Software AG Announces Strategy to Address Year 2000 Issues

INSIGHT 2000 Provides Total Program; Agreement with Avatar Solutions on
Impact Assessment

RESTON, VA., MAY 20, 1996 -- Software AG today announced INSIGHT 2000, a
strategy designed to provide a comprehensive solution to the Year 2000
problem, which threatens to create havoc in the business community at the
turn of this century when system and applications software may fail
because they were developed with 2-digit date codes instead of the 4-digit
field required after year 2000. INSIGHT 2000 is a complete package of
software tools and consulting services designed to help organizations
identify and quickly resolve these issues.

INSIGHT 2000 uses a three-step methodology to address the major phases in
resolving the Year 2000 issue: inventory, analysis and remediation. The
inventory phase determines the size of the problem; the analysis phase
determines approaches to solve the problem; and the remediation phase
implements the solution. Software AG consultants will be working with
prime partners and best-of-breed tools for each phase of the program.

As part of INSIGHT 2000, Software AG also announced a 3-year agreement with
Avatar Solutions of Vienna, Va., to provide technology in the area of
impact assessment. Using Avatar's Avatar2000 workstation, Software AG can
rapidly provide a complete assessment of the extent of an organization's
problems by assessing all database elements and source code so that they
can be mapped, analyzed and presented.

"Companies are aware of the Year 2000 problem, but are still grappling with
the size and complexity of the issue," said Jon Church, general manager of
INSIGHT Consulting, a management consulting subsidiary of Software AG of
North America. "With INSIGHT 2000, we offer a customer-focused program
designed to help organizations successfully solve their Year 2000
problems. Through our partnership with Avatar Solutions, we offer a unique
approach to determining the magnitude of the problem and simulating how
its resolution will affect current business operations. Our primary goal
is to rapidly and accurately complete this impact assessment as a critical
first step in setting expectations of the scope of a Year 2000 project."

"We are proud to be partnering with SOFTWARE AG to provide this combination
of superior technology with consulting services and deliver a complete
solution to our customers," said Ed Knauf, CEO of Avatar Solutions.

In addition, Software is establishing a Millenium Center in Denver, Colo.,
that will open by January 1, 1997, to provide remediation services so
customers can repair, replace, reengineer or implement third-party
software as the final state of the solution. The Center will provide a
multi-platform, heterogeneous environment so that a wide range of
technologies are available for application evaluation and repair. In
addition, this center will be linked with Software AG's support, product
quality and assurance, and R&D organizations based in Denver, to provide a
broad base of expertise. This combination of cross-platform support and
technical capability will provide solutions for mainframe, Unix and
PC-based applications.

Software AG began evaluating its product lines 18 months ago, and rolled
out an aggressive plan for Year 2000 compliance. Many of its products are
already Year 2000 compliant, with the goal of full compliance across all
product lines by December 1997.

INSIGHT 2000 projects are already in progress within Software AG's customer
base, and will be introduced in July through a nationwide, 9-city "INSIGHT
2000" seminar series. Pricing for the INSIGHT 2000 impact assessment
starts at $10,000, and ranges upwards based on the lines of code
processed. For more information, call 1-800-843- 9534 ext. 150 or access
