Second Generation 30-bit Large Document Scanner Improves Color Image
Quality

Herndon, VA, March 15, 1996...Vidar Systems Corporation today introduced
TruScan Spectra, a 30-bit large-document color scanner. TruScan Spectra
dramatically improves the color fidelity available to users in the
printing, publishing, reprographics and GIS industries.

Using 30-bit color scanning, TruScan Spectra extracts the detail from
light, dark, and midtone areas, precisely reproducing the colors of the
original. Further, improvements to Vidar's scanner control software enable
users to quickly and automatically narrow the color palette, enabling them
to more accurately differentiate between similar colors and reduce the
size of the digital image file.

"The TruScan Spectra provides the best color selection and scanning
solution available in the marketplace for its price," said Lee Bisson,
TruScan Spectra product manager. "By increasing the color depth from 24 to
30 bits, we provide the color accuracy demanded by graphics professionals
in industries such as printing and publishing."

TruScan Spectra comes complete with a SCSI interface and either Microsoft
Windows- or UNIX-compatible control software. The software allows color
selection, white/black point setting, gamma correction and other
image-enhancing capabilities. Additionally, the software now supports
Intergraph's RLE file format.

For customers in the U.S., the TruScan Spectra is priced at $39,995 and is
backed by a 12-month warranty that includes a three-month on-site or
advanced replacement policy. Owners of the CS400, Vidar's previous
generation 24-bit color scanner, may purchase an upgrade kit to convert to
the 30-bit TruScan Spectra.

Vidar is a leading supplier of scanners and film digitizers. The TruScan
line of large-format scanners are designed for continuous use in
commercial operations handling a high volume of different types of
documents. TruScan scanners reliably capture maps, engineering drawings,
and other kinds of wide-format documents at resolutions ranging from .75
to 1600 dots-per-inch. In addition to the TruScan line of monochrome,
grayscale, and color large-document scanners, Vidar manufactures X-ray
film digitizers for medical and scientific applications, as well as an
automatic aperture card scanner for document management applications.
