Go Away.bbs - This file is not included with the program, if you use the GOAWAY option,
then this file could be displayed. The location should be the DISPLAYS folder of the MazeDnD
folder. Basically, you create a file called GoAway.dat inside the MazeDnD folder and put in it
any names or security levels that you want to keep certain players or security levels out of
the game. If this BBS file does not exist and you have names or security levels in the
GoAway.dat file, a simple message will be displayed.

MazeDnD Inn.bbs - This is the screen that is displayed when you enter the Inn. You can redesign
the screen as you see fit. See Custom Setup for more details on this option.

MazeDnD Lottery.bbs - This is an optional screen that you can create and copy over to the
MazeDnD DISPLAYS folder and will be displayed with the user enters the Lottery Screen. Note
that this screen is not included with the release program, but the option is there to display
it if you want to create one

MazeDnD Main Menu.bbs - This is the screen that is displayed when you enter the game. This is
the main menu where all the action takes place from. You can redesign the screen as you see fit.
See Custom Setup for more details on this option.

MazeDnD Running Maint.bbs - This is an optional screen that you can create and copy over to the
MazeDnD DISPLAYS folder and will be displayed with the user enters the game and the maintenance
is running. See Maintenance for more details. This file is not shipped with the release and you
must create it if you want to display your own custom message.

MazeDnD Sabatoge Menu.bbs - This is the screen that is displayed when you enter the Sabatoge
area. You can redesign the screen as you see fit. See Custom Setup for more details on this
option.

MazeDnD Select.bbs - This if the prompt that appears throughout the game. Make sure there are
no blank lines in this file so that the cursor will stay at the end of your prompt. You can
redesign the screen as you see fit. See Custom Setup for more details on this option.

MazeDnD Sysop.wcx - This is the SysOp program that is ran from within the game. This MUST
reside in the Wildcat folder.

MazeDnD User Help.BBS - This is the file that the users see when they press ? from the main
menu. It must be located in the DATA folder of MazeDnD. If it does not exist, it will be copied
over from the MazeDnD folder automatically when a user enters a game. You can copy this file
over to the Wildcat\Disp folder and modify it to your hearts content if you wish.

MazeDnD View.wcx - This is the program that views the top 20 for the many different categories
that are listed. This program is ran from within the program. It MUST be copied to your Wildcat
folder.

MazeDnD Game Won - This is the screen that is displayed when the user wins the game. You can
modify this screen to display a personalized message.

MazeDnD.wcx - This is the main game, it must be located in the Wildcat folder.

Level.dat - This is the values that are used to advance from level to level. The first number
in the list is what is used for levels 20 and higher, the other numbers refer to each level
from 1-19. You can modify this file, just make sure you keep the format exactly the game.

Levelname.dat - These are the masters of the game used in the level advancement. As of this
writing, they do not do much, in fact nothing at all. Just don't tell the users this and they
will think differently. I do plan to implement them into the game somehow, just have not decided
how to do it yet. This is where you could be creative and make up some story for the users. (:

LottoMoney.dat - This is how much money is in the jackpot at any given time. This is increased
when someone buys a ticket and it is decreased if someone wins the big price. You can modify
this file if you would like.

LottoPicks.dat - These are the last winning lottery numbers. Modifying this will do nothing, as
the winners are paid when the numbers are picked.

Monster Location.txt - This is a file that is created when you use the scatter monster option
in the SysOp menu. It shows detailed listing of all the location of all the monsters.

Prizes.dat - This file contains the prize that will be given out to the winner of the game.
This is optional and has no bearing on the rest of the game. If it exists, then the user will
be shown it when viewing the goal of the game.

Maint.dat - This file contains the last date that the maintenance was performed. When the first
player of the day enters the game, maintenance will be ran, cleaning up, and doing other things
that need to be done.

Monster Names.dat - This is the list of the monsters that are in the game. Changing this list
does not do anything unless you re-rate the monsters. See MONSTERS for more details.

New Monster.dat - This is the file that is created by the re-rate monster part of the program.
See MONSTERS for more details.

NoBoink.dat - This file is created if you turn on the NoBoink option from the sysop menu. This
allows the users to wander through the dungeons and run into walls without having any damage
done to them.

Overall.dat - This file is created when someone lists the top 20 overall players. This is what
is shown when a player enters the game.

Record High.dat - This is the record high score ever recorded at the time when the top overall
player is figured. This will not be deleted when the game is started over again, it is sort of
like the hall of fame, but just contains one high score and one name.

ReadMe.txt - This is a last minute read me file, it may or may not exist in your zip file.

Reg.# - This is a text file you create when you buy a registration key. This file goes in your MAZEDND folder.

RunningMaint.dat - This file is created when the maintenance is ran. If this file exits, people
will not be able to enter the game. If for some reason people are not able to get into the game,
just delete this file and it will be ok. This problem is yet to happen to my knowledge.

SysOp.dat - This file is created with the word SYSOP in it. This allows people with the
security level of SYSOP to be able to enter the SysOp part of the program. You can add any
security levels you want to this file, or even add individual names to this file. So, if you
wanted to allow SID MEIER to have SysOp access to this program, but not to the system, you can
just add his name to this file. Capitalization is not important in this file, but spelling is!

Today.log - This is the log file that can be viewed online by the users. Everything the users
do while in the game is wrote to this file. When the first user enters the game for a new day,
this file is copied over the YESTERDAY.LOG file and the Today.Log is restarted.

Version.dat - This contains the version number of the program. Do not change this, it will have
no bearing on the program, but will help me in knowing what version of the program you have.

Wall.dat - This is the information that is contained on the Zany Wall part of the program. This
file can be modified and also deleted to clean the wall.

Weapon.dat - This is the default list of weapons and their attributes. You can modify this
file, but if you do, you will need to delete the WEAPON.DAT file located in the MazeDnD\DATA
folder. When you or anyone enters the game, the one in the data folder will be created based on
the information located in the MazeDnD folder.

Whos.dat - If this file exists, it would contain the name of the Whos Online program to run if
you are not running Wildcat's default Whos online. The file MUST contain 2 lines in it, the
first would be the name of the Whos Online program to run, without the wcx extension. The
second line should be blank or it should contain the parameter required by the program to make
it run. If this file does not exist, then the built in lame looking whos online will be used.

I suggest you check out a program called SEEKINGU, written by the creator of this game. It allows
many more options then the typical Whos online program and looks very nice. You can page users
by node rather than name. Check it out at http://www.pcpursuits.com/products.htm
or WS-online, written by Thomas Kloos from Ws-soft its the program i use on my system, support is great and you can find it at www.wssoft.net.

Most of the files can be looked at with text editors, but most of the files located in the DATA
folder cannot. There is a way to run IGM type files, if you are interested, please get in touch
with me and I can give you the details and the spec sheet for my player stats.

Maintenance Information:
------------------------
Maintenance is done when the first user enters the game for the day. This is quick and should
not have any effect on anyone in the game when it happens. They will be told that the
maintenance is running and taken out of the program. Anyone trying to enter the game while the
maintenance is ran will be unable to.

During maintenance, the Lottery Tickets are drawn and the monsters, gold and items are
distributed, if this option is on.

During Maintenance, a file called RUNNINGMAINT.DAT will be created and then deleted when
maintenace is done. This will keep other users from entering the program when the maintenance
is running. If will notify the person that maintenance is running and to try again in a few
minutes. Normally it just takes a few minutes to run maintenance. You can optionally create a
file called RUNNING MAINT.BBS and place it in the MazeDnD\DISPLAYS folder and this file will be
displayed instead of the simple message.

Children are also born during the 3rd, 13th, 21st and 28th day of the month to married
couples.

Defaults Settings and Related Information:
------------------------------------------
The defaults used when creating a new character can also be changed to reflect a minimum and a
maximum value to be used. There is a file called DEFAULTS.DAT that can be modified using a text
editor or the built in option in the SysOp option menu.

For instance, you can set the minimum age to 18 and the maximum age to 50 and when a new person
enters the program, the program will randomly pick an age from 18-50 for this user.

Listed below is the meaning of the attributes:

Age: This is the age of the player and has a minor effect on the fighting ability of the
player. The older a player is, the less effective they will be when fighting. Old is considered
75 percent of the difference between the minimum and maximum age.

Charm: Charm is used in finding a mate to marry in the game. You cannot propose to anyone that
has a charm rating 3 times or more higher then you.

Constitution: This rating is used when you get killed, not defeated, but killed. It drops by
one every time you get killed and if it drops to 0, you will be removed from the game.

Dexterity: This rating is used when you are fighting users and monsters and increases your
chances of hitting the opponent. It is also used in the fist fight routines.

Health: This is unrelated to hit points. This rating is used if you get poisoned by another user.
When your health gets to 0, you will die. Not get defeated, but die, lowering your constitution
by 1.

Height: Height is entered in inches (sorry metric people), and it broke into feet and inches
when displayed. This is just used as a visual reference and has no bearing on the game. There
is no way for the user to increase their height in the game.

Intelligence: This is used throughout the program, in fighting it increases your fighting
ability. Your intelligence can be lowered in the game by doing dumb things, like withdrawing
more money than you have.

MAXHealth: This is the value that HEALTH uses when it is restored after dying.

MAXHitpoints: This is the value that HIT POINTS uses when you are defeated are restoring
them at the doctors office. This is increased only when you move up a level.

PocketMoney: This is the starting amount of money that each user gets when they start the
game. It can be whatever you want it to be. A bank account is automatically opened for each
user, but no money will be in it until the user puts some in it.

Strength: Strength is used throughout the game when you are fighting, it can be used when fist
fighting and also can make your a better fighter with a weapon.

Weight: Weight is mostly used as just a visual, but it does figure into the scores, with the
heavier you are, the more points you get and does help in fighting to be heavier. More than
300 pounds will hinder the user rather than help them. Note that it does not have a work hand
in hand with your height, you could be 2 foot tall and weight 300 pounds or be 8 foot tall and
weight 96 pounds.

Wisdom: This rating is also used in fighting, the better rating, the better you may fight.

O) Set Game Goal and/or Monster Options: This takes you to the Set Goal Submenu shown below
P) Set Number of Visits Per Day: Use this to define the maximum times your users can play the game
on any given day (entering and then exiting counts as one)
R) Player Editor: This allows you to manually edit fields (USE WITH CAUTION).
Z) Enter Registration Key that you Purchased: Use this to enter the registration code that I send to
you after you pay for the game!

The following is from the Set Goal Submenu off of the SYSOP Menu:

General discussion on setting the goal: When the goal is achieved the game is automatically ended,
scores are tallied, the hall of fame is updated, and ALL players are deleted. The game can be resumed
immediately after the goal is achieved (starting as a NEW player). In general, I recommend setting
the goal in the VERY beginning and not changing it mid-stream (ESPECIALLY changing to Monster Goal).
Only set one goal; Option A, B or C below (switching to a different one will delete the old goal).

 A) Set Date Goal (Easiest and length is known): This is the goal that you should use if you are not
sure about B or C, OR if you want to control how long any game is running for.
 B) Set Get Object Goal (Hardest and last the longest amount of time): You can define up to 10 different
objects that must be found in the dungeons in order to win the game. The objects are defined by the
item numbers of 1 to 256. The Items are randomly generated through out the dungeons and any one
item can occur more than once (e.g. item 69 may occur twice within one dungeon and/or in multiple
dungeons). IMPORTANT, run the Dungeon Report below in order to verify that the items you identify
    actually exist in the dungeon!!!
 C) Set Defeat Monster Goal (Moderate and may run for months): This option is used to define a monster
that must be beat in order to win the game. Monsters are identified by a number from 1 to 170.
IMPORTANT, run the Dungeon Report below in order to verify that the monster you identify
    actually exists in the dungeon!!!
 D) Set the Game Winning Prize (Optional): This allows you to award prizes for winning! Maybe you
can award more time online, free subscriptions, or prizes based on fees you collect!
 E) Re-rate monsters: This option lets you redefined the min and max hit points, experience and gold
for your monsters. You should not mess with this option during games. In general you probably don't
want to mess with this since it is all centered around the delicate balance of the player values
assigned as each new player enters the game (see DEFAULT.DAT). If you are not careful you can
make the monsters too easy or too difficult to beat! Be careful with this option and if you are
not sure of what you are doing, then leave it alone!
 F) Randomly Scatter Monsters: The dungeons as provided in the MazeDnD.ZIP file already have randomly
distributed monsters, items and gold. This option allows you to redistribute them BUT it should
NOT be done in the middle of a game since the Goal Monster maybe moved to a Dungeon already
explored by some players and/or the Goal Monster might not be put back in during the scattering
process. It also lets you determine how many monsters per level. There is also the LEVEL*10
option, which means that only monsters 1-10 will be placed on level1, 2-20 on level 2, etc.
Any levels above 25 will have any monster placed on it. There is also an option to clear out all
the other monsters on each level. This WILL NOT clear out any monsters that are the goal monster.
If you do not clear out all the monsters, you will build up quite a few in the dungeons, making
it very hard to get through the dungeon, but this option is there in case you want to not clear
it out. A special file called MONSTER LOCATION.TXT will be created showing you where all the monsters are located. This is a text file and can be
viewed with any text editor. BE CAREFUL!
 G) Create User Text Files: This option dumps the contents of each user data file to a text file under
the user's folder. This is more of a debugging tool than anything else but if you get into tweaking
the default values for things then this might be handy.
 H) Turn ON Auto Top Player: Not really used any more since the AUTO Top Player is always on (needed
    for the Date Goal).
 I) Generate Dungeon Report: This creates a text file in the MazeDnD folder to itemize what is in
each dungeon and where it is.
 J) Set Age Minimum: Since this game deals with some sex and violence you may want to restrict the
age of the players allowed to play this game. Of course this is good as the birthrate field in the
user record for the BBS. If you are concerned about blocking adult content then see the NOADULT.DAT
    file option above.
 K) Turn ON No Boink Option: This is probably best left in the NO BOINK mode. Boinking occurs when you
run into walls. With each boink, part of the player's health is depleted. When users access via
telnet, it is harder to control the running into walls, thus NO BOINK is better! Turning on boinking
makes the game more difficult and maybe that is something you want <G>.
 L) Name the game: This allows you to change the actual name that shows in the logs and in your Who option.
