                          About This Release
                          ==================
   This  is  a  solid  and polished rewrite of the original `Zoom' 4.2
program.  Many (lots of!) bugs have been fixed and new features added.
Unlike  the previous release this revision has survived intensive beta
testing across the last few months.
   The file format `Zoom' outputs has changed substancially and can no
longer be decompressed by older `Zoom' releases.  Nevertheless, `Zoom'
5.4 will still read and decompress older style archives.

   This  release is being distributed in the form of a self-extracting
archive  file.  To obtain the distribution files, enter the Shell/CLI,
type  `Zoom54.SFX'  and  press  return,  the  following  files will be
created in the current directory:

   Use  the  CRC  utility  to  verify  if  the `Zoom54.SFX' file is in
correct  state  (enter  `CRC  Zoom4.SFX'  and press return).  The WRAP
checksums of all executable files (Zoom and CRC) should be zero.

   For  those  who  need  to  write additional file integrity checking
tools, I have provided a separate tool, it is included (along with the
`C' source code) in the `Support' directory:

   If  the  checksums  do not match the given samples, the archive has
been accidentally corrupted or deliberately modified!
