Lincoln, MA. USA. Unica Technologies, Inc. announces a new addition to
their line of Pattern Recognition Workbench software. The newest member,
PRW PRO+ adds C source code generation, DLL access to user functions and
trained experiments, and automated searches for input features and
algorithm parameters to its powerful package with a proprietary
spreadsheet for fast, interactive data processing, and an "experiment
manager" that manages complex data-driven modeling and pattern
classification experiments. Once models are built, the user has great
flexibility in deploying a solution---from generating C code for seamless
integration into custom code to DLL subroutine calls from custom code or
other Windows applications.

PRW spreadsheets can handle 16,000 columns by 16 million rows of data.
Large data sets can be interactively visualized in graphs and preprocessed
using over one hundred built-in macro functions. Experiment managers
provide a step-by-step guide to set up experiments, using statistical,
machine learning, and neural network algorithms. These experiments also
can be validated using cross validation, bootstrap, and slide-window
validation techniques. Users can build their own formulas as well as
"trained" algorithms into custom macro functions for use in the
spreadsheets.

Using historical data to analyze and improve data models is a very powerful
technique. However, the complex task of implementing this technology,
which requires expertise from statistics, computer science, system
integration, and software engineering, is often prohibitive for many
companies. "Major companies that can afford the startup cost of this
technology are profiting from their investment everyday," says Unica's
marketing manager, Scott Sassone. "PRW can match, and even surpass, the
competitive edge of these proprietary systems at a hundredth of the
cost."

PRW dramatically improves productivity. Drew Hanson, Sr. Derivative Analyst
of Compass Bank, says "What I am most impressed with PRW is how simple it
is to process data using the spreadsheet and perform highly complex
statistical validation tests, such as cross validation and bootstrap
validation." Hanson, who is using PRW to generate proprietary pricing
models for mortgage-backed securities, explains "This product lets me
concentrate on solving the problem... It's an incredible improvement over
trying to juggle spreadsheets, statistical packages, toy neural network
products, and C compilers!"

PRW products are available for PCs running Windows, Windows NT, or Windows
95. Pricing starts at $995.00.
