Digital Imaging Cameras

April 22, 1996 -- WPI offers an affordable shortcut to digitizing images
for computer use, Digital Imaging Cameras (DIC). Using a solid state CCD,
these tiny cameras dispense with conventional photo processing and
eliminate the need for expensive television cameras and digital frame
grabber combinations. Readily obtain still or moving images through a
microscope or photographic mount the camera to a copy stand. Standard
lenses are available for non-microscopic images.

DIC-L, new to this CCD camera series, features particularly low noise
levels and high resolution. Low noise, high quantum efficiency and long
exposure times offer dramatic improvements in low light imaging compared
with standard video cameras and frame grabbers.

DIC-U, WPI's ultra high resolution camera, also features low noise and long
exposure times, but it is the high resolution (1134 x 486 pixels), that
makes this particular camera superior for detailed image requirements.

Cameras are controlled by simple computer commands and images can be saved
using common picture formats such as; TIFF, BMP, TARGA, AND PCX.
Resolution as high as 751 x 488 pixels is possible in interlace mode and
crisp real-time graphic to errors in lighting or exposure. Available
routines let you develop programs in C, Fortran, and Pascal for tasks such
as; converting formats, asynchronous triggering, subarray scanning, time
delay and integration.
