HP BROADBAND INTERNET DELIVERY SYSTEM TO USE NETSCAPE SERVER SOFTWARE TO
PROVIDE WEB ACCESS TO INTERNET SERVICE SUBSCRIBERS

LOS ANGELES (April 29, 1996) -- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced
plans to offer Netscape Communications Corporation Server software as part
of the HP Broadband Internet Delivery System. The announcement was made
here at the National Cable Television Association Convention, which is
being held from April 29 to May 1. Cable operators and telcos that offer
Internet access to home PCs through HP's broadband system can deploy
Netscape server software on their HP delivery platform to provide
subscribers with access to the World Wide Web.

The addition of Netscape Server software gives HP's broadband Internet
solution the security features needed for encrypted electronic commerce
and communications. Flexible user authorization allows service providers
to control access to individual files or directories using a user name and
password, domain name, host name, IP address or named groups. Among the
benefits provided by these features are server authentication using a
digital signature, data encryption for private client-server
communications, and data integrity to verify the contents of an electronic
transmission.

"Netscape is excited about working with HP to bring broadband Internet
access to the home," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing
for Netscape. "We feel our server software is a great fit with HP's
delivery platform, offering customers a leading-edge Internet-access
engine in conjunction with an HP system that has helped pioneer broadband
data delivery to the home."

"Netscape's participation will add great value to the HP Broadband Internet
Delivery System," said Gail E. Hamilton, general manager of HP's Telecom
Platform Division. "Netscape is the leader in open Internet software. Now,
HP will be able to provide this technology to cable operators and telcos
that want to offer their customers the most powerful broadband data
solution possible."

Netscape servers are high-performance server software products for
conducting encrypted electronic commerce and communications on the
Internet and other TCP/IP-based networks. Netscape Servers allow the
publication of hypermedia documents using the HyperText Markup Language
and deliver them over the Internet and other TCP/IP networks using the
HyperText Transport Protocol. To protect user data, Netscape Servers
provide advanced security features such as server authentication, data
encryption, data integrity and user authorization.

The complete end-to-end HP solution is unlike any currently available. HP
offers superior content- and network-management capability, performance,
security features and industry-standards compliance. In addition, the HP
Broadband Internet Delivery Solution is compatible with most Internet
access technologies, including hybrid fiber-coax, FTTC and wireless.

The HP Broadband Internet Delivery System offers other features that make
it ideal for cable operators and telephone companies that want to provide
broadband services to their customers. Its ultra-high-speed performance
exceeds that of virtually any delivery platform currently available,
including T1 lines. Such performance is critical as users access graphics,
video and multimedia applications over the Internet. Such applications
require many times the bandwidth of basic data and voice. The HP solution
also offers service providers massive scalability - a single HP system can
serve more than 100,000 users.
