NEC REDUCES PRICE OF SILENTWRITER SUPERSCRIPT 610 GDI LASER PRINTER

Offers Best Price/Performance of any Laser Printer; Ideal for Small
Office/Home Office Market

Boxborough, Mass., March 29, 1994--Citing economies-of-scale through the
design and manufacture its own print engine, NEC Technologies (NECT)
announced today that it is reducing the price of its Silentwriter
SuperScript 610 laser print by nearly $100, effective April 1. NECT was
the first leading manufacturer to introduce a printer in the fast-growing
graphical device-interface (GDI) market.

The new estimated selling price, under $500, makes the six pages per minute
(ppm) SuperScript 610 printer the best price/performance choice of any
laser printer on the market today, and an ideal laser printer for the
growing small office/home office (SOHO) market.

"Our reduced pricing makes the SuperScript 610 printer the best buy for
anyone running Windows 3.1 applications," said John McIntyre, director of
marketing for NEC's Printer Business Unit. "Its speed and Windows
capability make it the perfect solution for the SOHO environment."

About the Silentwriter SuperScript 610

The SuperScript 610 printer is the first personal laser printer to be
driven by the PC's processor rather than its own, which makes it
incredibly fast and affordable. Conventional printers require two
translations: one in the PC to a standard emulation; the other in the
printer. All of which takes time. The SuperScript 610 printer uses
NEC-developed technology designed specifically for Windows to convert GDI,
Windows' native language, directly into dot graphics (rasterizing).
Therefore, the SuperScript 610 printer prints the first page of a job
twice as fast as any other Windows printer.

This award-winning laser printer is feature-rich, offering 300
dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution with Sharp Edge Technology for 600 dpi
quality. The SuperScript 610 printer supports Windows GDI, LaserJetIIP
(PCL4), and a PostScript Level 1 option. A 50-sheet hopper for input and a
50-sheet face-up tray are standard, as is a single-sheet, face-down door
for input. A 200-sheet input hopper is optional.

"This price reduction now enables even entry-level laser printer buyers to
enjoy high levels of performance."
