Configuration Management Tool Facilitates Enterprise Team Development for
the PROGRESS Application Development Environment

Bedford, Mass., May 22, 1996 -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ:
PRGS) today announced the immediate availability of Roundtable Total
Software Management System for the PROGRESS Application Development
Environment (ADE). Roundtable is a robust, graphical enterprise-class
software configuration management (SCM) tool that promotes efficient
development of large, component-based, client/server applications in a
team environment. Developed in the PROGRESS 4GL, Roundtable Version 8,
which is compatible with PROGRESS Version 7 and 8, is available as a
standalone product from Progress Software or as part of Progress
Software's Enterprise ProVISION product and runs on Microsoft Windows,
Windows NT and Windows 95.

Roundtable improves product quality and controls the costs of engineering,
maintaining and deploying enterprise client/server applications by
automating the entire change management process from project definition
through application deployment. Roundtable helps coordinate team
development projects by allowing managers to define tasks, assign them to
team members and track their status. In addition, Roundtable controls
workflow and change notification within the development team, even if
geographically dispersed.

Leslie J. Clark, II, of MEI Software Systems, a reseller based in Reston,
Virginia, said, "We use the Roundtable repository to manage 300,000
objects. It has vastly improved our tracking and management of application
changes. Roundtable helps us ensure that all changes are tested and
documented, and it automatically delivers these changes to our customers.
With it, we've achieved impressive gains in product quality and developer
productivity."

Roundtable Features and Benefits

In addition to basic SCM features such as check in/check out and version
control, Roundtable provides:

DEPLOYMENT AUTOMATION -- Roundtable's most unique and powerful feature, the
product allows users to track which versions of their application are
installed at specific sites and automatically packages and deploys all the
changed objects, along with the scripts to install the changes, at any
site. This feature eliminates days or weeks of change installation
development and support time.

SCHEMA CHANGE MANAGEMENT -- Roundtable manages changes to schema objects
including tables, fields, indexes and triggers, as easily as it manages
source files. No other SCM tool makes schema object versioning as easy and
accurate as Roundtable.

CHANGE IMPACT ANALYSIS -- This feature allows developers to examine the
impact a given change will have on other parts of the system. By quickly
identifying which parts of the application are affected, developers can be
sure to completely recompile, retest and the affected areas for improved
quality and user satisfaction.

PROBLEM TRACKING/TASK MANAGEMENT -- Roundtable's problem tracking and task
management functions allow managers to define tasks, assign them to
members of the development team and track their status. Roundtable's task
orientation helps ensure that all parts of the change process are
documented and completed before delivering changes to customers.

CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT REPOSITORY -- Roundtable stores all component versions,
component cross-reference information, project activity data, and
developer access privileges in a PROGRESS RDBMS-based repository.

The Roundtable repository offers superior security, control and management
of application development and deployment data. The multi-user Roundtable
repository is scalable and can run on any PROGRESS-supported PC or UNIX
platform.
