Announcing version 2.0 of the Interactive 3D Tool kit! ------------------------------------------------------ I3D is a software tool kit designed to help you create your own interactive 3D programs in C. If you're interested in creating a program similar to Castle Wolfenstein or Ultima Underworld - I3D is for you! Applications developed with I3D may be distributed royalty-free! I3D can be used to create MS-DOS or MS Windows applications. I3D comes with static linking C .LIB for DOS and Windows and a .DLL for Windows. I3D is essentially a link library which provides a set of functions that create a view bitmap. The view bitmap shows what the viewer can see of the 3D virtual world from his location when looking in the direction he is facing. I3D is designed for programmers that are familiar with the C language and programming either under MS-DOS or Microsoft Windows. Since I3D involves the drawing of bitmaps, the user should have some programming background in computer graphics. I3D 2.0 supports the following features: ---------------------------------------- * High speed texture mapping of walls, floors and ceilings. * Variable window size. * Joystick, Cyberman, keyboard and mouse support for navigation. * Lighting effects (fade to color with distance). * Automapping - as the user "sees" areas they are marked on map. * Pick (hit) detection. * Animated texture maps. * Transparent textures. * XMS memory support for storing texture maps (DOS 16-bit). * Supports 64 x 64, 128 x 128, or 256 x 256 pixel texture maps, mixed resolutions on per block basis (64 wide x 128 tall for example). * Complete set of VGA 320x200 256 color drawing routines. * Reading of PCX 256 color files. * Collision detection (viewer with walls, objects with viewer). * Look up / look down. * Variable eye level. * Sidestep / Run. * Gamma correction. * Large world maps, world maps can be edited as bitmaps. * Full screen 320x200 VGA mode in Windows. * Full C source code to demo programs. * Printed manual. * Optional full C source code (available at added cost) Some quotes from users of I3D version 1.0: ------------------------------------------ "One of the best 3-D libraries of its kind. Well-written, well-organized and easy-to-understand. I3D provides a robust set of programming tools that can be used by C programmers of all backgrounds. I recommend it without qualification." -- Craig Carlson, Director of Program Development, Palmer Lake Software, Inc. "...I3D contains all the necessary library routines for animating, in first person 3D perspective, any "rectangular" world you can imagine, complete with textured floors, walls and ceilings, just like Wolf3d. ... The manual which comes with I3D is very well written - it's short, concise and well structured and makes for easy reading and reference. Theory is explained where required, but not in so much detail as to scare off inexperienced programmers, and clear diagrams and screen prints abound. ... I was able to create my own 3D world in just a few hours, and I didn't find any bugs or other disasters lurking. ..." -- Phil Inch, Game Developer's Magazine. How to get the I3D 2.0 Demo --------------------------- A freely distributable demo is available on America Online in the Development area, on Compuserve in the GAMERS forum, and at many FTP sites and BBS's. Look for I3DDEMO2.EXE or I3DDEMO2.ZIP. This demo contains full ordering information in the file ORDER.TXT. I3D 1.0 users can find information on updating in UPDATE.TXT.
