The Reconcile function allows you to quickly check if what the bank shows as your statement balance and what your checkbook register shows as your statement balance. Once all cleared (posted) transactions are in for the month, select Reconcile and choose OKAY to continue. The program will determine the checkbook's statement balance, by totalling only those transactions that have been marked as being cleared (has a valid date in the CLEARED string gadget). The amount shown in the STATEMENT BALANCE box on the lower-left of the Main Screen is what the Checkbook Accountant shows as being your statement balance. If they are the same, congratulations!...you have just balanced your checkbook. If you get different statement balance amounts, don't fear. Print out a copy of either all checkbook transactions from the last balanced statement to the last-entered transaction (from the View requester, select ALL TRANSACTIONS and RANGE with a suitable "from" date; leave the "to" date blank so that it will print from that date forward), or only the cleared transactions (from the View requester, select Cleared Transactions and RANGE, as described in the previous step). Go to the Print requester and select Viewable Transactions and the desired destination (printer or disk file, whichever is best for you). Compare the printout with your checkbook register. This should help track down any discrepancies in recording the transactions. If you find any errors, correct them and try again. Repeat this process until you cannot find the error on your part and being to believe the error is in the bank's records. You will have to deal with the bank yourself; Checkbook Accountant can only do so much. Good luck with your reconciliation. If you have any problems balancing your checkbook, try out different View and Print options. Their availability is to your advantage. ---------------------------------------------------- The following lists the operations possible through the Reconcile requester along with their keyboard equivalents. No menu selection is required for these operations, so you can either press the required letter on the keyboard, click on the corresponding gadget, or press the letter along with the RIGHT-AMIGA key (the RIGHT-AMIGA keypress is ignored). FUNCTION SELECTED BY -------- ----------- OKAY Y Accepts the precondition of the Reconcile function. The amount shown in STATEMENT BALANCE after selecting OKAY is what the program says is your statement balance. CANCEL N Terminates continuation of the Reconcile function, to either fulfill the precondition or select another function. -- END OF RECONCILE HELP --
