About The Author:
-----------------
Rob Peck was the Manager of Technical Documentation for Amiga.
Since leaving Amiga he has had several magazine articles published
in the Amiga Transactor, Compute's Amiga Resource, Amiga World and
has had two Amiga books published: The Programmer's Guide To The
Amiga, allowing C or Modula-2 programmers to learn about programming
the Amiga. And the Amiga Companion, the book about which the reviewers
(Commodore Magazine, 10/89) have said "should be packed in the box
with every Amiga sold).

The Amiga Companion a tutorial and reference book for AmigaDOS, the
SHELL and CLI. Now in its second edition, it covers all options of
all AmigaDOS commands (including 1.3) with this in mind: "here's what
you type, here is what you see, here is what it means, and here is why
you are interested in learning about it.". For ALL Amiga owners,
including those with only one disk unit. Folks who have owned their
Amiga for as much as 4 years have said "I thought I was an expert...
and I did not have any idea that AmigaDOS could do some of what I
found in the Companion."

Rob is currently working on another project - "A Beginners Guide To
Programming In C for the Amiga". He realized that the ROM Kernel
Manuals are simply too packed with information to be of direct use
to a new user and that the Programmer's Guide is directed toward
someone who already knows C or Modula-2 programming. This new project
will take someone who has some programming experience (in BASIC or something
like it) and, keeping as simple as possible, teaches C programming
for the Amiga from scratch.

The project includes the Publically Distributable C compiler (PDC)
and example programs on disk. The compiler instructions and examples
are all PDC, Lattice and Manx C compatible, allowing the novice programmer
to get a taste for what it is like to program in C without requiring a
major investment. And the example programs take the form of "insert
your code here", handling any complicated setup or decoding of options
for the user. Write to DATAPATH for details. Rob estimates that early
orders for this project can be serviced by Feb. 1, 1990.
