PROXIM INTRODUCES RANGELAN2 RS-232 SERIAL WIRELESS OEM ADAPTER

Forms New Technical Services Group to Support OEM Design and Integration
Efforts

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., MAY 13, 1996 -- Proxim, Inc., a leading supplier of
wireless data communications products, announced today a wireless OEM
adapter module with an RS-232 serial interface that is designed for
integration into handheld computer systems and other peripheral devices.
Proxim also announced the formation of an OEM Services Group that will
help customers integrate Proxim's wireless LAN technology into their
products.

Building on its position as the leading provider of wireless LAN OEM
products, Proxim introduced the RangeLAN2 OEM Serial adapter to supplement
its existing family of credit-card sized ISA and PCMCIA OEM modules. The
new RangeLAN2 OEM Serial adapter is a miniaturized 3.75"x 2.2"x 0.36" card
weighing only 1.5 ounces that delivers the complete wireless LAN
functionality of Proxim's award-winning RangeLAN2 technology. RangeLAN2 is
a 2.4 GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum radio frequency (RF) system
that provides the optimum combination of throughput, coverage, scalability
and interference immunity, as well as industry-leading roaming and power
management features.

"RangeLAN2 has already been adopted by more than 50 mobile computer systems
manufacturers and application solution providers," said Brian Button, vice
president of Marketing at Proxim. "However, to date, this technology was
not available for products that required a serial interface. The new OEM
Serial adapter is ideal for a wide range of handheld terminals, printers,
barcode scanners and other data collection devices that already support
RS-232."

OEM SERVICES GROUP

Proxim created the OEM Services Group to provide technical consulting to
the increasing number of companies integrating RangeLAN2 wireless LAN
technology into mobile computer platforms and other wireless LAN
peripheral devices. The group allows OEM customers to leverage Proxim's
extensive technical experience in RF design and integration.

"Proxim has always focused on meeting the integration needs of companies
that design wireless mobile computing devices and solutions," said Tim
Carey, director of OEM Services at Proxim. "It is this commitment that led
us to form a group dedicated to providing the technical consulting
services needed to assist our OEM partners' integration efforts and
accelerate their time to market."
