Netscape Turns to Sequent Computer Systems for High Capacity Server
Technology

Sequent's Internet Accelerator gives tremendous boost to Netscape's service
by doubling capacity and increasing the speed of downloads

BEAVERTON, ORE. - MAY 9, 1996 - In a move to meet increasing customer
demand for its Internet client and server software products and new
release schedules, Sequent Computer Systems today announced that Netscape
Communications Corporation of Mountain View, CA (NASDAQ:NSCP), has
purchased two Internet Accelerators , Sequent's new high-end Internet
technology. Based on Sequent's Symmetry 5000 servers, the Internet
Accelerators are being used as FTP (file transfer protocol) servers, a
vital component of Netscape's software distribution model in the open
system environment of the Internet.

"We were facing an enormous download demand. We needed to immediately
quadruple the number of users that could retrieve our client software off
the net," said Robert Andrews, webmaster at Netscape. "By adding just one
Internet Accelerator , we have doubled our capacity and at the same time
have increased the speed of downloads. The increased capacity and speed
give a tremendous boost to the services we provide."

To date, two Sequent Internet Accelerators have been installed at Netscape.
According to Phil Hochstetler, chief technologist of Sequent's Internet
Technologies Group, the new FTP servers can individually serve up to 3,000
simultaneous users with room for expansion. Peak loads have pushed
capacity to as high as 4,600 simultaneous users. Previously, Netscape was
only able to serve a maximum of 2,750 simultaneous users on 11 smaller,
slower machines.

"Doing business over the Internet represents one of the most important
technology trends to be dealt with in this decade. Distributing software
products via the 'Net' is vital to Netscape's business model," said Gary
Smaby, president of the Smaby Group, a leading technology and financial
consulting firm based in Minneapolis. "High capacity, reliable servers,
such as the Sequent system now being used by Netscape, will play a key
role in helping organizations meet the increasing demand for customer
on-line access."
