Microsoft and PictureTel Development Relationship Yields First Product from
Microsoft

MICROSOFT NETMEETING CONFERENCING SOFTWARE PROVIDES EASY VOICE AND DATA
INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS

REDMOND, Wash. and DANVERS, Mass. -- May 28, 1996 -- Microsoft Corp. today
announced that its NetMeeting communications and collaboration software,
in conjunction with the Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 beta
software, is available today worldwide to download via the Internet.
NetMeeting is the Internet's first real-time communications client that
includes support for international conferencing standards, and provides
true multi-user application sharing and data-conferencing capabilities.
NetMeeting is Microsoft's first product based upon the same PictureTel
Corporation core technology behind the award-winning PictureTel LiveShare
Plus data-conferencing software.

Microsoft and PictureTel forged a development relationship for data
conferencing in 1995. As part of that partnership the final version of
NetMeeting will be fully interoperable with all PictureTel
data-conferencing products. Those products include LiveShare Plus
data-conferencing software for desktop and group videoconferencing, and
the PictureTel Live100 and Live50 desktop videoconferencing systems, all
of which operate under Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

NetMeeting's whiteboard, chat, file transfer and shared clipboard features
enable groups of people to conduct meetings, share information and jointly
annotate diagrams, text and comments in a shared workspace.

NetMeeting supports international standards, enabling two or more people to
participate in real-time interactive conferences, even when separated by
continents.

"Until now, data conferencing has been a fringe application in the PC
marketplace," said Dom LaCava, vice president of PictureTel's Enterprise
Systems Group. "Microsoft is in the best position to make data
conferencing a mainstream application worldwide. We are pleased that this
relationship will yield a product that is fully interoperable with
PictureTel technology."

John Ludwig, vice president of the Internet platform and tools division at
Microsoft, says working with PictureTel has been beneficial.

"Our relationship with PictureTel has helped us develop NetMeeting, a
product that will enable people to share all types of information over the
Internet," said Ludwig. "We look forward to continuing to work with
PictureTel to drive standards-based data conferencing worldwide."
