QUALCOMM Opens Eudora to Developers with new Extended Messaging Services
API

EUDORA ESTABLISHES BASIS FOR HUMAN LANGUAGE TRANSLATION, MESSAGE
COMPRESSION AND IMAGE CONVERSION AS WELL AS E-MAIL SECURITY VIA NEW API

ANAHEIM - April 30, 1996 - QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), a leader in
wireless communications and advanced electronic messaging solutions for
the Internet, today announced an Extended Messaging Services Application
Programming Interface (EMSAPI) for the development of plug-in modules for
the Company's forthcoming Eudora Pro 3.0 electronic mail products.

The new EMSAPI is designed to support a variety of applications including
human language translation, compression, image format conversion, content
analysis, and data security services. This will allow third-party software
vendors to leverage Eudora Pro software's large installed base as it
upgrades to version 3.0 later this year. A software developer's toolkit
(SDK) to assist in building modules that integrate with Eudora Pro
software via the EMSAPI will be made available by QUALCOMM to interested
third-party developers at no cost.

Currently, the Eudora software family is the most popular e-mail package
for electronic messaging on the Internet and other TCP/IP networks with
millions of users worldwide. This new API provides independent developers
with a unique opportunity to increase their own user base via the
development of plug-in messaging services or modules for Eudora Pro.
Applications that will initially support Eudora Pro's Extended Messaging
Services API which include natural human language translation from
GlobaLink; data security software providing encryption, digital
signatures, and automated key management from Entrust of Northern Telecom
Ltd.; fully-animated multimedia E-mail products from Greet Street; offline
search, retrieval, and group collaboration tools from ForeFront; and
Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) data security software from Viacrypt.

"QUALCOMM is highly-regarded as the leading developer of Internet e-mail
software and we recognize that there are numerous technologies in
existence that potentially add significant value for users of our
applications," said Tracy Crowe, senior product marketing manager for
QUALCOMM. "Fulfilling the promise of multimedia e-mail requires the active
participation of third party developers. Their products can help people
create and render information in different media. Our EMSAPI will permit a
wide variety of third parties to leverage our installed base by allowing
innovative extensions to the world's best Internet mail package."

Developers interested in adapting or creating plug-in messaging services
for Eudora Pro software can obtain the EMSAPI SDK directly from QUALCOMM
by sending an electronic mail request to phutchison@qualcomm.com. The SDK
is currently in beta testing for Eudora Pro 3.0 beta software for
Macintosh.
