SAMSUNG INTRODUCES FULLY FEATURED EIGHT-SPEED CD-ROM DRIVE

April 25, 1996 -- RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ -- Samsung Electronics America's
Information Systems Division introduces its first 8x CD-ROM drive as part
of its continued effort to meet the demands of the optical storage market.
The new 8x CD-ROM drive (model SCR-830) is currently shipping to OEMs,
system integrators and distributors.

According to Calvin Kim, Samsung's Manager for Storage Products, "Samsung
entered the CD-ROM market with a quad-speed product in 1995. Rather than
follow the market with a six-speed drive, we want to take a leading
position in the high performance eight-speed marketplace."

Samsung's 8x CD-ROM drive is MPC Level 3 compliant and features an ATAPI
(enhanced-IDE) interface. The Plug and Play, Windows 95 and OS/2
compatible drive has an average seek time of 145ms, and a cache memory
capacity of 128KB. The drive utilizes many Samsung-designed components,
including the spindle-motor and optical pick up devices. The SCR-830
delivers true eight-speed performance with a sustained data transfer rate
of 1.2MB/sec and supports host transfer rates up to 11.1 MB/sec, via PIO
mode 3.

In addition to standard CD-ROM and CD Audio discs, the SCR-830 drive is
compatible with CD Plus and single and multisession PHOTO-CD discs. The
drive is also XA, CD-I/DV and Video CD ready. For personal audio use, it
features a headphone jack, volume control and a quick audio CD play
button, which allows users to control and to listen to audio CDs without
software.

The SCR-830 has an MTBF rating of 125,000 hours. It comes with a one year
warranty that includes Samsung's toll-free service and support 24-hours a
day, seven days a week. The MSRP for the SCR-830 CD-ROM drive is $299.
