------------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction
------------
Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to evaluate VersionViewer.
This is a simple, but powerful, utility for browsing the version
data embedded in Windows executable files (EXE, DLL, VBX, etc).

Other features include
o Sharp, easy to use interface
o Excellent help file, with graphics
o "Wizard" to find duplicate files
o "Wizard" to help compare files
o "Wizard" to compile a report of files on your PC

What is "version data?"
-----------------------
Version data is descriptive information
about a file that is actually embedded inside the file itself.
The description information includes the file version, the author
or company that produced the file, the product that uses the file,
comments, and other data. This data is often used by Windows
compatible setup programs to make sure more recent versions of
system files are not overwritten with older versions.

Why do I need to examine version data?
--------------------------------------
1. You are cleaning out your computer and notice two copies of
the same VBX or DLL file. You want to know which is the more
   recent version.

2. A software package won't run because you have an older version
of a support DLL. You need to find out what version that file
is to help figure out why the package won't run.

3. You recently deleted a software package by deleting the
directory it was stored in. You want to find out if the
package installed any stray DLL or VBX files in your
   windows\system directory.

4. You have a gazillion DLL/VBX/EXE files in your windows and
windows\system directories and you want to know what all thos
   files are for.

5. You have a slew of DRV (driver) files in your windows\system
directory. You want to know what hardware those drivers are
   for.

6. ETC.

System Requirements
-------------------
o Windows compatible computer system
o Windows 3.1 or higher
o Mouse or other pointing device
o A copy of VBRUN300.DLL

VBRUN300.DLL is available from many BBS systems, commercial systems
such as Compuserve and America Online, and shareware disk vendors.
On Compuserve, VBRUN300.DLL can be found in the WINSHARE and MSBASIC
forums. It should be placed in you windows\system directory.

Installation
------------
1. Unzip this program to a temporary directory
2. Run the INSTALL.EXE program from Windows
3. After the installation is complete, you can
delete the files out of the temporary
   directory.
