LENEXA, KANSAS, MAY 28, 1996 - Visual Components, Inc. (VCI), a
wholly-owned subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., today announced licensing
arrangements and custom development alliances with Netscape Communications
Corporation, Borland International and Powersoft. These agreements,
combined with previously announced technology agreements with Lotus
Development Corporation, Corel Corporation and Micrografx, Inc., firmly
establish VCI as a leading provider of component-based software technology
for leading software companies.

Visual Components also recently announced three new products: WebViewer, a
web-browsing control; VisualWriter, an RTF-based text-editing component;
and CodeBank, a code library and repository for Visual Basic developers.

LICENSING ARRANGEMENTS

Visual Components licensing arrangements include:

* NETSCAPE COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION: Incorporates VCI's Formula One/NET
spreadsheet plug-in into Power Pack 2.0, Netscape's collection of
companion utilities and plug-ins for Netscape Navigator for Windows.

* BORLAND INTERNATIONAL: Licenses OEM editions of the Formula One
spreadsheet, the First Impression charting and business graphics component
and VisualSpeller, a 100,000-word, multi-language dictionary, for its
Delphi 2.0 visual development system, Paradox 7.0 database and Borland C++
5.0 products.

and VisualSpeller with PowerBuilder 5.0, its market-leading application
development tool, and will ship the same components with the upcoming
Professional and Enterprise editions of Optima++, its C++ component-based
RAD tool.

* LOTUS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION: Has licensed and adapted Formula One and
First Impression for the spreadsheet and charting modules in Lotus
Components, a line of task-focused software modules that extend the
capabilities of Lotus Notes, Release 4.0.

* COREL CORPORATION: Licenses Formula One for CorelDRAW6, an integrated
suite of native 32-bit multimedia applications for Windows 95. Formula One
forms the data engine behind the charting module CorelPRESENTS, a business
and multimedia presentation application.

* MICROGRAFX, INC.: Utilizes Visual Components' Formula One and First
Impression offerings as the data grid and charting engine for the ABC
FlowCharter module of its ABC Graphics Suite. ABC FlowCharter enables
users to create flowcharts and to analyze process flows in real time.

According to Evan Quinn, research manager at International Data Corporation
in Framingham, Mass., "These new alliances illustrate VCI's bandwidth to
push component adoption beyond object standards out to strategic
applications. This underscores VCI's position as a leader in the
components marketplace."

"Sybase acquired Visual Components with the goals of accelerating the
adoption of components among application developers and establishing VCI
as the de facto standard supplier to the component marketplace," said Tom
DeBacco, president of Visual Components. "We believe our current
partnerships with leading vendors and comprehensive product portfolio are
proof points that we are well on our way to achieving these goals."
