NETSCAPE UNVEILS NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR GOLD 3.0 FOR INTERNET AND INTRANET
PUBLISHING

ONE-BUTTON PUBLISHING ALLOWS ENTERPRISE USERS TO TRANSFER DOCUMENTS TO
NETSCAPE WEB SERVERS AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 7, 1996) -- Netscape Communications Corporation
(NASDAQ: NSCP) today unveiled Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0, Netscape's
premium client software. Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 combines the features
of the recently introduced Netscape Navigator 3.0 with easy-to-use
Internet and intranet publishing capabilities, enabling WYSIWYG creation
of Web documents that can include Live Objects such as JavaScript, audio
or video. A public beta version of Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 can be
downloaded immediately free of charge from the Netscape Internet site.

Netscape Navigator Gold enables users on corporate intranets and the
Internet to easily create interactive documents based on HTML (HyperText
Markup Language). The documents can be posted to a company's internal Web
or news server, sent as electronic mail or posted on the Internet.
Netscape Navigator Gold includes security capabilities that permit
corporate administrators to create user names and password authentication
for end users to prevent them from editing or publishing documents to a
Web site without proper authorization.

"Corporations are increasingly turning to standards-based Internet
technologies to enable their users to easily share documents, and many of
our Fortune 500 customers use Netscape Navigator Gold to create and access
documents on their Intranets," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of
marketing at Netscape. "In addition, Internet access providers are
enabling their customers to use Netscape Navigator Gold to create and
publish their own Web pages."

Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 incorporates the sophisticated features of
Netscape Navigator 3.0, including Web navigation, interactive electronic
mail, threaded discussion groups, corporate administration through the
Netscape Administration Kit, enhanced Secure Sockets Layer 3.0 (SSL)
encryption, support for digital certificates, real- time collaboration
capabilities and an open Java programming language implementation.

In addition, Netscape Navigator Gold includes a host of Internet publishing
capabilities including:

* An easy-to-use editing environment, allowing "what you see is what you
get" (WYSIWYG) results -- including the creation and editing of tables on
a Web page.

* One-button publishing, allowing users to transfer onto the Internet or
intranet at the touch of a button the files, links and images they use to
create a web page, where authorized by their network administrator or
Internet Service Provider (ISP).

* Netscape Page Starter Site, providing users point and click access to a
wealth of resources including instructions, information and tools for
creating their own Web pages in Netscape Navigator Gold and publishing
them through ISP hosting services.

* Netscape Gold Rush Tool Chest, a collection of editable home page
templates, background color schemes and graphical images, as well as more
advanced tools such as Java applets and JavaScript scripts to make user
pages come alive.

* Netscape Page Wizard, an automated wizard that steps users quickly and
easily through the process of creating their own home pages using HTML
forms.

Netscape FastTrack Server and Netscape Enterprise Server software both
support the one-button publishing feature in Netscape Navigator Gold,
making it easy for individuals within an enterprise to create and publish
documents or manage a web site on the Internet or intranet. In addition,
Netscape Enterprise Server provides full document revision control
capabilities, enabling automatic locking of user preferences, revision
rollbacks and check-in and check-out capabilities.

"Netscape Navigator Gold allows users to easily publish online documents
including presentations, white papers, product technical specifications,
sales and marketing materials, and more," added Homer. "With Netscape
Navigator Gold and our high-performance, feature-rich Web servers,
enterprise customers have an ideal solution for creating and publishing
documents on intranets and the Internet."

A corporate human resources department, for example, may use Netscape
Navigator Gold to create information for their employees and publish it to
a Netscape server on the company's intranet. These documents could include
medical benefits forms, change of address forms, a holiday calendar,
internal policies and procedures, retirement benefits or company surveys.
The corporate human resources department may also post employment
opportunities on the company's Internet site for external access, allowing
interested applicants to submit resumes online.

The public beta version of Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0 is available
immediately for Windows 95, Windows NT and Macintosh operating
environments. Windows 3.1 and popular UNIX platforms are expected to be
available by June. The beta software will expire and users should purchase
supported, licensed copies from Netscape or a Netscape authorized
reseller. The final version is scheduled for release in the second
quarter. Pricing from Netscape is expected to start at US$79.00, which
includes a limited warranty and 90-day customer support. Customers who
purchased Netscape Navigator and a subscription can upgrade to Netscape
Navigator Gold 3.0 with a subscription for US$29.00. Other upgrade options
are available. Volume discounts are available for multiple user licenses.
