DATABASE DESIGN, MAINTENANCE, DOCUMENTATION - ALL IN ONE ADD-ON!!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

In Paradox all definitions of tables and fields are stored together with
the tables of the physical database. This makes it very difficult to get an
overall idea of the structure of sizable databases, and it makes design,
documentation and maintenance rather laborious.

With PARADOX DATA DICTIONARY, however, there's no need to wish for rare
things like photographic memory, second sight and plenty of time when you
want to be highly efficient in your database management.

PARADOX DATA DICTIONARY gives you perfect control over design, maintenance
and documentation.

EVERYTHING IN ONE MODEL
-----------------------
In an elegant logical model outside the physically implemented database you
now have the complete structure of your database at your disposal.

This means that you can forget about the long meanderings through the Paradox
menus which both blur the picture you have of your database and are an
obstacle to efficient database management.

In the well-arranged model of your database, which is contained within just a
couple of screens, all design options are at your disposal. You have global
on-line information of all previous design definitions for the database
(including formats and validity checks), and your previous design definitions
can be changed within the model. Comments are easily added to the definitions.

DRAW YOUR DATABASE
------------------
As a completely new feature in the Paradox environment, PARADOX DATA
DICTIONARY now makes it possible to draw your database on the screen as
you are designing it.

In the program's Database Manager you simply place the tables of the database
on the screen as boxes. And, of course, the various kinds of connections
between the tables are displayed automatically (TableLookups, MultiTable,
ReportLookups).

AUTOMIZED MAINTENANCE
---------------------
Accessibility and transparency are key words for PARADOX DATA DICTIONAY.
Another one is efficiency.

Among other things, this means that much maintenance is automatized. e.g.,
you no longer need to reinsert a field in forms and reports when it's
definition has been changed in the table. Paradox Data Dictionary
automatically reinserts the field in every form and report.

                   PARADOX DATA DICTIONARY FEATURES
                   --------------------------------

FAST AND FLEXIBLE DESIGN

Paradox Data Dictionary gives you:
----------------------------------

* Interactive database design in an easy-to-use semi-graphical
        arrangement of the database.

* Administration of any number of databases in a centralized Data
        Dictionary.

* A flexible and transparent Data Dictionary that allows you to
move easily between design definitions for tables, fields,
forms and reports, and to use this information actively
        (change it or copy it).

* The ablitity to Analyse existing databases. You do bot have do
recreate your existing databases. Paradox Data Dictionary can
analyse your existing database and thereby create a logical
description of it. After that, you are able to maintain your
database from with Paradox Data Dictionary

* No limits on the possible number of tables and fields for your
        database.

* Optional directories for your databases and tables.

* Password option on directory level.

* Complete coordination of field definitions through an active
        Field Dictionary (incl. desciption).

* ! Table structure and field definitions (ValChecks) in one screen,
when you create or restructure a table.

* ! The possibility of copying field definitions from the Field
Dictionary to a tables structure when you create or restructure.

* ! The possibility of copying pictures from a library of standard
pictures that is helpful when you design fields with standard formats
(e.g. phone#, Zip Code etc.). This library can be expanded at will.

* Automatic uniformation of fields that are used globally in
the database. Changes in a field defined in the Field Dictionary
will thus automatically lead to a correction of all the fields that
use the changed definition, across the boundaries of tables.

* ! A safeguard against the deletion of fields in forms and reports
when the table structure is changed. Paradox Data Dictionary
avoids this problem for you by REINSERTING THE FIELDS.

* The opportunity to document your database while you are
        designing it.

* The possibility of differentiating between the tables that
constitute the actual database and peripheral ones like
        temporary or auxiliary tables.

* Logical limitation on possible lookuptables. In connection with
the definition of table lookups, only tables with identical key
types and field names can be chosen.

* Analysing existing databases. You do bot have do recreate
your existing databases. Paradox Data Dictionary can analyse your
existing database and thereby create a physical description of it.
After that, you are able to maintain your database from with
        Paradox Data Dictionary

*       Full support for RDA

* Link til ApForm. If you are a user of ApForm. You can Design and
change Forms and Reports from within Paradox Data Dictionary, using
ApForm. Thus you'll never need to create objects to at table outside
        Paradox Data Dictionary.

Extensive Documentation

* A survey of all the tables of the database, including the relations
between them (lookups, form and report links).

* Exhaustive information on table structure with cross reference to
        the global Field Dictionary.

* A collective listing of all the field definitions of the database.
You get information on format, field type, keys, ValChecks and
secondary keys. To get the same information in Paradox
you would have to go through countless steps in the Paradox
        menu.

* A survey of all fields in the database with the definitions in
the global Field Dictionary - arranged according to field
name. It's even possible to see connections to tables, forms and
        reports.

* Full documentation of the forms and reports of the database.

* ! PDD is the only tool trying to report the fields used to link
tables in MultiTable Forms and Lookup-links in reports.

We've nailed it down to report 5-10% wrong links. But it's still
        a help.

Paradox gives NO support what so ever for us to get the
information, but we're using a simple kind of AI to calculate
        and check possible links.

* All reports from Paradox Data Dictionary can be sent to the
        printer, screen or a file.

Hardware and Software Requirements

* To be able to run Paradox Data Dictionary version 3.5 of
        Paradox is required.

NOTE: The shipping version of PDD 1.5 includes a patch to support
the compatible mode in Paradox 4.0. It makes it possible to
              create M(emo) and B(lob) fields.

*       Color screen is recommended.

* If you run Paradox in Protected Mode or Real Mode you need
at least 100 Kb specified in the function MemLeft().

* Paradox Data Dictionary does not exist in a network version.

What Paradox Data Dictionary will not do

* PDD is not cable of keeping the Report Groups when you change the
field type. We are currently trying to pacth that, and when we do
it will be offered as a free upgrade. It will be included in the
        Px40 version.

* Because we're not able to give a 100% picture of the linked fields
with MultiTables and ReportLookups (even if it's close), we can't
reinsert lost MultiTable links, when field type changes for
a field that is used in a link.

* PDD is not cable of keeping you away from all the unexpected
conditions. Using PDD you'll definately not run in to the most
common ones. But some of the unexpected loopholes is hard to trap
for because there occure after a long sequence of actions, AND THEY
ARE KNOWN BUGS IN PARADOX. The loopholes we know is documented in
        the readme file.

Paradox Data Dictionary has been mention in Paradox Informant (Vol. 3, number
7, page 16) in the NewsLine section.

"C&B International Demos New DB Modeling Tool"

Palm Desert, CA - Paradox Database Manager <red. Paradox Data Dictionary>
was one of the many products showcased at the recent Borland Database
Confeence in Palm Desert. The product is an interactive tool that allows
Paradox users to model their databases.

With Paradox Database Manager, the user places Paradox tables on the screen
as boxes. Relationships between tabels are shown automatically. The demo of
the product at Palm Desert illustrated its ability to show existing
definitions of tables (including validity checks and formats), and add
comments for further explanation.

As databases (tables) are modified, all ValChecks are maintained and updatet
by Paradox Database Manager. These automated features make database
maintenance transparent to the person creating them.

Other features such as changing a field type in a table is completly
maintained by Paradox Database Manager. There is no need to reinsert fields
on forms and reports if changes have been made to a field <red. PDD reinserts
the field after the modification>

Developed by C&B International of Denmark, Paradox Database Manager also
included a Data Dictionary that allows you to easily move between design
definitions for tables, fields, forms, and reports. It also included a
library of standard pictures that helps when developing databases with
standard formats such as zip codes, telephonenubers, etc.

Paradox Database Manager also contaions extensive documentaion facilities.
Table relationships, field definitions, and forms and reports documentation
is also included.
