RAD's New ASM-32 Modem Combines Two Full Duplex Links on a Single Pair of
Wires

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL. , 1996 -- RAD Data Communications today announced the
ASM-32, a dual-port 2-wire modem that enable two pairs of users data
equipment to communicate full duplex over the Local Loop.

ONE PRODUCT, TWO DIFFERENT MODEM LINKS

The two independent Async/Sync channels operate at selectable data rates,
from 1.2 kbps up to 64 kbps. "The major advantage of the ASM-32's two
ports is simultaneous full duplex operation of two different data
communication devices over two wires," explains Nir Cohen, Product Manager
for High Speed Modems. "For instance, connection between two routers
operating sync at 64 kbps on one channel while a PC transmits to a host at
9.6 async on another channel".

INSTALLATION SAVINGS AND EFFICIENT OPERATION

"The main benefit for users is a more efficient transmission system since
users require only a single link to connect two pairs of equipment," adds
Cohen. "This saves on WAN costs." Utilizing standard ISDN technology, the
ASM-32 operates as a point-to-point link, or as a tailend application of a
digital network.

SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE, EVEN OVER LOW QUALITY LINES

Using 2B1Q line coding, the ASM-32 provides an operating range of up to 8
km (5 miles) over 24 AWG cable, independent of the data rate. The line
interface includes an adaptive equalizer that offers noise immunity and
higher performance, even over low quality lines.

"The performance of the ASM-32 is excellent compared to other 2-wire modems
on the market", states Cohen. "It will complete RAD's product range for
2-wire modem solutions up to 128 kbps. The range is particularly
significant as carriers and service providers clearly prefer 2-wire
solutions because of their more effective utilization of cabling", he
says.

An internal 511-bit, test pattern generator is available in each port to
diagnose the ports and main link connections. Six different V.54 loopbacks
check each port or main link integrity. ASM-32 users can select a
V.24/RS-232, V.35, V.36, RS-530, X.21 or G.703 Co-directional (64 kbps)
digital interface.

RAD Data Communications designs, manufactures and markets a broad range of
high quality product solutions for LAN/WAN applications. RAD is a member
of the $170 million RAD Group of companies, a world leader in networking
and internetworking product solutions.
