NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES "GOLD RUSH" CONTEST WINNERS

US $20,000 AWARDED TO 12 CONTEST PARTICIPANTS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 7, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation
(NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced the winners of the Netscape "Gold Rush," a
contest that began in January 1996 in conjunction with the public
availability of the 2.0 beta version of Netscape Navigator Gold. According
to the contest rules, users of various Internet skill levels who created a
Web page using Netscape Navigator Gold and then entered the page for
judging in one of five contest categories could win cash prizes from
Netscape. Netscape awarded a grand total of US$20,000 to 12 Netscape Gold
Rush contest winners and awarded Netscape merchandise to 50 additional
participants.

Each Netscape Gold Rush contest entrant created his or her own Web page
using Netscape Navigator Gold and then entered the page in one of five
categories: Company/Department, Product/Service, Company/Small Business,
Special Interest Group/Club and Personal/Family. The contest recognized
two types of entries per category: Eureka, for a page created using
Netscape Navigator Gold exclusively; and Klondike, for a page first
created with Netscape Navigator Gold, then enhanced with other tools.

In the Netscape Gold Rush contest, Netscape awarded two grand prize winners
US$5,000 and ten category winners US$1,000 for what Netscape judged were
the best entrants in various categories. The first grand prize winner is
Gavin Cheng from Japan, who won for his Eureka entry called "Exposure."
The Exposure Web page used a dramatic style and incorporated Java and
graphics to emphasize its message. The second grand prize winner is Walter
Costinak from Canada, who won the Klondike grand prize for his "2 Design &
Communication" page. The design was chosen for its incorporation of
animation, use of Java and graphics, its frame layout and overall
continuity.

"I've tried a number of WYSIWYG HTML editor applications in the past but
none were as easy to learn and use as Netscape Navigator Gold," said Gavin
Cheng, Netscape Gold Rush grand prize winner. "The most outstanding
feature in Navigator Gold is the ability to do one-button publishing. This
feature allowed me to create pages locally and update them quickly to my
server with the touch of a button. I especially like how Netscape
Navigator Gold seamlessly integrates all of the capabilities of Netscape
Navigator. This enabled me to browse the Web for links and images, switch
into edit mode at a click of a button and easily create my Web pages."

In addition to these two grand prize winners, ten entries were awarded
US$1,000 and 50 entries were selected in the honorable mention category
and will receive Netscape merchandise from the Netscape General Store. A
complete list of Netscape Gold Rush Contest winners can be found on the
Netscape Internet site at:

combines the features of the recently introduced Netscape Navigator 3.0
with easy-to-use Internet and intranet publishing capabilities, enabling
WYSIWYG creation of Web documents that can include Live Objects such as
JavaScript, audio or video.
