MOTIVE 5.0 TO BE REVEALED AT DAC

Newest Version of Industry DeFacto Standard Timing Analysis Tool Offers
Larger Capacity, New Levels of Interactivity and Flexibility

CAMARILLO, CALIF. -- MAY 20, 1996 -- Viewlogic Systems' Quad Design Group,
a leading supplier of high performance design analysis tools, announced a
significantly new version of MOTIVE today. MOTIVE Version 5.0 reads and
preserves hierarchical netlist information, thereby giving designers a
highly flexible and powerful timing analysis environment. It gives users
the freedom to interactively evaluate different design implementations and
dynamically change timing analysis parameters and assumptions. MOTIVE 5.0
provides timing model generation up to 20x faster than on previous product
versions.

MOTIVE 5.0 reads hierarchical netlists and maintains all hierarchical names
and information while allowing assertions such as MCPs and constants on
hierarchical pins. Netlists can be re-read for any level of the hierarchy;
clock reference files can be changed and re-read; and analysis parameters
such as clock cycle times can be changed. Since users can now quickly and
interactively change netlists and parameters, they can efficiently explore
alternative implementations and effectively manage and control the timing
analysis of their designs.

MOTIVE 5.0 includes new "Advisor" technology that supports customizable
flow management and netlist translation, and provides user guidance that
enables users to create integrated flows around their methodology. The
Advisors are separate applications that integrate tightly with MOTIVE.
Version 5.0 includes a TCL/TK-based hierarchy browser and a Set-Up Advisor
that simplifies the setup of Verilog-based designs.

Other features of MOTIVE 5.0 include the support of new and powerful
extensions to MOTIVE's MCP language as well as the Synopsys dc_shell
constraint translation, which has input and output delays and multi-cycle
path features.

"Since MOTIVE today routinely handles million-gate class designs, by
leveraging the hierarchical capabilities of MOTIVE 5.0, we plan to be
ready and able to analyze 100 million gate designs by the end of the
century," stated Chuck White, Quad group's vice president of timing
analysis. "The native hierarchy support and high interactivity of MOTIVE
5.0 is an architectural foundation for future enhancements in higher level
reporting, advanced advisor technology, dynamic optimization and what-if
analysis."

MOTIVE 5.0 will be shown for the first time at the 1996 Design Automation
Conference, June 2-6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is scheduled to be available
in beta quantities in June and to begin production shipping in September.
Network pricing starts at $36,000. Customers under maintenance will
automatically receive MOTIVE 5.0 at no charge. MOTIVE 5.0 is fully
backward compatible with all existing MOTIVE 4.x libraries and databases.
