VDE is a small (47K), fast and powerful text editor.  It can work with

VDE is fast.  Written in 8086 assembler, it writes directly to video RAM
(on PC compatibles) and operates entirely in memory with no disk access 
during editing.  Speed is a factor that more cumbersome, full-featured
