ONTRACK DATA RECOVERY WINS HAROLD H. SHORT, JR INNOVATION IN SERVICE AWARD

Recognizes Ontrack 's Marketing and Business Alliance Program for its
innovative service delivery approach

Boston, MA (May 16, 1996) -- Ontrack Data Recovery, Inc., the world's
leading data recovery service provider, today announced that its Marketing
and Business Alliance (MBA) Program has been awarded the 1996 Service News
Harold H. Short, Jr. Innovation in Service Award. Alison Harris, Service
News Editor and Chairperson of Systems Support Expo, presented Ontrack
with the award at a ceremony held this morning at Systems Support Expo in
Boston. The award recognizes Ontrack for its leadership role in the
computer service industry.

Ontrack's MBA Program, first established in June, 1995, offers computer
service and repair technicians, VARs, corporate resellers, consultants,
and disaster recovery service providers the opportunity to expand their
own data recovery service capabilities by partnering with Ontrack. These
service providers see an unfulfilled user need, and find that the merging
of their local service capabilities with Ontrack's technology is a viable
solution for satisfying increased user demand for data recovery solutions.

Ontrack provides its MBA partners with the comprehensive sales, training
and support necessary to help them better serve the data recovery
requirements of their customers. By localizing support and giving users
the ability to work with organizations with whom they have an established
relationship, Ontrack and its partners are able to provide the highest
quality support possible.

"Ontrack is honored to accept the computer service industry's most
prestigious award," said Marshall Warwaruk, Vice President of Business
Development. "With approximately 100 service professionals now
participating in the MBA program, we are extremely pleased with the
tremendous response we have received. Later this quarter we will further
enhance the program by launching an aggressive recruitment campaign for
additional partners."

The Innovation in Service Award was named for Harold H. Short, Jr., the
founder of Service News. While many awards honor computer hardware and
software, this award was created to recognize the innovation and effort
involved in keeping those systems up and running. Past winners include
such companies as IBM, Novell, and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Ontrack Data Recovery specializes in recovering lost or corrupted data from
any hard drive or alternative storage device that has fallen victim to a
hardware or system malfunction, human error, computer virus, natural
disaster, or computer crime. Understanding that time is critical, Ontrack
offers 24-hour, weekend, on-site, and priority service to help users avoid
the expense of an added downtime. Ontrack is headquartered at 6321 Bury
Drive, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55346, and can be reached by phone at
