SPECTRUM HOLOBYTE, INC. TO BRING SMASH FEATURE FILM STAR TREK GENERATIONS
TO COMPUTER SCREENS

FILM STARS WILLIAM SHATNER, PATRICK STEWART AND MALCOLM MCDOWELL TO
CONTRIBUTE CHARACTER VOICES TO WINDOWS 95 CD-ROM

ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO, LOS ANGELES, MAY 16, 1996 -- In an
interactive gaming first, leading entertainment software company Spectrum
HoloByte, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBYT) delivers the two captains of the STAR TREK
U.S.S. ENTERPRISE in one exciting game. Based on the internationally
successful feature film STAR TREK GENERATIONS, players assume the role of
multiple STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION characters, such as Captain
Jean-Luc Picard, who assumed the helm in the popular syndicated television
series, as well as James T. Kirk, the original commander of the U.S.S.
ENTERPRISE. The game is also in development for the PlayStation game
console.

In order to enhance the gaming experience, Star Trek Generations will
feature the character voices of several of the movie cast members,
including William Shatner and Patrick Stewart, who portray Captains Kirk
and Picard, and Malcolm McDowell as Soran, the evil scientist bent on
intergalactic destruction. The game will also feature the voices of all
principal actors in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION.

The game will be a mix of first-person action sequences, challenging
ship-to-ship battles, strategy sessions in stellar cartography and
original cinematic sequences, all inspired by the hit movie and created
using the latest 3-D technologies. The story line of the game will be
closely tied to the STAR TREK GENERATIONS film, in which Kirk and Picard
join forces to defeat Soran. The game will also include realistic STAR
TREK graphics, music and sound effects, in order to further incorporate
the look and feel of the movie within the game.

We were impressed by the fact that the film appealed to more than Trekkers,
and we plan to capture this broader audience as well, said Louis Gioia,
Jr., chief marketing officer of Spectrum HoloByte, Inc. Joining the
original STAR TREK and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION does give us two
built-in advantages, but the story line and exciting gameplay are what
will attract the larger universe of computer game enthusiasts.

GAME SUMMARY

Star Trek Generations will switch between fast-paced, first-person games,
exciting tactical space encounters, and challenging strategy sessions in
stellar cartography in which players battle the evil Soran across many
different worlds. In the space encounters, players will take command of
the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE and its defense when the ship comes under attack
from rebel Klingons and other marauding aliens in a variety of heavily
armed warbirds. Stunning cinematic sequences laced throughout the game tie
the action together and advance the story line.

The PlayStation game console version will take advantage of the systems
unique features. The games exciting first-person action missions and space
combat sequences will be enhanced by the PlayStation game consoles 3-D
graphics capabilities, more ship types and ships per battle, and more
intense, arcade-style action. In addition, the unique control pad key
combinations will allow players to more precisely maneuver the
Enterprise.
