IBM SELECTS PLS TO SEARCH CONTENT HOSTED BY IBM INFOMARKET SERVICE

Falls Church, Virginia, May 20, 1996 . . . IBM announced today its
selection of Personal Library Software Inc. (PLS) as the search engine for
information being hosted by its new Internet-based service, IBM
infoMarket. IBM infoMarket is an innovative online marketplace that lets
users find, with one search, information that may reside on many different
servers in various locations.

Many of today's publishers want to make their information available on the
Internet, but cannot, due to a lack of resources. To bring those
publishers into the world of Internet publishing IBM infoMarket can host
their databases; the IBM infoMarket service will use the PLS search engine
to store, index and retrieve all such information hosted on the IBM
infoMarket service.

"PLS is an excellent choice for us because of its reputation in the
marketplace, its ability to work with large amounts of data, and the
quality of its search results," said Jeff Crigler, vice president, IBM
infoMarket. "Content hosting will be made easier knowing that PLS will
scale with infoMarket as our usage and content hosting grow."

"The IBM infoMarket team has experience with all the major search engines,
so being selected by IBM infoMarket as the engine for its content hosting
is quite an honor," said Dr. Matthew Koll, President of PLS. "PLS and IBM
infoMarket share a vision of a unified marketplace in which people can
easily find whatever they're looking for. We're excited by the
opportunities IBM infoMarket provides for both publishers and information
consumers."

IBM infoMarket and PLS also have entered into a marketing relationship
where PLS will work with its publishing customers to help make their
information available via the IBM infoMarket service. PLS has developed an
interface that will allow any organization using the PLS web search
server, PL Web, to sell its content on the Internet through the IBM
infoMarket service.

Personal Library Software is a leading supplier of information retrieval
software for use on the Web, online services and CD-ROM. The PLS family of
products, introduced in 1983, is used by several thousand organizations
and several million individuals in electronic publishing as well as in
work group and enterprise applications. PLS technology is at the core of
products and services from leading information companies, including
America Online, Prodigy, Dow Jones, DataTimes and Knight-Ridder. PLS can
be reached at its headquarters at 2400 Research Blvd. Rockville, MD 20850,
301-990-1155. PLS can also be reached via the Internet at

The IBM infoMarket service is creating the first secure environment for
intellectual property owners to reach a worldwide audience of millions
over the Internet. This new service will provide digital publishers with
the incentive to create and distribute their content electronically.
Additionally, the IBM infoMarket service will supply the necessary tools
to provide these content owners with maximum control over the presentation
of their information to customers. For additional information please see
