I-Bridge for Mobile Client/Server Computing

March 20, 1994 -- Cambridge, MA. I-Kinetics announced today I-Bridge for
PPP, Windows to Unix middleware that uses standard telephone modem
communication links. I-Bridge provides MS Windows applications with the
ability to create Agents which gather data from remote UNIX servers. At
Uniforum, I-Kinetics will be demonstrating Windows spreadsheets accessing
Sybase, Oracle and a variety of other applications 3000 miles away using
I-Bridge for PPP.

The I-Bridge for PPP as well as TCP/IP based local area networks is
available for all I-Bridge Adapters immediately. The I-Bridge Adapter for
Microsoft Excel is currently shipping for $295. I- Bridge Adapters for
Lotus 1-2-3 and Borland Quattro Pro will be available this summer.

"Now, with the I-Bridge For PPP, road warriors such as sales engineers,
CPAs, retail managers and securities analysts can connect to customer or
home office systems via modem. For example, they can load data directly
into their spreadsheet from market data feeds, databases, EIS apps, fund
management or accounting systems as if they were sitting at their desktop
PC on the LAN," said Abe Hirsch, I-Kinetics' V.P. of Sales and Marketing.
I-Bridge also enables employees to tele-commute from home or customers to
access secured subsystems with just a notebook PC and a modem.

I-Bridge Agents create an extra dimension of control for automating remote
access. Unlike other network communications methods between programs, the
I-Bridge Agent can control the execution of a UNIX program and then
transport the output to a Windows application, optionally filtering and
formatting it. Previously, the only way the mobile user could get data
from their corporate information systems was with complicated file
downloads, or tedious cut and paste from terminal sessions. All this
frustrating, error prone overhead is eliminated with the I-Bridge.

I-Bridge Agents transport username, password, and request information to
the server. There they gather data either by executing a script to run a
program or submitting SQL to a database. The results are formatted and
transported back to the Windows application. Additionally, I-Bridge Agents
can execute in the background, freeing the PC for other tasks while the
data is being gathered. This feature is especially appreciated by power
users who have tasks with large data transfers or long execution times.
