[I wrote a ton of stuff to get the word out about the ESCAPE CD. Below is information about the CD I sent to those interested as well as the text that appeared in the "ESCAPE" intro (check /demos/misc directory). Some editing has been done. Keep in mind that NO MORE Escape CD's are available so when I mention price/etc. I am speaking in the PAST tense.] ESCAPE--The DEMO/MC2 CD What is ESCAPE? For those who do not already know ESCAPE is a DEMO and MUSIC CD whose idea began April of last year. The DEMO part of the CD was gathered from the INTERNET, BBS's and Friends. Over 190 Megs of PC Demos/Intros appear on the CD--the largest of any CD. These same demos can be found at ftp.cdrom.com and/or ftp.mpoli.fi--but who wants to spend hours downloading all that stuff? All the files (except some text) are compressed using ZIP and ARJ compression programs. Compression was utilized to allow for the Digital Audio portion of the CD. The "ESCINTRO" (aka ESCAPE.ZIP) contains all the files on the DATA portion of the CD. This intro can be found at ftp.cdrom.com under the /demos/alpha/e directory. If you are really interested in knowing what is on the data portion of the CD I recommend you download this cool intro. The MUSIC side of the CD consist of all the MC2 song entries as well as 47 minutes of Digital Audio. The songs as they appear on the CD are as follows: *Farewell 2:49 Fusion Harmony 3:25 -Snowman -Donovan Seidle Distant Voyage 5:21 Wish this song had a name 5:45 -Markell Moss -Protocol Guardian of Souls 3:36 Adrenalin 4:42 -Krystall -tR/\Sh Estranged 2:25 Deliverance 4:39 -Khyron -JeDi Maximum Overload 4:20 *Take Me to the Night 3:12 -Jenkins -Krystall Lost In My Fantasy 3:16 *Story of Faith 3:40 -Clement Poon -C.C.Catch Those with the * by them are NON MC2 entries. All songs were recorded on DAT tape using the Gravis Ultrasound Card. The SOUND QUALITY is not up to the STORE BOUGHT CD specs and can only MEET (not beat) the quality of the Gravis sound card. The volume level of the songs on ESCAPE are a little less then a STORE BOUGHT CD. The Music Contest II had TWO intros--one announcing the contest and one announcing the results. The intros can be found on this CD under the /music/mc2 directory. The biggest delay for the CDs release (November 18th) was getting art which came from those interested and/or involved in the demo scene. Both a Front insert and Backliner are in FULL color like you would find on a professional CD. All the art was "processed" using COREL DRAW 4. The label art on the CD was originally laid out to be BLUE and BLACK. The final 100 pressing had the label art in Green and Yellow. ESCAPE was created by people heavly involved in the DEMO SCENE for those interested in DEMOS. A product that follows in the "freeware" footsteps that encompasses the demo scene. (i.e. The CD was made as an archive not something user friendly.) ESCAPE is a Mixed-Mode/ISO-9660 FORMATTED CD MASTERED in the USA by 3M (Do POST-IT notes sound familiar?). The main contributors for the ESCAPE project include: Dan Wright (Pallbearer) -- Producer. Gathered Demos, coordinated project. Christopher Mann (Snowman) -- Hosted MC2. Responsible for music on CD. Dana Dominiak -- Webtec=distributor via CREDIT. Did art for front cover. Pim van Mun (Stony) -- Drew CD label art. Jester -- Created backliner and back insert art. Johnathan Vail -- Produced all printing negatives and positives. Joe Schofield -- Created a skull that appears on the back insert. Matt Heck -- Created a hand/stereo jack/stealth which appears on back insert. David H. -- Took DC2120 (Colorodo Jumbo) tapes and create an ISO-9660 CD-R. The PRICE for the ESCAPE CD is as follows: $8.50 = No Shipping and your production is on the CD (=5% discount) (You can only get this 5% discount for 1 CD UNLESS the other CD's ordered go to people who have a demo/intro/etc on the CD.) $9.00 = No Shipping--Cash, Check, Money Order Price. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Escape Intro--Started October 21, 1994, 9:30pm Addition October 22, 23 and 24th 1994. ESCAPE Things to do, not getting done, your surroundings become no fun. Out of their world and into your own where you create but they can't relate. Your out there, on a different plane, in another room, away from their troubles knowing they can't know you. But there are others like you who have "ESCAPED" to this other place. We welcome you where others have abandoned you. Yes, welcome to our realm where we have, like you, chosen to "ESCAPE" from their defined reality. Our six/seven months of toil will provide you with many hours of entertain- ment away from the over exploited commercialized world. Something completely different from the norm but what more could you expect from we who have ESCAPED...even if it is only for a short time. Watchout for those who seem to relate but only seek to exploit. Keep your eyes open and stay out there. --Pallbearer TURNED OUT The idea for this CD started with Snowman's MC2 contest and evolved into what is called a MIXED MODE CD--a CD containing computer DATA and digital DATA. I have seen the future and it is...mixed mode CD's. Our CD contains 209 Megs of demos, intros, and music (MC2) along with 12 audio tracks. SHINE The art for this CD was difficult to get--and THAT is an understatement. We did mananage to get a few very dedicated people to help and we thank them very much. So, here is the who's who regarding the CD art. The CD's dual color artwork was drawn by STONY (Pim van Mun) of Trance. Due to the low resloution of the picture the art came out somewhat pixelated but hey, that's a feature. The front cover art was drawn by Webfoot (Dana Dominiak) of Toxic Zombies. I asked for something that depicts solitude and this is what she gave me...I like it. The back cover and back insert were drawn by Jester (Tobias Reckhard). He did both his images with some kind of ray tracing program that took many hours and created huge pictures (DPI). He worked many late nights in order to meet our deadlines which always seemed to be pushed another day forward. The skull on the back cover was drawn by Joe Schofield. Yet another Toxic Zombie member came out of their crypt to help out. The hand (jack in) which also appears on the back cover was drawn by Matt Heck. Like Joe I did not give Matt much time to provide me with something. I'm glad he came through with something...So plug in. The inside text was layed out by me (Dan Wright). It took a few hours to get the layout and many more hours to decide what to say. All the art was layed out using Corel Draw versions 3 and 4. The program is quite slow but worked quite well and it was not to difficult to under- stand. Johnathan Vail, whom I met through the internet like most people I know, provide me with all the printing seps for this project. They may or may not have been done using Corel Draw. So, if the printing looks a little bit off JV, Corel, or the printers are the people you can lay the blame on. Who knows, maybe it will look cool regardless. EVERYTHING MUST GO We are pressing 300 of these DEMO/MUSIC CD's with the possibility to press an extra 100-150 within 1 year. However, there are presently no plans to do another repress so we recommend you reserve your copy ASAP. To reserve your copy E-mail, mail, or call me (information provided below). [All together 500 CD's were pressed. A hundred of which contained different color label art and no color insert art.] The anticipated release date for ESCAPE is the middle of November for the unbelievable punk price of $10 US postage paid. This is the cash/check/money order price. The credit price will be a bit higher due to it being handled via a distributor. We can ship this CD anywhere in the world for an additional $2-$3 postage charge. Price for the ESCAPE CD project was derived from the following COSTS: DESCRIPTION | COST ================================================= Two QIC 120M Formatted Tapes | $ 35 CDROM 1 OFF ($70 + 1 CD) | $ 80 CDROM Pressing/misc of 300 CD's | $1362 Printing 500 Inserts & Back Liners | $ 574 Printing separations | $ 100 Christopher Mann's DAT stuff & calls | $ 50 My phone calls | $ 30 Shipping charges for packages to 3M, etc.| $ 7 Padded Mailers (estimated for 300) | $ 120 Seven free copies of the CD | $ 70 For my time, effort, loss, misc (10%) | $ 240 US 4th Class mailing charge $1.05 | $ 315 ================================================ Total COST $2983 Thus, rounding up to $3000 and dividing by 300 we get $10 for a CD. Hand delivered CD's will sell for $9. If your production appears on the CD then you get a 5% discount. First class shipping (US/Canada only) and overseas postage has yet to be finalized. Because no CD's have been pressed as of this writing the above price is subject to change by as much as a dollar (i.e. $10 won't be postage paid). I will mail all those on the reserve list with exact details regarding cost, etc. DOWN & AWAY I would like to thank the following people for their help in bringing our CD production to life. Uploaders --Thanks for uploading to eng.ufl.edu all these years. Greets go to the few Toxic Zombies not listed above: Jason Brotherton -- Your MC2 entry (NOMAN) sounded GREAT to me. Pascal Pochol -- If you ever come to America you have a place to stay. Adam Bentley -- I still want that Toxic Zombie Tour/ASM'93 video. [I finally got a copy of this video in July 95.] Of course I must not forget to greet a few of the groups whom I have been in touch with or who have greeted me/Toxic Zombies: Greg/Phantom Dezign -- That's Pallbearer with 2 L's. What about Mayhem 2? Jare/Iguana -- Too bad we missed each other at ASM'93. Bart/Witan -- Thanks for the HOUSE part. Walk tall. Public NMI -- Hey, hey, hey, hey...wheres the mail, calls, demos? Ynos -- I never got the BUSTER BBS QIC and still created this! TEI -- We appreciate the greet in STEREO...but who are we? Lenaid/Avalanche -- I wish you would have entered MC2. Keep moshing. And finally, a few group greets without comments go to: Twilight Zone, Dust, Nostalgia, Acme, TET, Trance, Surprise! Productions, Asphyxia, Renaissance, Immortal Syndicate, Imphobia Crew, Digital Infinity, and Synergy Design. WHAT DO YOU DO There are probably people/groups I have forgotten to greet and things I should or should not have said but alas my time has come to draw this text session to a close. Those who expected this disk out mid October must excuse our optimism--I never added in the extra MONTH for problems. It is an Engineering thing which the Managers/etc never understand. Almost six billion people live on our planet yet it seems "people are people" where every you go. But you, you are different. To you there is everyone else and then yourself. You are not sure why though. For some reason the more you learn, think, live, and explore the clearer your realization becomes. You feel like an outsider even when you are on the inside. You escape in attempt to find those who relate...yea, you escape. Out There, Dan Wright Pallbearer/Toxic Zombies
