TREND MICRO RELEASES INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL - SERVER-BASED VIRUS PROTECTION
FOR THE INTERNET GATEWAY

ANTI-VIRUS DEVELOPER KITS ALSO ANNOUNCED.

CUPERTINO, CA, APRIL 30, 1996 - Trend Micro Incorporated today released
INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL, a first-of-its-kind software that protects local area
networks (LANs) from computer viruses carried over the Internet and in
e-mail attachments.

The unique server-based solution is designed to intercept e-mail
attachments and downloaded files at the gateway between LANs and the
Internet - a new location for anti-virus software and one of the earliest
points possible for virus detection. This technology is a response to new
generation macro viruses that have made common e-mail attachments the
major virus threat to corporations and governments using the Internet.

Trend Micro also announced the availability of eight new anti-virus
developer kits as part of the company's Security Partners program. The
developer kits consist of a powerful virus detection engine combined with
API's for Windows NT and seven UNIX operating systems.

"Until now, virus protection has been the missing link in Internet
security," said Trend Micro president Daniel Chiang. "Using the Internet
no longer requires companies to expose themselves to malicious code like
viruses."

The release of INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL comes at a time when virus infection of
corporate networks is at an all-time high, mainly due to the spread of the
Word.Concept macro virus. A study by the National Computer Security
Association released in early April found that 9 out of 10 large companies
in America had been infected by a virus in the month of February alone.

Chiang said that the number of vendors requesting anti-virus protection for
their applications has prompted the creation of Trend's Security Partners
program and the developers' kits. Trend Micro will post on its Web site
evaluation copies of developer kits for Solaris (for both Sparc and Intel
x86 platforms), UnixWare, SCO Unix and BSDI. Kits for Windows NT and HP-UX
will be available shortly.

INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL is initially available for Sun Solaris running on Sparc
workstations. An NT version will be available in June and the product will
be ported to other UNIX operating systems soon afterward. It is priced on
a per user basis, starting at $995 for a 50-user license.

INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL scans both File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and Simple Mail
Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic passing through gateway servers in real
time. It scans both UUENCODE and MIME formatted e-mail attachments as well
as most compressed files. INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL is the first of several new
anti-virus products to be developed by Trend Micro in response to the new
virus threat posed by e-mail transmitted viruses and exploding Internet
use.

INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL can either delete infected files automatically, or
store them in a temporary file for cleaning by the LAN administrator. It
automatically notifies the system administrator and intended e-mail
recipient of any infected files. It also can scan the entire gateway
server at pre-scheduled times, keep a detailed log of any virus activity
and report the source of any infected files.

"The virus war has entered a new stage," said Chiang. "Macro viruses
infecting Microsoft Word documents and other everyday files has made
e-mail the new medium of infection. It's as if viruses have taken to the
air while traditional virus defenses have remained rooted to the ground."

Trend Micro will release E-MAIL VIRUSWALL for SMTP mail servers in May. In
June, the company will release SCANMAIL FOR CC:MAIL, client software that
runs on Windows 3.x, Windows 95 and Windows NT workstations and uses
messaging technology to scan and stop infected e-mail attachments the
instant they arrive at the mail server. Additional versions of SCANMAIL
created for MICROSOFT MAIL and LOTUS NOTES will be released in the third
quarter of 1996.

Trend Micro (formerly Trend Micro Devices) announced recently that it had
entered into agreements with six firewall vendors to ensure that their
products are compatible with INTERSCAN VIRUSWALL. Those companies include
Border Network Technologies, Inc., CheckPoint Software Technologies, Ltd.,
Harris Computer Systems, Mergent International, Raptor Systems and Trusted
Information Systems.

Trend Micro is a leading supplier of anti-virus solutions. Trend Technology
is in Intel's LANDesk Virus Protect, and in PC-cillin 95, a best-selling
workstation anti-virus sold in retail stores by TouchStone Software Corp.
More than 7 million users worldwide are protected by Trend Technology.
