STYROFOAM IGUANA SOFTWARE PRESENTS: SIGNFONT for the Commodore Amiga!!!!!!!!!!!!! SignFont developed by the Salk Institute for Biological Studies P.O. Box 85800 San Diego, CA 92138 TDD: (619) 453-5470 Voice:(619) 453-4100 x222 or x417 and Emerson & Stern Associates, inc. 10150 Sorrento Valley Rd suite 210 San Diego, CA 92121 TDD: (619) 457-1876 Voice:(619) 457-2526 Amiga font and keymap programmed by: Glyn Thomas Gowing Styrofoam Iguana Software 3500 Pelham Rd. #185-A Greenville, SC. 29615-4127 Voice: (803) 458-9672 (sorry, can't afford a TDD) Compuserve: 73207,747 ******************************************************************************* ALSO BY STYROFOAM IGUANA: the uea1 keymap and the SLATE/8 font so you can type in ESPERANTO on your AMIGA! (release also includes an Esperanto primer and information on the international Language!) available wherever you get great PUBLIC DOMAIN software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember--Styrofoam Iguana: Products from minds that are not mearly twisted, but actually sprained! ******************************************************************************** Signfont is a method of writing American Sign Language the way it is signed! No more do you have to write to your Deaf friends in English when you use ASL with them when you meet. No more do you have to try to translate great Deaf stories or jokes into English, only to lose a lot in translation. ASL can be written as ASL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The keymap, sfnt1, works like any other Amiga Keymap. Just use a setmap command. WARNING: if you want to experiment, first click open the System drawer, then single click the SETMAP icon, and in TOOLTYPES type KEYMAP=usa1 and hit the return, then save it. This way, you can go back to the standard keymap with the mouse, and then use the Amiga's CLI as if nothing happened. This is VERY important, as I shall explain below. The font, SignFont/9, is a proportionally spaced, 9 point font. That means it is just slightly larger that the default system font, TOPAZ/8. HOWEVER: I did some serious work on the keymap and the font, so that I will later be able to write a COMPLETE wordprocessor (Don Newkirk, are you reading this...why have you never sent that info I asked for...I'll even pay the postage) which will include, get this, a SPELLCHECKER to make sure we are writing our signs correctally according to the rules of SignFont (pg. 45 in the ARCHITECT: FINAL VERSION book. I don't know where it is in any other books) and so we can use the operating system files to SORT things in SIGNFONT alphabetical order (Thanks again to the gang who put that stuff in the book). The Keymap DOES NOT send out the ASCII codes that correspond to the original key covers. This would never work, as I would have to write a monster of a hashing programme to alphabetize SIGNFONT later. Also in the works is a complete TERMINAL programme that will allow you to use either ASCII/English or SIGNFONT (how does 2400 baud sound to all of you using TDDs at 110 baud and have computers), and even an RTTY and Packet programme using Signfont for all you Deaf Ham radio types. Of course, all the menus, error messages, etc. will be in SIGNFONT and ASL for all of these programmes, so please let me know what you would like to see out there for the AMIGA. We have one of the most adaptable computers out there, and it is time we put it to work for the Deaf Community. PLEASE HELP ME MAKE MORE PROGRAMMES FOR THE DEAF ON THE AMIGA!!!!!!! Any ideas sent to me via COMPUSERVE or US MAIL will be appreciated, as would any donations to help fund this work (And to get disks out to you all). REGISTRATION: Anyone who wishes to be kept up to date on future improvements (like fixing the keymap so it will send the correct control codes to get out of programmes, and the WordProcessor) and other Styrofoam Iguana software products MUST register with me. I am placing this stuff out on the Public Domain circut, but the really good versions of the Word Processor and other programmes only go to those who ask. I would like to be able to give all of this out for free, but I am a college student who needs money for things like disks to send out updates to registered users, and to try to pay my phone bill for up and down loading all the stuff i have been using to get this done. Registration is $5, in check (US or Canadian funds, i'm not picky) or US stamps. Anything more, like samples of your poetry or som of your favorite stories and jokes IN SIGNFONT would also be appreciated, and may even get you your $5 back (i'm not kidding--if it's funny...). Send registrations (include your name and address and signname) to: Glyn Gowing 3500 Pelham Rd #185-A Greenville, SC 29615-4127 USA (registration checks payable to Glyn Gowing) Please see the file SFNT.DOC for more information on how to use the keymap and font. I cannot include a primer on Signfont in this release, but if you write to either of the first two addresses, I know that they will be able to help you.
