TOSHIBA INTRODUCES WORLD'S FIRST LCD PROJECTOR WITH BUILT-IN DOCUMENT
CAMERA

-- TOSHIBA MEDIASTAR 311 MERGES COMPUTER DATA, VIDEO AND 3-D LIVE GRAPHICS
FOR MORE CREATIVE, INTERACTIVE PRESENTATIONS --

CHICAGO, May 1, 1996 -- Toshiba America today announced the introduction of
a major breakthrough in multimedia presentation technology -- the world's
first self-contained LCD projector with a built-in document camera.

The ultimate presentation tool, the Toshiba MediaStarx 311 Multimedia LCD
Projector combines the traditional functionality of computer and video
image sourcing with a new document camera that works as an on-board opaque
projector. The camera, included for the first time ever in an LCD
projector, enables MediaStar 311 users to seamlessly integrate
3-dimensional product demonstrations and live on-screen note writing into
any full-motion multimedia presentation.

Other advanced features of the Toshiba MediaStar 311 include:

* an ultra-bright 375 ANSI Lumens Optical System for superior
  images, even in fully lit rooms;
* four input channels offering PC and MAC II compatibility, and
  acceptance of S-Video, NTSC, PAL, SECAM and NTSC 4.43 video
  standards;
* a compact, lightweight (22.9 lbs) design for easy portability
  and storage;
* an active matrix polysilcon TFT LCD panel that generates
  16.7 million rich, saturated colors in full 640x480 (VGA)
  resolution;
* and infrared remote control of volume levels and other functions,
  such as the instantaneous switching from one multimedia device to
  another.

NEW ELEMENT TO THE MEDIA MIX

Toshiba incorporated a high resolution document camera into the MediaStar
311 to enable users to communicate more effectively and efficiently. Now,
along with full-motion video and computer-generated graphics, the
presenter can display 3-D objects, charts, graphics and text, just by
placing them under the camera. Images can be projected from a 22.5-inch
diagonal to a 25-foot (300-inch) diagonal up on any wall or screen.

Use of the document camera is especially beneficial in longer presentations
where variety is a must, as well as in training and sales situations that
call for in-depth product demonstrations. What's more, having the document
camera on-hand makes it easy to answer those "out-of-the-blue" questions
that often come up in the middle of a presentation.

The MediaStar 311 document camera is built into a low-profile swing arm
attached to the side of the LCD body. The camera arm flips up when needed.
At only 12-inches tall, the arm remains unobtrusive during presentations.
While not in use, it fits neatly down to the side.

BRINGING IT TOGETHER

Windowsr-based and Macintoshr desktop computers, notebooks and
sub-notebooks are directly connected to the MediaStar 311, along with PAL,
S-Video and composite video sources, including VCRs, camcorders and laser
discs.

The on-board speaker is powered by a state-of-the-art 1.5w audio amplifier.
Left and right audio output jacks drive external speakers for rich,
vibrant stereo sound.

The MediaStar 311 comes complete with power cord, VGA and A/V cables, and
MAC adapter. An optional carrying case and ceiling mount are offered. The
MediaStar will be sold through authorized Toshiba dealers beginning in
May, 1996, at a suggested list price of $10,495.
