 THE MECHANICS OF BETTER VISION

For  many  years  it was assumed
that  the  very  small  ring  of
muscle material holding the lens
of  the  eye  in  place was also
responsible  for  focusing   the
eye.  We were quite impressed by
the  strength  of  such  a small
muscle - to be able  to  stretch

    Eventually, cataract surgery
-  total  removal  of the lens -
became   common.     When    the
patients  could often see fairly
well  without  a  lens,  and  of
course  without  the use of this
