1) Can I get an option for "filecheck" to get the output back in a
stemmed variable, instead of crammed into a file? It'd make things
_much_ easier to deal with.

First attempt at this is now done!
Check out the extendedfilecheck ARexx command.

2) How about a macro that simulates the "ispell" command, starting an
ispell running if it needs it? That way, I can get the nifty
interactive interface (which I sometimes want), while at the same time
only having deal with starting ispell once.

Still haven't done this.  I don't think that I would use it.
Maybe someday.
