Soft Span BBS Addendum to the documentation ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- See the end of this file for information on VERSION 2.0 ============================================================================= Version 1.1 (July 10, 1990) ---------------------------- All the bugs which were reported to me have been fixed. Besides the new SoftSpan executable, note some changes in the 'modem' configuration file: The SET string is different. In particular, the ATZ reset has been eliminated. Keep it that way. If you are using the internal serial port, register S2 is set to 255 to disable the '+++' escape code. Instead, make sure that DTR_HANGUP is selected. The computer will access the serial port directly and drop the DTR line when it wants to hang up. If you don't understand this, just make sure that your modem is set to respond to a drop in the DTR line. If you're not using the internal serial port, remove the DTR_HANGUP line and use the alternate SET string provided. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STARTCREDIT can now be set independently for each standard access level. In the Usered utility, you can now disable individual access bits without clearing everything out. The X-Modem 1K file transfer protocol has been added. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As usual, please contact me if you find any bugs I missed. If you're a registered user, bug fixes will be sent to you promptly and free of charge. ============================================================================== = UP AND COMING: Version 2.0 = ============================================================================== I am now working on what will become version 2.0 of the SoftSpan BBS system. Here's what I have planned: The addition of Y-MODEM, Z-Modem and Kermit protocols. Command history. Daily log of BBS usage. Full screen ANSI based message editor. Voting Booth Trivia More sysop utilities Multi-User support Completely rewritten documentation User-friendly installation/configuration program An interface to the public domain UUCP for the Amiga, so that you can set up SoftSpan as a Usenet node. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unfortunately, SoftSpan 2.0 will probably NOT be Shareware or public domain, although I may release a demo version as such. All registered users of SoftSpan will get a discounted upgrade price. In addition, I will consider registered users first to be test sites when a pre-release version is available. If you have any features you would like to see added, let me know. Also, if you send me your address, I will write to you when Version 2.0 is available, whether or not you have registered.
