SUNSOFT UNVEILS MESSAGING AND DIRECTORY TELECOMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS

X.400 and X.500 services, based on industry standards

MENLO PARK, CA - MAY 14, 1996 - SunSoft Inc., the Internet software
company, today announced advanced Solstice X.400 Messaging Products and
Solstice X.500 Directory Products. These telecommunications products
provide a complete high-end messaging and directory solution, based on
ITU-T/IETF standards.

Solstice X.400 Messaging products allow companies to set up global
messaging networks for business critical applications such as electronic
data interchange. Based on ITU-T and IETF standards, Solstice X.400
Messaging Products provide easy to use, reliable, scalable and secure
messaging solutions.

A client toolkit facilitates the development of mail-enabled applications
based on X/Open APIs, and an Internet adapter enables multimedia mail to
be exchanged between Solstice X.400 and Internet users. Solstice X.400
supports a wide range of desktop clients, including MS-Windows clients. A
new enterprise manager messaging application allows a Solstice X.400
backbone to be centrally managed, using simple point and click
operations.

"Solstice X.400 Messaging products will be of particular interest to
telecommunication companies implementing value-added networks, as well as
Global 2000 corporations building an enterprise messaging infrastructure,"
said Jean-Pierre Baudouin, Director of SunSoft's Telecommunications
Products.

Solstice X.500 Directory Products allow companies to build a
standards-based, distributed directory which offers a common storage space
for data. Users and applications can use the directory to locate and
access information from anywhere on the network.

Solstice X.500 Directory Products provide multipurpose client-server
directory services, which allow distributed storage of any kind of data
object. Solstice X.500 Directory Products can be used, for example, to
create corporate directories which store the profiles of networked people
and resources, so that network users can look up the address of a
correspondent without knowing his or her physical location. Such
directories are useful for enterprise messaging, network management and
security applications, providing for example, distributed storage of
public keys for encryption systems.

"X.500 is the preferred choice for large, complex, distributed directory
systems," said Baudouin. Both Solstice X.400 and X.500 are Internet-ready,
supporting TCP/IP directly. They are available immediately, for SPARC and
Solaris x86 platforms. Prices start at $3,995.
