NewCompact
PostScript Font

What is it?
NewCompact (for the lack of a better name) is a professional quality post-
script font consisting of an abbreviated character set of (alpha numerics
and most common English punctuation, 94 characters total).

As a freelance Mac based artist/designer, I originally created NewCompact
(1) due to frustration with the lack of character spacing control in earlier
versions of pagemaker, not to speak of draw programs (2) an appreciation of
tightly spaced headlines and text and (3) need of a font with a high char-
acter per pica count. Placed in service nearly a year, I've had no problems
and no complaints from client or service bureau. High legibility and good
color even in text sizes when used sensibly

Success doesn't come cheap--40 hours minimum of creation including the awe-
some task of reconciling character offset to kerned pairs. There are 49
kerned pairs. With nearly 9000 possible pairs, I may have missed a few.

What's Included?
"NewCom" -the printer component.
"NewCompact" -the screen font component-72pt. (Yea, I know what your think-
ing, if this guy can make a large screen font why can't Adobe do it?)
"NewCompactReadMeFirst"- what you're reading now.

Print something?
Drag the printer component to the system folder (don't rename this file),
install the screen font and fire up that masterpiece of PostScript compati-
ble programming [Aldus, Adobe, Quark, ect].

The proof's in the printing.
There you have it.

What's the catch?
Try it for 30 days, if you find it useful send (1) SE30 or $10.00 to
David C. Saunders, PO Box 63, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313 to receive a user
license and oblique and extended versions by return mail. That's 4 fonts
in all in a variety of screen sizes.
If you are a fellow Fontographer user (2.4.1 or higher) send (1) IICX or
$30.00 and receive a dupe of the original outline file and make your own.

What's not included.
No assumption of liability of any kind, for any reason--Use at your own
risk. No license for commercial use. (Commercial use license offered with
receipt of shareware payment.)

This is a test.
If all goes well, there will be additional fonts offered. Remember, I make
money the old fashioned way.

Permission is granted to upload these files to other bulletin boards provi-
ded all three files are included without alteration.

(NOTE: This file has had minor editing for easier reading on MS-DOS com-
puters. As per the above request, the original files have been preserved
in their original form and this document has been ADDED to them. For use
on a MAC system, extract the files from the .SIT file.
