NETSCAPE UNVEILS NEW VERSIONS OF COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS FOR ENHANCED
INTEGRATION WITH CORPORATE DATABASES

TEAMS WITH EDS AND ANDERSON CONSULTING TO MAKE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION
EASY

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 13, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation
today announced new versions of its Netscape Commercial Applications,
market-leading integrated software solutions for online commerce. The new
products -- Netscape Publishing System 1.5, Netscape Merchant System 1.5
and Netscape Community System 1.5 -- feature enhanced support for
cross-platform, cross-database integration with legacy systems and data.
With advanced billing, publishing and merchandising features, Netscape
Commercial Applications make it easy for companies to leverage existing
corporate databases to build robust, new online businesses.

To make purchase and installation of the new products easy for enterprise
customers, Netscape is teaming with Andersen Consulting and Electronic
Data Systems (EDS) as part of the Netscape Commercial Applications Partner
Program (NCAPP). NCAPP members are systems integrators and value-added
resellers trained directly by Netscape who have the expertise to deliver
full-scale solutions for Internet businesses supporting thousands of users
and millions of transactions each month.

"With Netscape Commercial Applications, Netscape has more than a year of
experience in shipping the high-end software solutions that are running
hundreds of major commercial customer sites on the Internet today," said
Marc Andreessen, senior vice president of technology at Netscape.

"Based on that experience with customers such as Discovery Online and
Worldview, Netscape designed the 1.5 versions to include compelling new
features and strong support for legacy databases and systems," Andreessen
added.

"Innovative companies around the world are recognizing online commerce as
the low-cost distribution channel of the future," said Steven Johnson,
worldwide managing partner of retail and electronic commerce at Andersen
Consulting. "Netscape continues to be a leader in enabling the development
of this channel with the announcement of the new 1.5 versions of its
Netscape Commercial Applications."

"As more and more companies establish their presence on the World Wide Web,
it is increasingly important to have robust, industrial-strength solutions
that deliver real value, both to the customer and to the organization,"
said W.R. "Butch" Winters, president of EDS' Internet & New Media
division. "The new 1.5 versions of Netscape's Commercial Applications
offer companies greater opportunities to take advantage of their legacy
systems, to create the kinds of Web-enabled applications that can deliver
measurable value to their customers."

Netscape Commercial Applications are industrial strength, turnkey solutions
that provide high-volume transaction processing, real-time data
management, easy-to-use interfaces and encrypted communications for
creating sophisticated online services and large-scale business on the
Internet. The products feature extensive open Application Programming
Interfaces (APIs) to enable easy integration of member information with
legacy databases and systems.

Netscape Publishing System is a flexible, integrated high-end software
solution for content providers who want to create full-scale online
information services. Its features include support for user registration
and tracking, text search and user access control. In addition, Netscape
Publishing System 1.5 adds personalized content delivery, document
conversion from many standard word processing formats into HTML, and
support for automatic conversion of news wire feeds. Netscape Publishing
System 1.5 also supports a wide range of billing options including
corporate accounts, per-access payments, subscriptions, fee based services
and premium services.

Netscape Merchant System enables retailers or merchants to create and
manage virtual storefronts or malls online. The system provides shoppers
with a user-friendly interface that lets them browse or make queries to
view specific types of products available in the marketplace. Netscape
Merchant System includes support for customized product display, a
shopping basket and credit card processing. In addition, Netscape Merchant
System 1.5 adds support for product related searching, dynamic
merchandising, coupons and discounts, sales tax calculation by county in
the USA, audit reports, shipping and encrypted order delivery.

Netscape Community System gives organizations the ability to create and
foster virtual communities based on shared interests. It supports popular
communications activities such as public and private bulletin boards,
real-time chat services and electronic mail. Features include user
registration, text search and billing. The new Netscape Community System
1.5 includes a chat server, bulletin board server, and mail server
software that are scalable onto multiple servers for increased audience
capacity. The new product also adds Netscape Chat 2.0 client software for
Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating environments.

Content providers, for example, can use Netscape Community System in
conjunction with Netscape Publishing System to offer readers access to
bulletin boards and chat forums around common topics of interest. All
three Commercial Applications share back-end services for common
administration and management of transactions, payment processing and user
databases. Together, the products provide a seamlessly integrated online
commerce environment.

Worldview Systems Corporation and SABRE Interactive deployed all three
Netscape Commercial Applications in creating Travelocity, its
next-generation electronic travel service located on the Internet at
www.travelocity.com. Travelocity integrates functionality from Netscape
Publishing System, Netscape Community System and Netscape Merchant System
with American Airlines legacy SABRE airline ticketing and reservation
system.

"Our concept was to create a travel service that would allow users direct
access to time sensitive travel destination and supplier information,"
said B.D. Goel, vice president of product development at San
Francisco-based Worldview Systems Corporation. "Netscape was a resource we
could trust and saved us from having to think through basic online
commerce issues like scalability and encryption. By using the Netscape
Commercial Applications, we reduced our work by many man years. We made
the decision to use Netscape in September of 1995 and our site went live
on March 12, 1996."

Netscape plans to deliver Netscape Publishing System 1.5, Netscape Merchant
System 1.5 and Netscape Community System 1.5 for major UNIX platforms
beginning in the third quarter of 1996.
