Normally, when you think of post cards you think of those bits of a
person's vacation you receive in the mail: "Having a wonderful time, wish
you were here". But there is another use for these small but effective
messengers, and PostCardMaster helps you use that to your advantage. You
see, post cards cost less than 2/3 the price of a letter; and when used
for things like meeting notices, reminders, address changes, and
invitations they can save you $$$ and time. PostCardMaster will help you
compose p ost cards and maintain addresses on disk. The primary purpose of
the program is to print post cards, and address them, but the program does
a lot more than that! Features include:

* Standard Address entries for Name, Salutation, Key, 4 line Address,
Phone Number & Remarks.
* Standard PostCard entries for Title, Salutation, and choice of 3
different sizes and 3 different pitches for the PostCard.
* Full featured text editor for text portion of PostCard. Includes ASCII
Import/Export of text, block commands, Word Wrap and Scroll toggles.
* Later, if you need to change the size or pitch of the PostCard program
will realign your existing card for you.
* Find! feature that allows the user to search for records by ANY of the
fields (even a line of text from the PostCard!).
* After items are found they can be "thumbed through" or User can edit the
entry as necessary.
* Choice when printing of all, criteria of any of the fields or
combination, or the user can select entries using full screen selection
process.
* Close Nuf ' feature that allows partial 'wildcard' style entries to be
used for Print Out and Find! options.
* Print Outs available: An abbreviated listing, sample PostCards, Address
Labels, PostCards, 2 Way Cards, 3X5 Cards, Rolodex Cards, Return Address
Labels, Multiple Unaddressed PostCards, Self Addressed PostCards, or a
Kustom Listing.
* User can obtain listing and statistics of all Keys used in the program.
* All output can be sent to printer, screen or an ASCII file.
* Quik Info Key (F2) will supply user with Quik Info that the user has
entered into the system, like a custom made help screen.
* Choice of indexing by: Name, Zip Code, Key or Telephone Number.
* User inputs Return Address block, Signature Block.
* User can enter choice of colours, data drive and default card size and
pitch.
* Supports Dot Matrix or Laser printers (including Duplex printers).
* User can enter printer codes for their particular printer, enabling
compatibility with 1000s of printers instead of just a few.
* Will allow you to spell check with ShareSpell, internally.
* Over 50 different context sensitive help screens.
* Mousable.

System Requirements: MS-DOS Compatible System with 330K RAM , Mono or
Colour Monitor, Laser or Dot Matrix printer, One or Two HD Floppy or Hard
Drive.

Getting Started:

DO NOT INSTALL THE PROGRAM IF YOU ARE ALREADY USING IT! SEE THE
FILE UPGRADE.DOC ON HOW TO UPGRADE THE PROGRAM.

The following files must be on the same drive/subdirectory:

                                COLOUR.SET
                                HELP.PLS
                                HELP.DBT
                                NEWUSER1.DAT
                                NEWUSER1.DBT
                                NEWUSER2.DAT
                                PCMSTR.EXE

Mouse Users:

YOU must activate the mouse prior to the start of the program. Two Button
Users: The Left Button serves as the return/enter key, The Right Button is
the [ESC] key. Three Button Users: Same as two button Users, and the
middle button is the [F1] key.

Type PCMSTR to start.

When you first start the program, the computer will bring up the Default
SetUp screen first. Just enter the info requested. When you name the
Disk Drive, the program will automatically create the data files on that
drive for you ! So Have A Disk In The Drive And Ready ! The program will
not do any further copying on its own. In order to create new data disks
see below (Default SetUp).

Data Drive: The drive where you want your data files (A,B,C, etc). Does
not have to be the same as the drive where the program is located.

Date Format:

You have the following choices:

                A=American MM/DD/YY {Default}
                B=British  DD/MM/YY
                F=French   DD/MM/YY
                G=German   DD.MM.YY
                I=Italian  DD-MM-YY

Default Card Size:

This is the card size that will automatically appear every time you go
to add a PostCard. You can always change it when adding, this just makes
it easier.

Dot Matrix: 1 = 3 1/2" X 5", 2 = 4"X 6", 3 = TriFld

Lasers: 1 = 3 1/4" X 7 3/8", 2 = CrdStk, 3 = TriFld

               {See Appendix C for PostCard Specifications}

Default Pitch:

This is the card size that will automatically appear every time you go
to add a PostCard. You can always change it when adding, this just makes
it easier.

Pitches for both types of printers are: 1 = 10cpi, 2 = 12cpi, and 3 = 17cpi

You can always go back and change any of these settings by using the
Default SetUp option on the Utilities Menu.

Printer Type:

Enter L for Laser, D for Dot Matrix (You can set the codes used by the
printer later using the Printer SetUp option off of the Utilities Menu).

Return Address:

This lets you put in your own address. Just put your name in Signature
block (the way you want it to appear) and the company name or your formal
name in the Name Block.

You can always go back and change any of these settings by using the
Return Address option on the Utilities Menu.

Quik Info SetUp:

This allows you to enter up to 6 lines of information you can have
displayed whenever you hit the [F2] key. This is useful for keeping a
chart of the Keys you use on line, for use during Updates & Adds.

                            -PostCardMaster 3-

You can always go back and change any of these settings by using the
Quik Info SetUp option on the Utilities Menu.

The System:

Is designed using KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) so not much information is
needed to get started. Here are a few notes to help you use the system:

The [ESC] key will take you back one menu (Mouse Users use Right Button).

The box in the upper right hand corner of the screen will contain
information on how to move around, and data entry tips.

The last line of the screen will tell you what the highlighted option does.

All menu entries can be selected with the light bar, or by pressing the
first letter of the option (Mouse Users when highlighted the Left Button
will activate the option).

The [F1] key will bring up Help for a particular item, if no Help is
available for that item, it will allow you to enter the help index. From
the index you may select any of the topics of help available. The Help
file was not written by the same person who wrote this manual, therefore it
might help better explain something to you than this manual does and vice
versa. (Mouse Users: Hit the Middle Button).

The [F2] key will bring up the Quik Info screen. The data for this screen
is entered by YOU. Select the Quik Info SetUp option from the Utilities
menu to enter data.

The Main Menu:

Lets you get into the PostCard or Address systems, obtain print outs,
Find! entries and go to the Utilities. The PostCard and Address systems
let you Add, Update and Delete within the your files.

Exiting & Backing Up:

To exit the program you just hit the [ESC] key, you will be asked if
you are sure, enter Y to exit, N to return to PostCardMaster. You also
have the option of backing up your data files at this point by hitting the
letter B and specifying a backup location.

PostCards:

First a few explanations about the PostCards:

For Dot Matrix Printers:

4" X 6" and 3 1/2" X 5" PostCards are pin fed stock available a number of
places. The width is not as important as the length, in other words a 3
1/2" X 6" card will work fine, but not a 1" X 5".

                            -PostCardMaster 4-

For Laser Printers:

The 3 1/4" X 7 3/8" cards come three on a sheet (therefore they can not be
used for 2 Way Cards since it requires pairs to be on the same sheet). They
can not be sent for PostCard rate either. Due to their length, they
require First Class postage.

CrdStk refers to Card Stock. This can be any 8 1/2" X 11" sheet of
stock, or pre perforated sheets (perfed into 4 equal sections). These are
printed in Landscape mode (side ways). If you do not have a duplex printer
you will need to send the sheets through the printer twice. Remember, when
printing the Address side of the card, the PostCard text should be fed into
the printer with the "top" of the printing to the left. Also, remember to
reverse the order of the sheets to keep them in sync.

Both Printers:

TriFld refers to Tri Fold. Basically, a single sheet of 8 1/2" X 11" paper
that is folded into thirds, with the address printed on the center section
of the outside. (These would not work well for Multiple or Incoming Cards
so they will not be displayed for those print outs.)

Layout:

   ͻ ͻ

                              -Fold-

         PostCard Text Addressee's Address

                              -Fold-

   ͼ ͼ

These also require First Class postage.

PostCard Info: Enter the Title of the PostCard (this is for YOU it is not
used in the print outs and does not appear on any of the PostCards),
a Salutation (Dear, Attention, etc), the Size of the PostCard, and the
Pitch desired.

From here the [PgUp] will take you to the PostCard Text window.

PostCard Text: This window (if space allows) will be as big as the size
and pitch of the PostCard you selected. If the card is too big to fit a
message will appear in the upper right hand corner of the window to tell

                            -PostCardMaster 5-

left corner the card's dimensions will be displayed in Lines and Columns.

{When Scrolling is on SCR will appear on the lower right of the screen.
When WordWrap is active WRP will appear}

The Read and Write File commands will let you enter up to 40 characters for
the location and filename you want to read or write. ie
A:\PRIVATE\CARD.TXT. The file MUST be in ASCII format, but can include the
extended ASCII graphics symbols.

When you use BlokZ, you first start the BlokZ by hitting the [F2] key, then
move the cursor to the end of the BlokZ you wish to mark. The highlighted
text is what the BlokZ contains. It will only work on the text currently
displayed on the screen.

When you are at the end of the BlokZ hit the [F2] key again to end. You
will then be prompted for disposition of the BlokZ. You can Copy, Move,
Delete or Write the BlokZ.

The Copy command will leave your original text in place and then allow you
to copy the BlokZ elsewhere by hitting the [F7] key when you have the
cursor positioned where you want it.

The Move command works just like the copy command, except the original
BlokZ is deleted from the old location prior to you selecting the new
location for the BlokZ.

Delete simply erases the entire BlokZ.

Write lets you enter a filename and then writes the BlokZ to it. You can
enter up to 40 characters for the location and filename you want to write.
ie A:\PRIVATE\CARD.TXT. The original BlokZ location is left untouched.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind:

When you print your PostCard the program will add the line (using Dear, for
the PostCard Salutation and George as the Address Salutation for example):

Dear George, (Date)

At the end it will add your signature. So, you only need enter your
text and the sign off you desire in the PostCard Text, ie Sincerely, Best
Wishes, etc.

When you complete the PostCard, hit [PgDn]. To abort hit [ESC]. You will
have the option of adding another (A) or changing the entry you just made
(C).

PostCard Update And Delete:

When you select either of these options the screen will display up to 32
PostCard titles. Move the light bar to the one you want to Update or
Delete and press the enter key. The [ESC] key will take you back to the
PostCard Menu and the [PgDn] key will bring up the next 32 titles. When the
program reaches the bottom of your file it will start again.

                            -PostCardMaster 7-

You also have the option of looking for a title (This will always be the
last option displayed, so use the [END] key to get to the bottom and return
to select).

Close Nuf':

In the Update, Delete, Find! and Cards & Labels, when you enter the Key,
Salutation. Name, etc you do not have to enter the entire thing. For
example when entering a Name you wish to deal with you do not have to enter
the full name, only the first few words, or even letters. In Update this
will allow you to view all the records that are Close Nuf' to what you
entered. EXAMPLE: Entering "John" will bring up "Johnny", "Johnathan"
,"Billy John Taylor" and "Johnqual"

Addresses:

You can enter a Key (This is 3 alphanumeric characters REL for relative,
BUS for Business etc) , a Salutation (John, Bill, Sir, etc), Name (Brandy
Inc, John Smith), a three line address (Use the first line for Company Name
if you need to), 10 digit Zip Code, Telephone Number and Remarks. Lines
left blank are skipped on print outs.

Any of the address data entry screens shown in Add, Update, or Delete can
be 'zipped' through by hitting the [PgDn] key. The [ESC] key will abort
the screen.

Address Update And Delete:

When you select either of these options the screen will display up to 32
Names. Move the light bar to the one you want to Update or Delete and
press the enter key. The [ESC] key will take you back to the Address Menu
and the [PgDn] key will bring up the next 32 Names. When the program
reaches the bottom of your file it will start again.

You also have the option of looking for a Name (This will always be the
last option displayed, so use the [END] key to get to the bottom and return
to select).

Close Nuf' works here too! (see above)

A Few Things To Keep in Mind:

The Keys can be cumulative. For example you use B for your basketball
team, since you have two squads you use BA for the A team and BB for the B
team. Later, when you print out cards you can select a Key criteria of B
(and get both teams) or BA (for just the A team) or BB ( for just the B
team).

Cards & Labels:

You have a choice of working with all addresses (Compleat) or selecting a

                            -PostCardMaster 8-

Criteria. Criteria will let you choose the Address, Phone, Remarks, Key,
KomboZ, or Selector.

KomboZ:

Selecting this entry on the Criteria screen will let you combine up to four
Criteria. For example you want a listing of all Addresses that are Key B
and the name is Shubert. Select the Key entry from the KomboZ screen, then
type in B next select the Name entry, when you do that you will have a
choice of making the statement And or Or. (Chose And in this example) then
you can enter the Shubert. The program will find all records meeting that
Criteria and take you to the Forms menu. (If you had selected Or in the
above example you would have gotten all records for Key B or anyone named
Shubert. {even those not Key B})

A more complex example would be Key A or Key B and Name S and ZipCode 4.
(You would get all Keys A or B with a name that starts with S and a ZipCode
that begins with 4.)

Selector:

When selecting Individually the screen will display the Names in the file
and you just pick the numbers of the ones you want. Selecting the number a
second time will deselect the address. [PgDn] will bring up the next page,
[PgUp] will take you to the Cards & Labels Menu.

Cards & Labels Menu:

In the lower left corner of the screen the total number of address you are
dealing with will be displayed. This is helpful in determining how many
PostCards, labels, etc to load in the printer.

Output to Printer, File, Screen:

For Listing, Kustom, Samples, and Count Keys you have the option of
printing, sending the output to a file, or viewing on screen. Filenames
used for file output are:

                Listing PCMLIST.TXT
                Samples CARDLIST.TXT
                Kustom List PCMKUST.TXT
                Count Keys PCMKEYS.TXT

Listing:

Provides you with the Name, Key, Address, Telephone Number and Remarks.

Samples:

Kustom List:

Lets you pick the items and the order you want them listed for a print out.
Select items using the light bar, hit [PgDn] when done.

Count Keys (Only if Compleat is selected):

Gives you a listing of every Key you have used in the address file, and how
many addresses have that Key.

Address Labels:

Prints the address info on labels. On the last line, left justified will
be the Key.

PostCards:

Lets you first select the PostCard you want to use, and then displays
the PostCard for you.

Dot Matrix Only: The program will give you the option of printing tests

Return address labels. The program will print from 1 to 99 automatically.

Find!:

You can perform searches on the following items in the address file: Name,
Address, Phone, Remarks, Key or KomboZ (see above). Additionally, you
can Find! text from within any PostCard. You will first be provided with
a screen of all the entries that match what you want to Find!. Select one
using the light bar and hit enter. [PgDn] brings up the next screen, [ESC]
aborts.

Once the first Found! screen appears: hit [PgDn] to Find! the next
record, [PgUp] to go back, [Home] to go to the first record meeting your
Find! criteria and [End] to go to the last and [ESC] to quit. Hitting C
will allow you to change the entry on the screen.

Duplicates:

Using this option from the Find! menu will help you locate duplicate
addresses in your file. It compares the Name, Key and Address line one,
then provides you with a list on screen. To examine the entries, just use
the same steps as you would in a normal Find!, to delete one of the entries
do the following: Select the entry, when it appears on screen, select the
Change option. Blank out the name, then hit the [PgDn] key. When you exit
back to the Find! menu the duplicate record will be deleted.

Utilities:

Indexing:

You can put the file in Name, Zip Code, Key or Telephone Number order by
selecting the appropriate option.

Build For Speed:

Should be run occasionally to keep the file in the best order for speed.

Ghost Buster:

This feature should be run if you get blank records in your data file, by
accident.

Default SetUp:

See above. If you wish to create a new data disk, just blank out the Data
Drive or insert the letter "Z" and then hit the [PgDn] key. You will then
have the opportunity to name a new Data Drive and File Name.

To move your data drive (let's say A to B) you must do the following:

1. Copy the files POST2.DAT, POST2.NTX, CARD.DAT, CARD.DBT and CARD.NTX

                            -PostCardMaster 13-

from A: to B: (ie COPY A:POST2.DAT B:).

2. Enter the program (leaving your old disk in A:) and go to the Default
SetUp menu, then change the Data Drive from A to B, and hit [PgDn].

3. You can now remove the data files from A: and B: is now your data
drive.

Printer SetUp:

This allows you to customize the printer codes used by the program. You
will be asked for the printer type, Laser or Dot Matrix and then for the
codes the printer uses. These codes can be found in your printer manual.

Printer Port:

If you don't know, leave it alone. If you do know enter it, the program
can handle both LPT and COM.

Dot Matrix Printers:

You will need to know the code for 10 cpi (Pica), 12 CPI (Elite), Enlarged,
Condensed (17CPI), Bold On, Bold Off and Double High/Wide. If your printer
cannot handle double high/wide DON'T PANIC, just leave it blank; the
program will use Enlarged for that entry. You do not have to enter the ESC
part of the code, the program will add that automatically. You can enter
the letter ESC code or the number it does not matter: ie ESC code 119 can
be entered as "119" or "w". (Do not enter any " "s!)

Laser Printers:

You will need to know the codes for Clear, 12CPI Pitch, 10CPI Pitch,
Condensed (16.66 CPI), Left Margin, Top Margin, Top Margin 0, Perf Skip
Off, Bold On/Off, Fixed Spacing, 66/60 and 45 Lines Per Page, Landscape &
Portrait Mode, and (if applicable) Duplex Mode. The settings already in the
program use Italics for Bold On and Off and Duplex is empty (off). IF YOU
DO NOT HAVE DUPLEX DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING IN THAT BLOCK OR ERRORS WILL
OCCUR! Remember, you do not have to enter the ESC part of the code, the
program does that for you. ie Your manual calls for an ESC&k2S, you enter
&k2S.

Return Address & Quik Info SetUp:

See above.

Address Import:

This lets you bring in existing address data from other sources and use it
in PostCardMaster. The data must be in pure ASCII and be delimited by "'s.
You will be prompted for the location and file name to import. Remember
to use the extension!, ie IMPORT.TXT.

                            -PostCardMaster 14-

The format and characters used for the import is:

Name 30
Address Line 1 30
Address Line 2 30
Address Line 3 30
Zip Code 10
Salutation 15
Key 3
Phone 12
Remarks 60

Each record needs to be on the same line in the text file!

A sample input file might look like this:

"USL","POB 911","Wabash,IN","","46992","Charles","ZZZ","219/563-HOME",""

**Notice that blank lines still had a "" to mark them!**

Export Address:

Same as import, only in reverse. You will be prompted for the name and
location of the file you wish to contain the exported data. This will
allow you to use the data from PostCardMaster in other programs.

Shell To DOS:

You can exit temporarily to DOS by using this option on the Utilities
Menu. The file COMMAND.COM must be on root directory of the same disk as
the other program files to do this. You must return to the
subdirectory/drive of PostCardMaster prior to entering EXIT to return to
the program.

Restoring From BackUp:

Simply reinstall the software, and then copy the contents of the backup
disk onto your work drive/subdirectory.

Technical Assistance & Latest Versions:

Both registered and unregistered Users can obtain technical assistance by
calling (219) 563-HOME (4663). Unregistered Users will need to provide the
name and address of where they obtained the software from in order to gain
this assistance. This will let us go back to that company if they are
distributing an older version and it helps us track who is distributing the
program. The number is manned (by a human) from 6:00 to 9:00 PM EST, all
other hours by an answering machine.

                                 Upgrades

This version is such a total rewrite from 3.51, that listing all the
changes would take far more space than this file allows. If you are
interested in seeing what is so different, find a copy of PostCardMaster
3.51 and try it for awhile. The program was very popular like it was, but
this version should be even more so.

This is a list for questions asked by users of the program, along with
answers.

Q: It is 2AM, I need to print a batch of cards and the size I have entered
is not the size I have on hand. Help!

A: Go to the Update mode, and change the PostCard size. The existing post
card will realign itself.

Q: I get an error saying that my data file is missing, but it is where it
is supposed to be.

A: You probably do not have the FILES command in your CONFIG.SYS set to at
least 30, or a TSR that you have loaded is using a portion of the files
need for this program.

To check, go to your root directory on your hard drive (CD\, then return)
or put your DOS Disk in your floppy drive and and then enter TYPE
CONFIG.SYS. If you get File Not Found, see below. If you get a display it
might look like this:

                                FILES=20
                                BUFFERS=49
                                DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS

Since the files listed are below 30 you will need to increase the files
value.

The CONFIG.SYS file can be changed with any word processor that will save a
file in ASCII.

Q: I get an error message saying UNDEFINED IDENTIFIER.... what does that
mean?

A: Check your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS for the SHARE.EXE command. If it
is there, it is interfering with PostCardMaster. You may need to increase
your /F:XXXX parameter (See Appendix B), or remove the SHARE command while
running PostCardMaster.

Q: I entered 18 lines on a PostCard that "says" it allows 17, how come my
18th isn't printing?

A: The program will ignore all lines past the size of the card.

Q: I am trying to print TriFolds on a piece of letterhead, but the printing
starts on top of the logo.

A: Go to Update (for the PostCard) and enter a few blank lines at the top.
Check the printing and add/delete lines to suit.

Q: I got some 4X6 PostCards for my dot matrix printer, but when I print the
addresses the Return Address prints over the pre printed word "PostCard".

                               -Appendix A1-

A: You have the option of not printing the Return Address, don't print
it. This option was specifically made for this type of card. Also, if
you need the Return Address to be displayed, enter it in the text of the
card.

Q: I am using pre printed Card Stock for 2 Way Cards and the text of the
card keeps printing on the side marked "Post Card".

A: While these cards work well for regular PostCards, you should use just
plain Card Stock for 2 Way Cards. The reason is the layout, in order for
it to work right it has to print the text and one set of addresses on side
A, and the other text and addresses on the side B. This will allow it
to be folded in half.

Q: My dot matrix printer doesn't have a Double Wide/Double High command.

A: Just use the Enlarged code for that entry or leave it blank.

Q: I have entered "YES" for Duplex, but it is not working.

A: 1. You have to enter the codes for duplex printing to get it to work,
2. Is your printer a Duplex printer? If not the code will not make it
one.

Q: How do I get rid of the "watermark" lines at the end of the page saying
"Unregistered version"?

A: Upon registration those will disappear, along with the registration
reminder screens, and your name will appear on the main screen.

                               -Appendix A2-

PostCardMaster & SHARE.EXE

SHARE.EXE will sometimes cause errors within PostCardMaster if your
/F:XXXX command is not high enough. Some of the errors could be UNDEFINED
IDENTIFIER or TYPE MISMATCH. For systems not running a lot of TSRs and
drivers /F:5000 seems to be high enough. For other systems running TSRs,
or multi tasking software like DesqView, etc. there is a need to increase
the /F:XXXX factor. We have found that the range is usually between
/F:8000 and /F:9000

PostCardMaster & Windows 3.00

PostCardMaster works well with any mode of Windows (Real, Standard or
Enhanced).

First create a new program item and set the command line to
"C:\PCMSTR\PCMSTR.EXE" (use the appropriate drive and path for your
system).

To install the special PostCardMaster icon, use the Program Manager's
File/Properties menu selection. Click on the Change Icon option and type
in the full path name of your new PostCardMaster icon file. There are two
icons supplied: PCMSTR.ICO, the standard PostCardMaster icon, and
UNICORN.ICO, a icon for any Unicorn program. Of course, you can create
your own with any icon editor or select one from any icon collection.

ShareSpell & PostCardMaster:

PostCardMaster will call up ShareSpell to do your spell checking for you,
during the editing of PostCard Text, by hitting the [F10] key.

From the author of ShareSpell (Robert Bequette):

"ShareSpell is a "stand-alone" spelling checker... It is completely
interactive. It will display the text of the file as it goes through the
file, checking for spelling errors. At each word that it thinks is
misspelled, you'll be given the option of replacing the word from a list
of suggested correct spellings, manually correcting it, adding it to the
dictionary, marking it for later correction, or ignoring it throughout the
rest of the document. Currently ShareSpell has a 112,000+ word dictionary"

In order for this option to work, the following must be true:

1. You must have ShareSpell installed on your system, and located in the
same sub directory with PostCardMaster or listed in your PATH statement
(see the ShareSpell documentation for PATH statement instructions).

2. You must not have renamed the program from SS.EXE.

The program costs $20 to register (at the time of this writing) and is
available through most disk vendors and BBSs or contact the author, Robert
Bequette, at:

                            Acropolis Software
                               P.O. Box 5037
                           Fair Oaks, CA 95628

                Or electronically on CompuServe 75146,3471

Other Spell Checkers:

You may choose to use a TSR spelling checker program for your PostCards.
PostCardMaster works with all major TSR programs.

I am still looking for, but have yet to find, a Shareware spell checker
that is a TSR. In the meantime the Borland product Turbo Lightening will
have to fill the gap. Another good product that works well is the American
Heritage Dictionary, from the Writing Tools Group (1-800-523-3520).

Thesaurus:

If you do not have a TSR thesaurus already, I heartily recommend Thesaur
Plus, by fellow ASP author Derrick Burgess. Even if you have a TSR
thesauraus I still recommend that you take a look at Thesaur Plus. What is
Thesaur Plus? In the words of the author:

"Thesaur Plus is a pop-up Thesaurus, whenever you need a different word or
a different shade of meaning than the word that comes to mind, pop-up

                               -Appendix D1-

Thesaur Plus and get just the word you wanted, but couldn't quite
remember!"

It works excellently and has a registration price of only $20 (even less
if you help build it's dictionaries). It can't be beat!

Check with your favourite BBS or disk vendor for the latest version or you
can contact Derrick himself, since he will ALWAYS have the latest version:

                        Derrick Burgess
                        23311 Schoolcraft St.
                        West Hills, CA 91307

He charges $6.00 for the latest version of Thesaur Plus, $5.00 of which
is applied toward registration.
